Speaking of Parker, at the Amsterdam Pelikan Hub yesterday (my first Hub night!) someone had a selection of old Parkers and I said, hey, that's a Vacumatic! He asked me how I knew and I said by watching your channel. Three people chimed in that they also watched you.
Hey Doug, I have turned into a capless junkie this year. My first gold nib was a Pilot VP purchase earlier in the year. After futzing with Majohn A1s and 2s the Pilot medium nib was magical. My Jinhau 10 arrive, F in red. I can’t seem to put it down the nib is firm but super smooth. I am stunned at how nice it writes. A daily for sure. Thanks for the review. The red finish is also superb in colour and iridescence. D
That was an interesting & informative review Doug. I am a fan of retractable pens, but this one will be easy for me to pass it up since I have more than a few retractable pens. The pen you called the Midas Press pen I bought a version that was called the Writech Retractable. Despite the trapdoor opening to the side it definitely keeps the nib from drying out as mine has been a consistent solid performer any time I go to use it.
I’m waiting for my Jinhao 10. Hope it’s a good one! I’m not sure I’ll like how a retractable feels in my hand, so I thought I’d go cheap first before getting the Pilot.
Holy, an impressive collection of different retracables for one who doesn't use them regularly any longer. I'm saturated of retractables by owning the A1 (the leaker and the reason that I found your channel a few years ago) and the Pilot VP. Since a few months I'm very fond of EF and F nibs, kind of crazy because 2 years ago I only wrote with B, BB and stubs. Your review was so detailed, the idea of considering the interchangeability of the nib/converter units was brilliant and informative at the same time. The Lamy Dialog was in my focus for a long time, but the price always put me off. Great Review!
Hello Dough! Thanks for the great video! I assume you didn't have a Platinum Curidas at hand for the very useful comparison (a great pen btw, very smooth and reliable). Now, after watching your video, I'm gonna get a jinhao 10 🙂. Cheers.
Though also retired (well, mostly; I'm called in to help every now and again), I still find use for my Pilot VPs -- I have 2, one F and one M, different color bodies well, just because. Even retired, I always have one inked up, sitting on my desk for quick notes -- it's just so handy! I did try an A2 awhile back to see how it stacked up. It was fair to decent but I far prefer my VPs so the A2 sits in my gifting box.
Thank you very much for this review! I particularly enjoyed the funny parts, as I'm not that interested in retractable pens. Mòran taing for all the good laughs - and for one of my favourite music intros! 😊
The metal nib chassis might not swap but plastic converter may? The jinhao 10 converter gives no view of ink left without pulling it. Other than that I like my F blue one.
Terrific news about the smooth writing experience with this new Jinhao 10. Like you, I have more retractable pens than I need. I have also found replacement medium and architect nibs for them on AliExpress which have made my Majohn A1's a much better writing experience. I would consider a retractable pen that had a standard sized cartridge or converter. Until then, I will pass.
Jinhao nibs are really good out of the box. I don't know how they manage to make it that cheap. On the jinhao 10, it is poor man's VP. That is how I like my pens (due economical issues 😊) . I was waiting your opinion. As yiu mentioned, doodlebud had issue with it. Also, on the Lamy dialog cc, thst was my grail pen, if I had chance to spend that much of money, I would go with it. But after your description of it, I think I would pass.
I'm new to pens, but I liked how smooth the cheap Jinhaos I got so much I've been watching this channel a lot. The only pet peeve I've got with my pens is the big caps and the constant capping/uncapping for quick writing; I'm not used to that, yet I think. Would anyone say retractable pens in general tend to be problematic? Do they not seal well? If I were to not write with 'em for a day or two, would storing them in a ziploc bag prevent drying?
thank you for this interesting review. i have decimo and a2 and i am now in thought about jinhao 10. so this discovery how smooth the nib is drives me closer to the decision of getting the jinhao
Thanks for the review. Does the lack of indent in the clip affect the comfort of the grip? I have a couple A1s. With clip and without. One of my pen regrets is not buying the white A1 with clip when I could. They restock other options but not the white with silver clip.
Hi Doug, How would you compare the smoothness of the nib of Jinhao 10 with the Decimo. And also you mention a co. with 6000 fountain pen models. Couldn't find lamb2. Am I getting the spelling wrong?
Lanbitou is the brand name to search for. I'm not sure who I was talking about with 6000 models. It has to be either Jinhao or Hero (if you combine all of their sub-brands).
I like my A1 with the roll stop. Would the Jinhao 10 fit into the A1? Will it accept the available A1 empty cartridges as the CON-40 is not much of a converter? Nice review and comparison with all the models.
Try putting the Moonman nib in a Jinhao 10 again. I have one in mine right now and it works just fine. It's worth doing, because the Moonman EF seems to be finer than the Jinhao EF. (I don't remember if it's from a Moonman A1 or A2... if I recall, A1 and A2 are not identical.)
We have several of the pilot vanishing point pens. I love them but they all leak - no matter what we do. Does the Jinhao 10 leak? Do any of the others in this review not leak? The blue pen is indeed stunning!
I am with you, not liking this style but I do love Jinhao, especially as alternative to Pilot VP. Thank you. Love knowing the nib is smooth. And this is a good alternative for the Pilot
Of all the pens to duplicate why hasn't anyone duplicated the Decimo? The A1 was both too heavy and a bit too wide for comfort. But mostly too heavy. The A2 is fine although drier than I'd prefer but I can floss it and fix it.
I have no apparent FOMO about retractable fountain pens. Maybe if someone game me one, but I don’t seek them out. That is a pretty blue though! I think because I’m so drawn to the unique look of a traditional FP nib, unbridled and unashamed in all its glory, ready to meet the world of paper that waits before it, those have my vote.
Not for me. I regard retractables as little more than a gimmick. I avoid fine and extra fine nibs. If I bought one (which I wouldn’t) or somebody gave me one as a well-intentioned gift, I doubt that it would get much, if any use. Thanks for the review anyway, Doug, now I now know what to avoid … ALL of them!
As much as I enjoy your videos, you couldn't be more wrong about the the ability of changing the majohn, pilot, nahvalur pens. They are in fact all interchangeable. I have them all and the jin hao is the best of the copies of the vanishing point. I use the nahvalur with a pilot nib and laugh at the design ever time I use it.
Gorgeous blue! Amazingly good nib. Not at all innovative. How many more copies of the Pilot Capless/Vanishing Point do we need? It does seem like this market would get saturated pretty soon...
There are so many beautiful colors available in this pen, including the ombré blue (and a yellow/green) that Pilot recently introduced. I need a pen like this to carry around in my purse with me (I have to write down everything or I forget) and my Kaweco Sport is too chunky for the case my planner is in. This may be the solution! Particularly since the (really cool looking) A3 is over $40 US and the A2 and A1 are around $30 US, this is $20 US (all Amazon prices.) This planner is a little A6, so I have a 0.4 Energel in there right now cause I like fine gel pens…but oooh, Pilot makes a stub for this? That’s so cool! I may have to grab this one along with the 5 other pens I just bought in the past few days before the tariffs set in for us 😮 (among other things…….🫠) Or, for about $7 more, I could just get another Prera in a different color! And with the CI nib!
Mea Culpa: I said “Parker Vanishing Point” in the introduction! Of course, it is a Pilot not Parker!😂😂
Speaking of Parker, at the Amsterdam Pelikan Hub yesterday (my first Hub night!) someone had a selection of old Parkers and I said, hey, that's a Vacumatic! He asked me how I knew and I said by watching your channel. Three people chimed in that they also watched you.
@@willemgroenewegen5934 Awesome! Thanks for this. At our Hub last night, two or three people said HI and told me they met me on UA-cam!
[Insert forehead slap clip]
@@willemgroenewegen5934 I had three people at my HUB say the same thing!
The blue on that pen is honestly stunning, it's a very rich and saturated blue, looks pretty good for the price.
It is!
I saw a similar blue in the x750
This review reminded me to order a Pilot VP gold stub nib unit. Nicely done, Doug.
Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks Dean!
Got one of these in red a couple of weeks ago. I had no expectations when I got it but now it's my work pen. The nib is surprisingly nice.
The colour is stunning! 😍
I think so too!

