Man I hope I see a cheaper price next time I run out. Mine is $50 a month. Just to maintain my lungs. $600 a year just to have functioning lungs. And still not even healthy lungs. Just okay enough to breathe normally for the like quarter of the year that I’m not dealing with a respiratory illness.
I remember back when I had insurance, my inhaler was generic and it was $10. And right after I got laid off the drug companies figured out a way to put it back into patent or whatever they call that So that it couldn't be generic and suddenly it was really expensive and on top of it I didn't have insurance anymore. And somehow the propellant has changed and it's not pushing it into my lungs as forcefully as it used to be. So thank you to the administration and could you get the hospitals to please post their prices. I mean they're supposed to do it anyway but they don't. I haven't been to the hospital since 2000. I'm afraid to go. I could be in debt for the rest of my natural life. I went one time in Massachusetts when I made less than $12,000 and it was covered to go to the ER. But then they sent me a bill from the hospital that was $300 for the 3 minutes that the doctor looked at me and said yep she's got asthma give her this drug. And I told the lady on the phone but it's supposed to be covered and they said oh doctor's fees aren't covered. And that was Massachusetts. Now I live in Florida. And I haven't had insurance in 15 years. If it wasn't for a friend I would probably be dead. Or in bed all the time In the tripod position like when I was a kid
I hope you're doing okay now and i'm glad you got some help. I don't think medicine should be a profit making institution. And I hope you continue to get the help you need. Bless you and I hope you're feeling well.
@@pamelajayeI just finished watching the US show shameless. It's about a poor family. The thing that really struck me was how they accepted the lack of medical care was a reality and blamed THEMSELVES for it. Eg "I've lost my job therefore I can't get treatment". In Australia we take it for granted you can walk into any public hospital and get treatment. If treatment was not available for some reason we'd never even think to blame ourselves. Maybe we're entitled but the system is good enough to allow us to expect treatment.
My son, at 4 years old had a massive asthma attack in Mexico, we didn’t know he had asthma before this… I took him to a Red Cross community medical center, because it was nearby. They treated him for hours… nebulizers, breathing treatments, steroids, and inhalers. I brought him back for 3 consecutive days… the total cost was $32 dollars! My kiddo was combative when I first got there. It took 4 people to hold him for a shot and to put a breathing mask over his blue face. By the time we were done they were all so loving, he would sit on their lap and cuddle in for the breathing treatment! Lovely people…. Great Doctors…
Oh my goodness. 4 years old? My daughter is 4 and I'm imagining her going through that and it kills me, I'm so sorry you had to experience that. But I'm so thankful you had a team that knew exactly what to do and treated you with the care and compassion y'all deserve.
I am a 75-year-old Canadian. Since I turned 65 I have never paid more than $4.11 for any prescription, an I take about a dozen per month. Of course, I have never paid for any doctor's visit, or tests. Once I got a $35.00 ambulance bill and I could have been reimbursed, but I couldn't bother.
I just went for an annual cardiologist "check up". This is new for me, it's my first one after discovering an issue. I figured it would be my normal $50 copay for a specialist... color me shocked when I got 2 separate bills totaling $275! When I called, they told me that though it was a general maintenance check up THEY insisted on, cardiologists don't fall under the normal $50 copay. Awesome.

My dad had emphysema. His inhaler was the same as my asthma one. The VA gave them to him at EVERY appointment. For me, with insurance, they were $75 EACH. My dad almost never used his. He single-handedly was keeping me, my husband, and my best friend in inhalers. It took until he had been gone a year before any of us had to buy one.
I have asthma the inhalers when I was first diagnosed was $20 ea, in 2 years they went up to $60, then I switched to Kaiser they are now $10-15. I remember I used to keep them past the expiration date to save money, or take a nap sucking on a eucalyptus cough drop. I'm voting for the guys that keep our meds low.
Oof. Living in the UK, I very nearly died at the age of ten due to an asthma attack. I wore a breathing mask for several days (still remember that smell). This was with my inhaler. Without it, I doubt that I would've made it to the hospital. Even $35 per month sounds insane for a drug that saves lives.
Let’s back that up. As a child my mom couldn’t afford to take me to the DR (asthma /allergy specialist) to get the prescription for the inhaler, let alone the inhaler. I spent hours miserable on the couch trying to relax my attacks away and endured home treatments that didn’t work. We NEED national healthcare!
In most countries you don't need a prescription for an albuterol question. They're safer than lots of OTC drugs, nonaddictive and essential for some people. The question is why they're a prescription drug here.
My 2.prescriptions and my part D prescription premium under the Biden/Harris allll went down in price. Saving me about $70 a month!!! It is emotional. They focused on us old folks first, but now they are expanding to everyone. Great you're putting the info out for others, you're a GOOD PERSON!

