- On demo now in North London! A quick first look at the brand new Super 6 Analogue Hybrid Polysynth from Bristol-based manufacturer, UDO.
A powerhouse of a synth, incredibly versatile and heaps of fun to play (and not a screen in sight!), the Super 6 is certainly one of the most exciting synths we've had the pleasure of featuring for quite a while. This demo model has just landed, so rest assured we’ll be digging a bit deeper in future demos to better showcase the scope of what this synth is capable of. In the meantime, we just had to get it setup and give it a whirl.
There was no plan here - just plug-in and play. Most sounds are either patches, or built off default patches with some rudimentary tweaking (basic parameters like ADSR, filter cutoff, drive, chorus etc). Unfortunately I have no idea what I did specifically so please don't ask!

This is one of the best sounding synthesizers I have ever heard.
@@davemaric4057 Choose the Moog One then you sell it. Buy yourself a Super 6 and you'll have around three thousand dollars left over lol
@@davemaric4057 Moog One sounds terrible for the price and power.. Prophet 10 rev 4 is AWESOME sound, the best sounding modern synth by far.... this UDO sounds ok, but very digital you could get similar results from software easily (even without a real SSM style filter). For me Prologue 16 and Prophet 10 are the real VCO/ANALOG sounding deal, and Polybrute and Super 6 are weaker/thinner/flatter sounding synths with more features (but could be done in software)
@@HappyProducer nah this thing is not thin sounding in the flesh. The resolution of the audio is soo high it has that full analog sound with the vast flexibility of digital. It is a highly musical and emotional sounding synth. The prophet you mention does sound huge but has a limited sound palette.
For me it's between Super 6 or OB6. Hard choice!
It sounds a lot like a Jupiter-8, although the Jupiter-8 sounds a little better IMO
The way the sounds drift from ear to ear in such an organic way... absolutely stunning.
I fell in love with this instrument the first time I saw George demonstrate it... Special.
1:42 😍🔥😍🔥😍🔥😍🔥😍🔥 I fell in love with the Super 6 because of that phrase. Top notch programming & chops!
I'm a sucker for aesthetics, I'd buy this synth just to be able to stare at it. It makes you want to sit with it, be with it. Sound isn't too bad either ; )
word
My gawd this sounds beautiful. The filter + noise is so sweet.
Mind blown!!! great work. Best sounding synth in a very long time!!!
Very good demo of what I think will be a classic. Thank you! George Hearn is truly a genius!
great work - this is the best super 6 demo so far.
so far the best demo for this synth... i wanna have it. thanks!
Such a haunting demo!
Lovely sounding synth. No Doubt.
It sounds so.... effing.... ALIVE! Brilliant share. Thanks!
My knees are weak after listening to this, my god what a machine. This is a Blade Runner synth.
Thank you so much for posting. im still waiting for my blue one to come. I ordered from perfect circuit last year.
just one word - LUSCIOUS!
Nice - thanks for the demo in the wild at last 👍
Thanks, you're welcome!🙏
Amazing synth! Great to see some innovation in this area coming from Bristol! Big up UDO
Couldn't agree more... exciting times
I like that it is made in the UK, too!
Nice demo! This is the first time I've heard this synth do something other than tried and true things... thanks for bringing out some of it's character.
Much appreciated Christopher - there will be more!🤘
Yes, it's a beauty and you've really brought out its character.
That opening Deep Pad is Just quite Fantastic sounding.
1:50 was amazing - Loved that transition.
Thank you!
That part reminds me of the Enid😊
Agreed - goosebumps!
Lack of a screen puts you in touch with just oscillators, envelopes, filters, modulation routing and sounds creation, it's that simple, this would have to be the best sounding analog/digital synth of the decade, that's a serious claim I know, not even the new PolyBrute to my mind comes close, the immediacy of sound sculpting minus menus and screen looks like freedom of a sort.......awesome demo.