Doug, around 2:30 you mention "Moonman Unit". Was that one of the offspring of the brilliant Frank Zappa?
LOL True! I wonder of Moon Unit Zappa knows!
I have been thinking of getting one! I have not seen a blue one before. It looks gorgeous!
The Jinhao 10 blows them all away
I’m waiting for my Jinhao 10. Hope it’s a good one! I’m not sure I’ll like how a retractable feels in my hand, so I thought I’d go cheap first before getting the Pilot.
I hope you love it!

Thank you so much, @FountainPenWorld-z4i!
Informative and useful as always. Retractable ones are intriguing. Have you tried the Nebula Premium Retractable one?
Not yet!
Nice! Thanks Doug. I just got a Hongdian M2 delivered 😊💗
Nice 👍

I mentioned in the video that I did not own a Curidas. One of my pen club colleagues has loaned me his with which to compare. I'll do a video soon.

Mòran taing for all the good laughs - and for one of my favourite music intros! 😊
Awesome!
Thanks for the overview. My (expensive) Lamy Dialog CC is basically useless, because it does not seal well. Hard starts after only 15 minutes or so.
Well, now I know that the Pilot VP nib fits in the Jinhao 10, but I didn't see you click it to see if it would work as an upgrade!
The metal nib chassis might not swap but plastic converter may? The jinhao 10 converter gives no view of ink left without pulling it. Other than that I like my F blue one.
Same as the Pilot converter.

Yes. A ziplock would seal them better.

I have a couple A1s. With clip and without. One of my pen regrets is not buying the white A1 with clip when I could. They restock other options but not the white with silver clip.
It all depends on your style of grip really. For my grip, the Jinhao is actually nicer than the Pilot.
Hi Doug, How would you compare the smoothness of the nib of Jinhao 10 with the Decimo. And also you mention a co. with 6000 fountain pen models. Couldn't find lamb2. Am I getting the spelling wrong?

I've only had it a short time but so far, no leaks.

My pleasure!
Hi Doug, is Jinhao 10's body made of metal or plastic? Can you please confirm.
My Majohn A2 plastic body cracked at the middle ring within a month.
It is enamel over brass.
Of all the pens to duplicate why hasn't anyone duplicated the Decimo?
The A1 was both too heavy and a bit too wide for comfort. But mostly too heavy.
The A2 is fine although drier than I'd prefer but I can floss it and fix it.
I doubt the market for a slimmer VP clone is worth the effort or they'd have done it by now.
I still have no problem with a pen cap! Clicky, glitzy gizmos are for the type A personalities!
LOL
I might get one just for giggles.
I have no apparent FOMO about retractable fountain pens. Maybe if someone game me one, but I don’t seek them out. That is a pretty blue though! I need lighter version of it, like majhon a2

Then my Jinhao 10 is a rogue, because the Majohn units will not fit. I showed that and how the Pilot unit DOES fit.
probably
Parker vp 😂