Let’s be clear on how this came about. The companies were busted for enforcing invalid patents and when they were exposed for patent fraud they had no choice but to lower prices. So good for the admin, but we need to go further and stop shady practices like this.
Good point. These corporations need to be held accountable. And if even a penny of taxpayer money went into any bit of the research that made their drug or treatment possible, there needs to be a totally separate process for selling it as in the corporations do NOT get a "patent" for it.
People who thought that the choice between Biden and Trump between two bad options either hasn’t been paying attention or thinks of politics only in terms of how it affects themselves and not those around them. @teenajusino3494 Hi Teena, yes I was just doing a comparison to show that your meds could still be cheaper. In Australia our Health Dept negotiates directly with the Pharma companies to get the cheapest price on all medications. Really glad President Biden was able to get cheaper prices for your asthma meds it must be terribly scary not to be able to afford such vital medication. Fingers crossed Kamala Harris is your next President.
My before the ACA my friend's inhalers were $300, he used to have to go down to Tijuana to buy his rescue inhalers and they would be about $25 there. I'm so glad to hear this news
Interesting. In Perú, considered a 3rd world country. the cheapest brand is less than $2 and the most expensive is $22. 🤔. Of course, the standard of living is very different between the two countries. In many European countries, and I believe Canada, health services are either free or very inexpensive.
This story rings true because I grew up in this same situation with my brother who suffered from asthma. When we could afford an inhaler he could get through the night no problem when he didn’t have one it was completely different. Since we shared a room I would go get my parents when he was wheezing and they would be up all night with him trying different things and then have to go to work the next morning. He missed out on so much as a kid because of his asthma without an inhaler.
Considering all that Joe Biden has done for ALL of America, we should all feel like garbage for treating him as poorly as we have the last month. Best President since FDR, without question.
My inhaler used to be $400 each, and I'd go as long as possible before I'd go in for another one. Then we got on Good Rx which knocked it down to $220 or so, but that still hurt. Every time I'd go in the clerk would ask me if I was aware how much it cost, and I'd have to tell them, yes, but what could we do about it? My husband is on insulin and he used to do without that because it was so expensive. The minute they got that down to $35, I started cheering for them to do asthma inhalers next. This will save lives. Thank you Pres. Biden, VP Harris & Sen. Sanders. You've answered a lot of people's prayers.
There were times in the past that we had to choose between paying a bill or getting my husband's inhalersand the other medicationshe needed to survive. We didn't even bother thinking about cable or internet services. Vacations or going to the movies or out to eat were all luxuries we cut out of our budget. I don't even know how many times we had to tell the kids no for things they wanted to do or have. They understood that if Daddy didn't get his medicines, he would get very sick and understood way too early that could include death. We are in a much better place now with his health and our finances but I am so glad that other people won't have stuggle in fear. People and families who depend on daily maintenance medications shouldn't have to live in fear.

Vote BLUE braise the republicans are working against this. They are being backed the the corporations lobbies.
They probably DO have insurance. My one inhaler costs $75 each. I stopped taking my ADHD meds because they were almost $100/month. My husband is in the hospital right now and I have zero idea how I will pay for that. We have good insurance that I pay $400/month for.