Nope, see around 6 minutes with the fast arp? it sounds digital/soft synthy AF.. cos of the digital oscs, the filter is great but it can't it for analog... sorry, put it next to a Prophet 10 Rev 4 and see what REAL analog sound and beauty is meant to sound like. This is another gimmick synth like the Polybrute with lacklustre tone (but does at least have much nicer filter than the polybrute)
@@quarkyzarkyI think you can achieve that analog sound from the S6 without any problem. It depends on the patch he made and what he felt right but on paper this thing has got both the cover and the chops to emulate almost any analog poly you want.
@@quarkyzarky if you watch the video from Major osc of the Super 6 Vs Summit you know what I mean.
Perfect organic analog there. Great examples.
Im in love with your style man!
Thanks Kyle - glad you liked it!
Wonderful playing! 🥲
Sounds killer can’t wait to get mine. 👍
Genuinely excited for you - it really is a fantastic synth.😬
Love the stereophonic oscillators. Paints or pans the sound all over the stereo field.
idk any great synth can be used with some eventide rack gear etc and get something like this
2:39 was so frosty I had to turn my heating on.
Beautiful sounding machine no doubt.
Great Scott, what a machine ( Synth And Player ) ❤️
Ahh very kind - it's a wonderful beast! thanks :)
This is true Juno successor :)
Love the synth, love your Milano shop where I've both a ton of my Eurorack modules. Love Milano and Italy for that matter.
I can see this being used to score Blade Runner 2099 👍🏼
Nice playing, too!
Yeah, maybe they’ll get the date right this time. When I saw the first Blade Runner I laughed. 2019?? Given all the group think and mass hysteria we see now days, maybe he was right metaphorically.
ofcourse we have the bladerunner comment :D
@@kwaping thank you!
That synth sounds so massive.
I am actually emotional at how incredible this thing sounds and I'm not even wearing headphones while listening to this. I had my eyes on a Prophet Rev2 for my potential first big synthesizer, but thats changed now. On top of sounding beautiful, its one of the coolest looking synthesizers I've ever seen.
I agree. The aesthetic it’s absolutely spot on and sounds incredibly warm to my hears.
Me too… it brought me out of gear slut retirement.
I own both, although I got desktop UDO version. Yes, this blue one looks beautiful, now, sound wise, they are very different - they do overlap in bread and butter territory but each has its own quirks. I suggest you try 8 voice REV and then see if you want to upgrade to 16 voices. REV2 is modulation monster, UDO is slightly more digital but still worm and remind me very much to Jupiter 6.
@@earlsfield a lot of the stuff I make with synths right now is more soundtrack/ambient/sorta synthwavy stuff so having the UDO seems like it'll be a good fit! But I think my local synth shop has the Prophet on display in their shop as well so I may as well stop in and give the Rev a shot!
@@Laizerdisk In the meantime I have sent desktop back and got black UDO Super 6 with keyboard, because I wanted performance panel and I fell in love with the insturment as a whole. It is one of the most inspiring new instruments. I know we look at it as a poli, but it can do so many things like a modular. It has crazy features, but can sound classic, or modern, or sharp or mellow. It is super versatile instrument. REV2 on the other hand is something else, more bread and butter plus all the modulation crazyness. Two very different machines, that in my case complement each other extremely well.
Wow really nice sounds here.
Amazing 🤩
Great video, Very Unique Synthesizer!!! Amazing !!
Also I agree you brought out the caracter of the instrument in a lovely way I hear shades of Jupiter 6
ahh thank you for the kind words
The layout is very similar to that of the Jupiter 6, that's the reason why you "hear shades"...
Fantastic. Any more demos would be greatly appreciated
Thanks! - we're working on it ;)
@@funkyjunkltd +1 on this team :)
This is really fantastic!
Can't wait til mine ships out.
And I Hope they do a Super 8 next with 61 keys
To accommodate the super 6!
