  • I am fond of foxes, jeez, just look at them. Allow me to share some Googled info...
Both red and gray foxes can be found in Florida, including South Florida *YEPPERS, JUST NORTH OF FORT LAUDERDALE:
Red fox - This fox is native to the Panhandle but has expanded its range across Florida, both naturally and through human introduction for hunting. Red foxes are known for their red fur, black-tipped ears, and white-tipped tails. They can also have grayish or dark chestnut variations, which can make them harder to distinguish from gray foxes. In Florida, red foxes don't grow a winter coat like they do further north, but they do tend to gain weight and become less fluffy.
Gray fox - This fox is native to the Tampa Bay area and can be found throughout Florida, though it's more common in the northern part of the state. Gray foxes prefer wooded areas with dense, inaccessible cover, and have a black stripe running down the length of their tail. Gray foxes are generally not aggressive and will try to stay away from people, but a female may be more protective of her babies and bark or growl if you get between her and them.