Yes!! Finally!! This is *so* good to hear! My mom & my older brother both have asthma & allergies to all kinds of things ; dust, bird feathers/ down, animal dander (mostly cats’ & rabbits’), seasonal allergies & certain foods. My older brother almost died from one of his food allergies, when he was twenty, because one of our aunts forgot to check the ingredients list for a set of chocolate candies that she had given each of us, Mom & our then future stepfather & us & our cousins & their mom, a piece of. He started having a bad reaction just a couple minutes after he ate it. He leapt up out of his chair, and raced back to the bathroom where we could hear him vomiting & then retching. He then came stumbling back out into the living room, wheezing & struggling to breathe. He hadn’t been able to get either an inhaler, or even his usual allergy kit that month because he was saving money for his college expenses & trying to get his car fixed. Plus, Mom hadn’t been able to help him get his meds because of all her car troubles that summer. His face & eyes were all red, swollen up & puffy when he came out of the bathroom. His eyes were *both* swollen shut. Great Aunt Helen called 911 & then the local hospital. She & Mom decided it would be faster if they just drove him into town, and to the hospital emergency room, than waiting for the town’s only ambulance to get clear out to Great Aunt Helen’s & Great Uncle Glenn’s lake home. My brother told us later on, the next evening, that he had almost blacked out in the back seat of Cousin Penny’s car, on the way into town. Mom rode with them as they followed Aunt Helen into town. My brother wound up having to stay the night at the hospital, hooked up to a portable oxygen tank & with a glucose drip going into his arm. I don’t remember exactly how much that single night’s stay at the hospital cost. I just remember thinking it sounded outrageously expensive when Mom told us how much we were getting charged for it. We found out my brother had been having first, a severe asthma attack, and then he had started having anaphylactic shock. His throat had closed up from the allergic swelling. I’m just glad that he made it out of that night okay, and also that none of my allergies ever got that bad. My own asthma has always been pretty mild by comparison. I seldom ever needed an inhaler, except when I was really, really sick with a respiratory infection. What I had, they used to call it chronic bronchitis. But, these days they tell me it was actually a milder form of asthma. I don’t get the asthmatic reactions to my allergies though. But, Mom & my brother do. That’s why they could never have cats, or birds, for pets. I found out that was also the reason I don’t remember ever having a real Christmas tree in the house, when we were kids. Mom found out my older brother & I both had serious allergies to evergreen trees & shrubs, when I was still just a toddler. So, ever since I can remember, we always put up an artificial Christmas tree for the holidays. I didn’t mind. I just didn’t know why that was, until Mom told me about it when I was twelve. Crazy stuff. Asthma can get awfully scary though. There was a guy, a twenty-something year old kid, who was the captain of the KU swim team back in my hometown during the mid-nineties. He was at swimming practice, at the Robinson Gym, and he had just finished a set of laps & he had told a friend & teammate that he wasn’t feeling too well as he was getting out of the pool. He went into a severe asthma attack & died before he could even get to the locker room. I think he was only 22 years old when he passed away. My big brother was only twenty when we almost lost him. I was thirteen at the time, and we already had just lost our dad in January of that year. Our cousins, our great aunts & great uncles, and Mom & I barely slept that summer night in 1984. We were all so afraid we might lose him. 🙏🏼💜🏨🙍🏻💉💜🙏🏼

At the moment I am fortunate to have commercial insurance....If you have Medicare or Medicaid the manufacturer of trelegy can possibly give you free medication if you qualify or refer you to a company that may only charge $50-$60 a month. That is still alot of money but better than $800 a month. My insurance is changing in 2025 so I'm not sure what I will do. This is a maintenance drug for my asthma. After I graduated from college, my mom kept her prescription filled and sent me her rescue inhalers because I had no insurance and couldn’t afford the $600+ dollars a month out of pocket for preventative medication. Grateful for both Obamacare and Biden/Harris right now.
I'm in the UK, the cost of a prescription (for any medication, not just inhalers) is like £10. This comment section is breaking my heart 😢 "Illness is neither an indulgence for which people have to pay, nor an offence for which they should be penalised, but a misfortune the cost of which should be shared by the community." Nye Bevan, father of the NHS. Yeah, we're taxed on almost everything here, but 20% of it goes to the NHS, absolutely worth it.
I was the same way. I drank lots of coffee as a kid to try to help, but most times, I ended up in the ER. So glad that inhalers are now capped at $35. My Advair is a lot less expensive now too!
My daughter, now in her 30s, has had asthma since she was a child. We were lucky enough to have a wonderful Dr for many years that gave her one of the sample inhalers he received from the pharmaceutical reps, nearly every time she went in for any reason at all. We did have one ER incident that cost a fortune, between losing my job related insurance and Obamacare starting up. For years I picked and dried lemon balm to make tea, as it helped a little. Ironically, now that the cap on inhalers has gone into effect, she finally has a job with decent insurance! It shouldn’t have been this way!!
35$ a month for an inhaler is still insane, in most developed nations it'd be free, at cost or no more than like 10€. In my country theres also a cap on the cost of perscribed medications per month, so you cannot pay more than like 100€ a month in perscribed medications. I think the best alternatives for asmtha medication are restricting inflammatory food intake, breathing excercises, restricting environmental and scent pollution, using anti inflammatory ingredients like in ginger teas, inhaling anti inflammatory essential oils or smoking an anti inflammatory herb, obviously these aren't as practical or effective as an inhaler though.