More voices as well? 8 poly, aka 14 mono? Anything else you would add other than more keys?
@@t1merickson 8 super voices in binural mode. 16 mono . 61 keys and same philosophy without having a screen. Maybe an extra oscillator, bi-Timbral, and a reverb an bam
Moog one destroyer!!!
@@sgmaelstrom no need for destroying moog one. Baloran has done the job allready.
...and a reverb to match that of the Summit.
...and a proper mod wheel, which you can leave in place without holding it there. And I'm as anti-menu-diving as the next person, but patch names stick in my head better than numbers.
Damn, impressive.
This synth is too expensive for me but man does it seem cool, really nice demonstration.
Good lord, this synth sounds great!
Thanks Pablum, UDO have really done an amazing job with this one!
The sound is spellbinding so amazing organic and huge, yet clean and detailed. Love it !
perfect
GREATSYNTH
This synth has such a haunting lo-fi sound to it. I love it.
may I ask about your desk? What brand is it? Thanks for the demo
wow !
2:00 Wicked mate.. Thank you

You're welcome! Glad you liked :)
Nice chordal work I’ve gots ask is the super 6 go straight to the board or thru them fancy processors and no midi out?
I really need to start saving...

Please make more videos of the udo 6
WOW
Any post effects?
This thing floats
Does this compete with the ob-6?
does it portamento ?
Are these all presets or have you programmed yourself? Sounds amazing!
Thanks Oliver! - The first (slightly detuned) part was programmed, the rest are predominantly presets with some aimlessly twiddling thrown in. I really think it's testament to the intuitive design and layout that you can just sit down in front of it without any prior knowledge and start creating right out the box.
1min 50 - floods of tears
How does this compare to ob6 in terms of sound and versatility?
it's not a SEM-based VCO structure, nor does it have State Variable analog filters. So not very close at all.
great demo, thanks! I hear a lot of clicks, and I finally spotted 2 of them cleary at 6:04 and 6:06 when you touch the chorus buttons. They even sound with delay at this times. Any idea if this will be fixed?
I have a Super 6 myself. It has phase reset issues. UDO said it would be fixed in a firmware update. But it seems that it is more difficult than anticipated since they gave August 5th as deadline and as of now (August 17th) don't have it ready yet. There are other bugs as well but I'm sure they'll get fixed in time. It's a great synth but there's no denying that we early adopters are beta testers.
I've received a test version of the new firmware v0.21. It resolved the phase reset clicks. Chorus button interruption is still there, no idea if that will be fixed (doesn't bother me personally).
It wont be fixed. This thing has a lot of issues
seemose really?
I'm pretty impressed with the synth but paying 2,5k€ for a "beta" is absolutely unacceptable to me
Internal reverb or external?
All sounds and effects are native to the Super6 - no added processing was used in the demo. :)
Love synths but I’m no keys player (guitarist) would just end up playing it with a sequencer and not doing justice to such a wonderful design. Plus have been on a splurge of kit buying and need to talk myself out of it 😂
Sounds great in your hands though 👍
It's about time UDO drew a line in the sand (box). This thing is already amazing. many of us are waiting and fully invested. How much better could they make it?
Make it bitimbral and have wave scanning as opposed to static waveforms.
@@EverettDudgeon138 I saw a thing about unlocking multi timbre mode. My mind is totally bent on this device.
@@EverettDudgeon138 OSC1 and OSC2 are already making a brand new sound together.
That's an interesting soundtrack for the Chernobyl series at 00:00
👍👍👍👍👍
Price aside, any thoughts on this versus the Moog One? Do the oscillators have a nice drifty feel to them? How is the bass? Do you experience any ear fatigue from the digital side? Thanks!
