Hello Doug! In these Chinese fountain pens nothing is by chance. Exactly we are in the year of the "green wood dragon" which only occurs every 60 years. For this reason, Hongdian used wood and placed a green zircon, so that there are all these 3 elements: the dragon, the wood, the green. As I had already written in Chris's review, the line on the side opposite the dragon's head is necessary both to close the fountain pen with the dragon looking at the green stone (dragon guardian of knowledge) and to keep the fountain pen still with the dragon at the top (the dragon rules over everything). Grant me, before treating a nib as you have done, it must be analyzed under a microscope, at least with 800X magnification. The micromesh must not be below 10000, with very gradual applications, otherwise you will alter the engineering of the nib tip. Thanks for another interesting review!

Unfortunately the cap did split on my copy of the pen. Disappointed to say the least. I bought mine on Amazon and requested a refund and was willing to send the pen back. The crack is so wide I can see the cap liner through it. I did get a refund and the vendor did not want the pen back. So it sits on display in my bookcase with the crack hidden from view. As a display piece it is a beautiful pen. Is sits next to my D5 which works very nicely.
Will I use it? Probably not.
I did order the A24 as a replacement. It should not suffer the same fate as the N24.
I wonder if I can swap feeds with a Jinhao 100? I would like to try the "ebonite" feed.
    Great review, Doug.

Ah, the 12-string gets me everytime. Happy Chinese New Year! The attention to detail in your videos, cut out cartoon and cinema scenes and your voice pacing is just excellent. I am trying to figure out why it's so enjoyable to watch your videos and I think it's “everything” you do. I am not interested in this pen but I look forward to your narration, comedy and astute observations.

I got a dragon pen from Jinhao couple of years ago, it is a weapon. With cap on, little baton with enough stopping power; cap off, a fatal SAS dagger.

Looks good in my wall display case though. I was very new to the fountain pen world so didnt realise how heavy a pen could be.

Pen looked good, seeing it in another review I was worried about the crack in the cap that the other guy saw. The ink is one of my favourites, such a warm brown. It was one of the first bottles of ink that I bought because I have a lot of brown pens. I think I will get one, I am feeling good about the Year of the Dragon. Thanks for the review. Happy Chinese New Year. 祝您身体健康年年有余

I love your videos, I tried to not mention the word "wanker" as I watched, but you had to make a Wancher cameo. I love the reasearch and work you put in and your reviews of Chinese companies.

Another nice review, Doug- fair and balanced. Though not Chinese, my wife is of the year of the dragon and is a little curious about a themed pen, so your review is timely.

Almost lost my marbles I had been checking for penbbs for the past couple of weeks waiting on a Dragon pen, thought I missed the boat. Whew . . . Again another great video. :D

Nice guitar work! Interesting review, as usual. And the only question I had was whether or not the red N24 dragon top would fit on the N24 you demonstrated. But at that price I probably won't buy one, much less two of these nice-looking Year of the Dragon pens!

@3:50 I'd be interested in knowing if the parts between the N24 and A24 are relatively interchangeable such that the dragon carved barrel/body of the N24 could substitute in place of the plain one for the A24 yielding a ridiculous double dragon pen. Nice video!

    Good video!
The model looks very pretty, very ornamental, but the truth is that I don't find it comfortable to use, both because of its weight and because of the shape of the body of the pen, which over time would end up tiring and hurting the hand. I really like the combination of materials and colors, the wood gives it a unique touch. I like it a lot but I don't see it as something usable, rather ornamental. Of course, I find it much more beautiful and admirable than most of the commemorative pens from Montblamc. Saludos desde Argentina

Of course this would cost $/CA$/£ 40,000 if it were a Japanese fountain pen. Hurrah for our Chinese comrades for making things marginally more affordable. (thank you for ANOTHER entertaining and informative video of this delightful arm curl weights ... er ... fountain pen!)

Chris Rapsiak did a review of the Yr of the Rabbit Pen BBS. It was so wonderful he didn't even put it on any of his crabs nor fanciful creatures. Just a clue as to his opinion? Or not? Anyhow, thanks for the Led Zep, and I love it when you hate a pen. Not too pleased with autocorrect, however. Thanks!

When we consider what Hongdian accomplished with their Qin Dynasty series, I'm surprised to see such an offering for Year of the Dragon -- a well balanced pen to show off more than to write with. Sorry about the nib. Hope it was anomalous. Thanks for a fine review!

I think those ‘hand polished’ and long knife nibs options are exclusive to 365Days, Doug. I looked at the N24 at other AliX vendors and didn’t find another offering of nonstock nibs. And I have two Majohn 138s from 365Days (arriving today!), one with a hand polished EF and the other with a long knife F, so this seems to be a thing they are doing-365Days even offered the new tiny Wancai with a long knife option.
I’m curious though, since the N24 has an exclusive nib, if they substitute a different long knife/hand ground nib and just include the dragon nib in the package.
Very fair review of a pen that is something of a love it/hate it thing!

How do you like the 138? I have one coming and will find out what the hand polished M is all about. The 138 I have coming has the black cap. The all silver model looked a bit much for me.

Line up the line on the barrel with the clip and then the barrel will screw on in the correct alignment. Or place the dragon face down; same thing, however you want to think of it.

on the barrel, 甲辰年 = 1904、1964、2024, 2084 and so on each interval of 60 years. If Hongdian looked after the mold well, the same design will again be put on sale in 2084. If anyone read this comment in 2084, click like.

Not a bad looking pen but I think I've been steered away from this. It's enough to deal with wood issues on bass guitars, don't need to be looking after my pens as well. I am most appreciative.

A split in a bass might give you splinters or blisters, but it won't ooze ink all over the inside of your hand-embroidered Nudie stage outfit.