They didn't have inhalers when I was a kid. I would go to the ER and get an epinephrine injection, which always seemed to work. I would throw up 20 minutes later, but I could breathe. When I was 3, the doctor gave me one on the couch in my parents's house from his black bag, because he lived nearby. (Early 60s) I thought I was going to die of an asthma attack before I was 16, but I always seemed to be within an hour of the hospital But what if I wasn't? Then once I was 11, I was allowed to take Tedral. I always had a bottle with me. It worked, although it made me feel nervous and shaky. The Biden/Harris administration getting this through will save many lives a year, including children's.
I remember those epinephrine shots. One time my dad took me. He didn't believe me when I said I was going to throw up, and pull over... ... He's not a good person, so I cherish the time I barfed in his car. 😁
I've been a pediatric respiratory therapist for 40+ years, and had a lot of frequent flyers, especially children with asthma, because of the HORRENDOUS costs of inhalers. Finally. So he had to choose to go without his jardiance which has been making a difference and keeping his blood sugar levels under control more.
Funny to see people in the US talking about stuff like this. An inhaler is below $10 in Australia and has always been. I just take that for granted.

Oof. Living in the UK, I very nearly died at the age of ten due to an asthma attack. I wore a breathing mask for several days (still remember that smell). This was with my inhaler. Without it, I doubt that I would've made it to the hospital.

Good point. These corporations need to be held accountable. And if even a penny of taxpayer money went into any bit of the research that made their drug or treatment possible, there needs to be a totally separate process for selling it as in the corporations do NOT get a "patent" for it.

Interesting. In Perú, considered a 3rd world country. the cheapest brand is less than $2 and the most expensive is $22. 🤔. Of course, the standard of living is very different between the two countries. In many European countries, and I believe Canada, health services are either free or very inexpensive.
Yeah, this is mostly just the case in the US due to corporate greed and legislative corruption.

This story rings true because I grew up in this same situation with my brother who suffered from asthma. Yes!!

Lol you think health care is free in other places.

@@matthewkeebler2326 Get your whacky right wing libertarian nonsense outa here, it is self explanatory that by when someone says "free" they mean no incurred and direct personal cost, not that the service or good has no extraction cost.
This might sound absolutely mind boggling to you but it is indeed far more efficient and effective to diversify the cost of public good essential services across the entire populace on a progressive basis, this decreases negative externalities and leads to a net gain.