Good question! They’re different beasts - The Moog One is a behemoth of a synth - amazing for huge developing atmospherics, choral-like ambience and majestically ethereal sounds, although that is by no means all its capable of. I think that if you’re happy to spend some time learning your way around the One’s labyrinth of parameters and options, and are in the business of needing an almost limitless palette of sounds for serious compositional work for example, then the One is the ultimate tool. It’s a monster of a synth, but one that has been aimed at a particular type of user.
The Super 6 on the other hand - whilst occupying a lot of the same sonic territory - to my ear sounds and feels quite different (my colleague likened it to a Juno-6 crossed with a Prophet 5). Hard to pin-point what it is specifically at this stage but there’s something almost organic about its sound (the way sounds and textures evolve, for example).
The low-end is substantial and full-sounding (I’ll demo that better in the next vid) and with the drive circuit engaged it sounds really wonderful. Even the more digital sounding presets are lush and pleasing - my ears certainly didn’t get tired of the sound (but of course much of that will also depend on your monitors; we were switching between APS KLASIK2020's, ATC and PMC monitors). The layout encourages exploration in a creative and engaging way which for me is probably the most appealing point, besides the sound.
We'll be shooting a Moog One demo video this week so hopefully that will demonstrate the difference more adequately than my description does! Keep your eyes peeled.🙏
@@funkyjunkltd Cool, thanks for the reply! I'm looking for a synth to use for scoring. I did see that the Moog One was largely responsible for the fantastic Uncut Gems soundtrack. However, I do see the appeal of the user-friendly interface on the UDO and the binaural sound would be nice in a theater. As with all digital gear, I find that people kick it to the curb after 5-10 years and the analog stuff becomes more desirable. Not sure if this is the case here. I look forward to your Moog One video!
Sounds amazing. Strange question maybe... I know it was designed in Bristol UK, but where is it made?
Made in Germany
@@ItsThatJahncke2 That's plausible. Is that actual info from examining one in real life?
Yeah there's an interview with George the actual hardware is put together in Germany. Components are from all over. I was friends with George in primary school and I have no doubt that this is his baby, any firmware issues will be fixed.
F*ck, this is lush !
Good god that opening patch is lovely. I'm getting Terminator vibes!
Wait, are these _presets,_ as stated in the video's title? All I see are fade-in shots of a guy adjusting knobs and sliders to dial in a sound. For all I know, he could've been manually laboring over that sound for 15 minutes before hitting record (in other words, _not_ a preset).
Good point. I will update the description for clarity. Most - if not all, I can't remember now! - of these sounds were me scrolling through default patch-banks and hitting record on the spot, with only basic on-the-fly adjustments being made (mainly filter cutoff, drive, chorus, ADSR etc). As this was the first time we'd opened a Super 6 up it was only originally intended to give a rough idea of some of the sounds you can get more or less "out of the box". Sorry for any confusion (and of course if ever you're in the London area feel free to come and demo it yourself ;)
The Intro is very Terminator
only internal effect (delay)?
100% Super 6 - no external effects applied.🙂
Can this be played at your workshop via a booking?
Absolutely - It's on demo currently and you can book a slot via the link in the description!
thank you very much, that is good news. I will look into booking a slot..
Is it also possible to purchase from the workshop directly?
many thanks and all the best
Just realised I may have gotten a little confused in the exciting prospect of playing the UDO Super 6. For some moments I thought FunkyJunk and UDO were the same company.
Waaaant
Dope video! As a Grandmother owner myself, I must know…Super 6 or the Matriarch?
Oof - good question, love the Grandmother, but they're so different. So.... both?? 😬
Sold the Matriarch for Super 6. Lucky choice! Matriarch is missing low end, although it’s most likely the best sounding Moog at the moment. Anyway my Moog admiration naturally faded… S6 shines
The behreinger OB-xa may have to go on my “must have synth” back burner. This thing is FAT!!!!!
