- 2021 was yet another tough year of losses for far too many iconic rock stars that we grew up listening too. The following 70's & 80's Rock Star celebrities passed away in the Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Classic Rock genre and even a couple of pop rockers. Here is my annual tribute for some of the brightest stars who died in 2021 in chronological order. Along side each name, I've also listed what band or bands they were known for, how old they were and the cause of death if it was at the time the video was made.
Tim Bogert (76) VANILLA FUDGE, CACTUS, BOGERT-BECK & APPICE
Michael Stanley (72) MICHAEL STANLEY BAND
Alan Cartwright (75) PROCOL HARUM

Amen brother.
Let's hope he got saved then with his last breath
In a perfect world my friend! Was goin with him but we stopped for a sixer n he just took off!

I am an old man who remembers all these musicians when they were young. Looking like Keith Richards and me will be the last to go from our music era. Never thought I'd live past 30 at one time. God Bless everyone!

Being an 80s rocker girl, I was saddened by quite a few of these. But none more than Jeff Labar.
Jeff was always my favorite in Cinderella. I met him quite a few times over the years and he was always a sweetheart. But a few years ago I did the Monsters of Rock cruise 4 years in a row and Jeff was on it. I spent a lot of time with him in those 4 years. He was so sweet and kind. And I still never got over the fact one of my biggest crushes knew my name and wanted to spend time with me. I still have my memory of the last time I saw him. The morning of the cruise he was on the deck and I sat down and we talked. He gave me a huge hug and told me he would see me the next year. I never went back on the cruise. But I will always have those memories.
Thanks for sharing that personal comment, Susan 🤘
Thank you for sharing that. Cinderella is my favorite band. I'm so happy that you got to make some totally awesome memories!!!
@@veronicafierro2727 ....Hellas truly a sweetheart 💖

Oh my God she lucky girl. I'm an 80s rocker girl too. So glad that you got to do all that and meet him he was awesome.
Great tribute. Many people don’t realize what an impact music has on our lives. Their work is part of “us” and lives on in us and echos on forever.
I couldn't have said it better, Juan, thanks for sharing 🤘

Sad to see a lot of musicians we grew up with falling out. It sucks getting old, but it beats the alternative.
they grew old, how many of you wont? the youth is infatuated with themselves.
Thanks for sharing, Aaron, Happy New Year my friend 🤘
Especially JeffLabar
I guess Canadian musicians don't count.

Seeing these old time rockers who lived through the sex, drugs, and rock and roll era and seeing they made it to their late 70's and 80's is a miracle in and of itself.
So true, thanks for sharing NJCF 🤘
Exactly what I was thinking.
Me being 52, now looking back with so many memories with the music from those that are gone. Heaven has to be rocking right now.
We've lost a lot of musicians for sure, Danny 🤘
I gotta add my friend Floyd Darling to the list. He was a crazy talented Jazz pianist who played with a number of groups all over Texas, especially in the Dallas area. He past away just after Christmas. You will be greatly missed Floyd! Thank you for all the amazing stories and great life advice. Rest in Peace my friend, you've earned it.
Thanks for sharing, RIP Floyd 🤘
There aren't a lot of great violin solos in rock. For sheer feels Robby Steinhardt's solo for "Dust in the Wind" is unbeatable. RIP dude.
Robby was one of a kind for sure 🤘
You are correct about Robby Steinhardt. I was only able to see Kansas once back in the early 2000's, and it was a fantastic show. Kansas was the first American Prog Rock band to carry that banner with dignity which was shown in the amazing music they wrote and performed. R.I.P.(rock in peace Robby).
I seen Kansas 3 times in Phoenix AZ during the mid 70's to the early 80s I still have the ticket stubs and was just looking at them after getting out of the hospital a couple days ago after breaking my neck in 2 different places from a car accident that wasn't my fault a few days before Christmas, I'm old now almost 62 and pretty sure I won't live much longer I can barely pick up a piece of paper it's almost over for me like these guys, I would've liked to live longer but I don't think so.
@@stevestarr5968 Peter Gabriel has a great song with Kate Bush called "Don't Give Up". The words of Rush in the song Freewill. Excellent
When Joey Jordison died, it felt like my heart dropped to the ground. It really hurts to hear the news that Joey died😢
They're dropping like flies at the moment, same with some really iconic elderly actors and actresses. RIP, all of you.
And we can only imagine why those died of heart failure.