In 2020 about of Covid gave me, a senior ,a respiratory condition that required a maintenance and rescue inhaler (1st time in my life) problem they were $345 even with Medicare and I couldn’t afford them.
It saved my kid , thank God
I spend £114.50 ($146.94 at the time of posting) per year. It covers all my inhalers, my eczema creams, my epi pens and my hrt. I've had asthma since birth and as a kid I lost my inhaler or ran out. My family NEVER had to worry about providing my medication. Prescriptions for children are free in England. If my kid needs something it will be provided. I can't imagine the heart break of seeing your child suffer because you can't afford to provide basic health care. I'm glad that the Biden administration have done this but in my opinion it is not nearly far enough. The American health care system is a disgrace.
WHAT!! Mine is usual over $200 bucks out of pocket. Thanks for sharing, I hope it’s true.😊
I dont have kids with asthma. But I truly believe that inhalers should be free for those that need it. Its ridiculous that we don't take care of our citizens.
Moved to NY from Florida because one inhaler without insurance cost 330.00. That was just for my rescue inhaler, not for my everyday medicine, which was $ 1234.00. Thank you, President Obama, for saving my life!
We were fortunate that we went to church with a surgeon who'd grab samples for my brother when we were kids. My parents couldn't afford his inhalers and nebulizer ampoules, but he had to have 4-6 nebulizer treatments a day. That doctor was a saving grace for us.
I'm so pleased to hear this, as an Australian it is insane to me that it has taken this long. Ventolin is like $12 (usd) here and you can buy it without a script.
It's my understanding that Ventolin inhalers can be made to manufacture m.e.t.h.. that's why they're very stingy with them, at least in my state.
A Ventolin inhaler costs 10.99$ (AUD) in Australia. Why do you have to pay so much?
They didn't have inhalers when I was a kid. I would go to the ER and get an epinephrine injection, which always seemed to work. I would throw up 20 minutes later, but I could breathe.
When I was 3, the doctor gave me one on the couch in my parents's house from his black bag, because he lived nearby. (Early 60s)
I thought I was going to die of an asthma attack before I was 16, but I always seemed to be within an hour of the hospital But what if I wasn't? Then once I was 11, I was allowed to take Tedral. I always had a bottle with me. It worked, although it made me feel nervous and shaky.
The Biden/Harris administration getting this through will save many lives a year, including children's.
I remember those epinephrine shots. One time my dad took me.
He didn't believe me when I said I was going to throw up, and pull over...
... He's not a good person, so I cherish the time I barfed in his car.

The way our country has medically treated people is a sin. We need universal Healthcare. We are suppoedly the richest country in the world, and we won't care for our people.
I am a French immigrant living in the US for 13 years. I don't get why the people that are supposedly working for its citizens (Congress) are in bed with corporations.
I never heard of people losing their houses because of medical debts as opposed to what happens in the US
My cat has asthma. I’ve been trying to source his inhaler from Canada for $33 each. But if I can get them for $35 here, that would be awesome.
Turns out this is only for people with insurance
The inhalers only cost a few dollars each. The companies are still making a good profit .
My son is a type one diabetic who has also developed type two diabetes as well his life sustaining insulin has been very difficult to afford over the years. Sometimes insurance companies want us to pay more than $1000.00 a month. Now that he has type two (insulin resistance) as well he just informed me that he couldn’t afford to pay for both his insulin and his jardiance, as well as his metformin! So he had to choose to go without his jardiance which has been making a difference and keeping his blood sugar levels under control more. These are life sustaining medications and it’s difficult to try to keep up with the costs. As well as the costs of my own medications as I have health ailments that are hereditary and debilitating!
He’s an adult who has a wife and two children. One of his children has to take medications, including an inhaler. But he was diagnosed when he was seven and almost died because he got a virus that switched off his pancreas from producing insulin. His level was 1,380 when he was diagnosed and the doctors were surprised he was alive! He was hospitalized in Boston at the children’s hospital and we were taught to take care of him by the Jocelyn’s diabetes staff. He was hospitalized for three weeks!
He literally works three FT at home Jobs a week and his wife works one ft job a week too. Also him and his wife also work doing reptile expos on the weekends. They are the hardest working family I know! Yet they have fallen behind because of medical bills and medication costs!
Me too! It was terrifying as a child. My asthma is well under control as an adult without inhalers. I can't imagine what children are going through. Thank you Joe and Kamala!!!❤❤❤
I’m a grateful recipient also!!! 💙💙💙💙
And what did trump do for Americans? That would be a big fat NOTHING!
My inhalers went from $10 per inhaler to $80 per inhaler overnight. I've been struggling with paying for them ever since, often going without and using other methods to try to ease my breathing difficulties.
I have three sisters with asthma…this regulation is HUGE, and we are eternally grateful