This is the one synth I’ve heard that comes close to the JD990 feel
Really? I owned a jd-800 for 10 years and for me this is clearly a different beast. They are both awesomely different, so it depends on the type of sound you are looking for. DCO sampled based or VCO
The JD-800 and its cousins seem like very different beasts compared to this. I love both though. The JD-800 just has that certain 90s sound that has kinda disappeared nowadays.
@@thelightcommeth Neither are VCO or DCO. I have a JD-800 - PCM digital based (sounds great though) and this UDO is Digital oscs code. DCO would be Juno, VCO would be prophet 10 rev 4 for example. Anyway, this synth sounds ok but it doesn't sound 'analog' at all, esp on fast punchy stuff.. .the digi oscs let it down again. JD-800 just sounds great though.
Really with its stereo voicing and real analog vcf fat butter mark b. Says the jd-800 is all that? I have both the 990&Jupiter 6 and it sounds very much like the JU-6 but more mature
3:14 sounds like "23 go in to end" from John Frusciante
How does this compare to Ob6?
Ask your ears
The first few seconds of the video sounded like On Sight by Kanye West.
This or Iridium...or C15...and now the gemini
I have the same struggle. But I like the way that super 6 present, it is simple but deep.( also I love blue..)
Go for the one that fits your personal taste. I love the sound coming from super 6. It's like transporting into a different world that's soul crushingly distant, grey and void of being able to open your mouth to even speak.. yeah the super 6 speaks volumes to me lol
UDO Super 6 not UDE
I can't make up my mind about this synth. Always these pad sounds and pitch bending effects. Very strange. But this demo is for sure much better than that of UDO. Good low end. (and no arps please it's much better if you play)
Thank you! I'll be doing a pt 2 hopefully this week demonstrating some of the deeper and darker tones, in particular the lower end of it's capabilities (fewer pads, for sure). Feel free to let me know if there's anything in particular you're interested in hearing.
@@funkyjunkltd Yes, of course, e.g. some standard use cases for music. E.g. Bass lines, lead lines, accompaniment, .. It was to some extent already in your video.

am I the only one that finds it too fizzy and metallic?
Roll$ Roy£e
Cool but not $3,000 cool. Novation Summit would be a much better buy at an $800 discount.
Tonally I think this sounds superior in almost every way to the summit, however in terms of assignable parameters, yes it is more comprehensive - but then again I just sold a prophet x for this thing plus some cash - simply because finding sweet spots is more important than how many parameters you have to assign.
Nice , but this synth is £500 over priced
You dont get to make that call when there is nothing else on the market that offers what it does
I may be deaf, but I don’t hear anything special about it. And the sound is distorted in sometimes...
Well synth snobs like wine snobs are knowns to have better hearing and taste buds than us peasants so…thanks for letting us know that what WE were hearing isn’t actually what we were hearing. May I position your grapes on the vine above your head now for your noon time feeding me lord?

Listen with headphones. The spatial experience via binaural is a deal maker. So full and magical.
Sounds like a big fart
Really do you ?
No greater compliment.
Boring predictable sounds. Nothing new.
The sound design may not be to your taste, but the tone of this thing is mesmerisingly good.

Listen with headphones. Wow.
When I first heard demos of this thing, I was kinda meh/on the fence. The filter didn't jump out to me particularly, and then I realized I was high on crack and it sounds beautiful, organic, and very ready to go into a mix. Now I am high on other crack that makes me want one even tho I have no clue if a large poly like this will ever be in my budget.
Long story short, solid demo great sounds haha
was undecided between this and the hydrasynth but I hink this could be the one
The UI on the super 6 ALONE sold me, then i heard it ....... The hydra is really really nice though. both would be great
I had the same feeling and opted for the Super 6 for the lovely layout. It's been a long wait though. Two more weeks for mine to arrive.
They are quite different beasts. The hydrasynth is digital and about £1,000 cheaper, more if you buy the module version. Whilst I think it looks like quite a cool synth, if you can afford the udo6 I don't think the hydrasynth would be in my list of alternatives.