There was an article I read last year on essentially how Rock was gonna be devastated in the next decade by the passing of its major stars. It had everybody who is anybody with their ages next to their names. Face it, we are all getting older, but it is a sad future for our music for sure. Thank you for paying tribute to those who have entertained us over the years.
Thanks for sharing, I haven't seen the article but I can only imagine that in the next 10 years or so, probably all of the bands that I grew up listening to will be gone, that's a sad though 🤘
@@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock but their music lives on! It’s hard though…
I especially like Charlie Watts. What a gentleman he was and a great rock/jazz drummer with his unique ´no nonsense´ style!
That he was, very professional in his approach and delivery 🤘
Agreed. Charlie did best what many drummers don’t-he laid down the timing, rhythm, and backbone…without flash, pomp, or circumstance…of every Stones song. Doesn’t get more important than that! Well said, Mr. Sparklespring!
Mike Howe - one of my favourite metal vocalists of all time. So sad that he decided to take his own life.
RIP Mike - now at peace.
Thanks, Steve, that really is sad, he was so young 🤘
I was just listening to some old Metal Church a few days ago, then I was watching this and my mouth dropped to the floor. I had no idea! This is very sad….

Tim Bogert was a bass and vocal instructor at the Musician's Institute in Hollywood when I attended in 1990/91. He was a super nice person and had me projecting high notes after just one vocal lesson. I know he will be missed by a lot of graduates.
He was there when I was there in 1985. I got to jam with him and paul Gilbert on the mi stage. So cool
Respect...My condolences.
EM, thanks for sharing your comment 🤘
@@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock no problem. It was a great year of being there. I think Paul Gilbert was a year younger than me, and I believe he might have been an instructor there.
I attended PIT in '91-'92. In my first live playing workshop, I came in off-time on Ozzy's "I Don't Know". Tim stopped the song and berated me in front of the whole room. He actually asked me if I had ever played the drums before. Pretty humiliating, but we did start the song over and I got through it. I avoided him for the rest of the year.
Props to these musicians and all the creative energy and joy they shared with us. They made the world a better place.

Why put God into anyconversation? These people died last year. Do you consider metal music people unworthy of an afterlife? Self righteous people. How silly religions are used for control of/for people. Do all the work and struggle fix yourself. Suffer and limit yourself to be what someone says you have to be. Oh BUT ,

I still just think of these musician's as young men and then you see how old they were when they passed. We all thought we were all going to be forever young. Man I thought I was old when I got to 30 now I am pushing 70. As Cher said If I could turn back time.
Same here, I'm pushing 59 but I feel like maybe 30 or so. Health is Wealth, never more true than after 50 🤘
Charlie Watts' death was huuuuuge, that was so surreal to hear. Being a founding member of the Stones, it makes me realise how close we are to having no one from that era of music anymore
So true, can't imagine what it will look like 10 years from now, that will be sad for sure 🤘
Probably only Keith and Ozzy left.
The stone might as well quit with out charlie and stu and brian jones there is no heart soul or mind of the stones anymore
That's true. And most, I say most, of the music coming out these days days is crap. I can't hardly name a rock star under 50, maybe Miles Kennedy, if he hasn't passed 50 yet .
You never know if the musicians you love are gonna die this year.

Sadly for the rest of the decade there are going to be some a lot more big names leaving us. Don't want to name names but think of the great artists and bands from the late 60's through to the 70's and many of these artists will be getting well into the 80's approaching their 90's. Wish they all could live to 100,...now who will be the first big name to turn 100? Keith Richards?
We all knew that this day would come when we say good bye to all the musicians we grew up listening too. All i can say is Thank you for all the good times and the concerts that we got to go too May they all Rest in a Rock n Roll Heaven.

My God this song is tearing and ripping apart my heart strings. I never knew these singers / musicians as in personally or just didn't listen to them but this song makes me feel like I knew them all. Rest in peace.
