Its the 19th (and 20th) of November and we decided to head to SE Devon to see how many disused stations we could tick off.
Welcome to Episode 2 of #EveryDisusedStation
Paul and Rebecca have decided to embark upon and rather silly challenge which will hopefully see them visit all 6800 (approx. figure) disused stations in the UK. As always the criteria being that we get as close as possible without a) Trespassing and b) endangering ourselves or others. Stations do include those that are in use as heritage lines. (of course they are no longer disused but in the sense of a mainline passenger station, they are certainly on our list).
Please do visit the lovely Colin (who does one better than us and actually cycles to disused stations). His website is: teignrail.co.uk/ Better still if you have the time, take a walk down the Public bridleway that passes by his complex. Its not open to the public (yet), but plenty to be seen from a safe distance.
    All music licensed through: www.epidemicso...
For those that made it to 16:02 we cannot vouch for the state of the squirrel, it did a runner before we got close. Hopefully just a headache!
For those that made it to 16: 30 the link to the benchmark video is here: • Measuring Heights Prio...
For those that made it to the end... well done! The last three/four stations gave us very little to work with!
Thanks for watching. Paul and Rebecca

Colin at the Exeter & Teign Valley Railway is a good friend of mine for over 25 years. What he doesn’t know about railways isn’t worth knowing. I stayed there a month after your trip in 2018. He is the only person that has a joined up vision for the future of the railway.

You two had set yourselves one serious challenge... the main problem with disused railways is that they are disused so you can't just hop on a train to each stop.... this is gonna be one hell of an experience for you both. Love your editing style. Keep it up... remember Britain runs (or used to run) on tea, gin and rusty old rails

Wrangaton Signal box has now been re-erected at the Kidderminster Railway Museum. I recall a very enjoyable weekend attempting to chip hardened lime mortar from the bricks as we dismantled it, in October 1994! I can't believe it was so long ago!

I'm so glad I found your channel recently, i've loved all of the vids I've seen so far. This one especially is making me rather homesick as I grew up in Brixham so spent a lot of time around the Paignton & Dartmouth line and I also volunteered for the South Devon Railway as a fireman back in 2007. I'm now living in Alaska, lil bit far away from home to be doing that again but this has put a huge smile on my face and warm feelings in my heart. Thank you. Also, if you ever get the chance to head down this way again, try looking for Sorley Tunnel (used to be a family adventure attraction at one point) which is down near Kingsbridge. And if you keep going into Plymouth, there's some great remnants of the L&SWR running through the city. If you haven't already done so (you may have and I just haven't gotten to that vid yet), look up the Devonport and Ford tunnels that still run under Devonport Park (although mostly inaccessible these days).

Ref the dotted line on your sketch map. The Plym valley line ran up the valley via Yelverton to Tavistock. Also higher up the P.lymouth side of the valley was a tramway with granite sets. It was just metres from my then home next to Mainstone wood. The tramway was used to transport granite from High Dartmoor near Princetown to sea level at Marsh Mills. Much of both are walkable.
EDIT, I see you have explored here in other vids I just found. Thanks !

Just discovered your channel and really enjoying it. Glad to see the comment you made below about Dartmouth, because it was a real station in that you could buy through tickets from there. I know it very well because my Dad (who would have been 90 this very day strangely) used to drive the British Railways parcel delivery truck down there back in the 60s. He'd take me with him on Saturdays and in the school holidays. We would load all the parcels from the train into the truck at Kingswear and then take the lower ferry across the river and sort them into delivery order in the station at Dartmouth (actually I'd be playing down on the ferry pontoon by now). Then it was off on and adventure that would take us all around Dartmouth (always a lot of parcels for the Naval College), Strete, Blackawton, Blackpool and Slapton. Very fond memories. He then got promoted to chargeman at Paignton where he stayed until he retired in the early 90s. I got promoted too because I got to ride up and down from Paignton to Kingswear in the DMUs that they were using until the line was closed by BR. So yes, please go back to Dartmouth, it is a lovely place. Even after 40 years of exile in Hampshire.
Keep up the good work. Brilliant channel.

Have you done a video on any abandoned stations in Cornwall yet? There's Perranporth, St Agnes and Shepherds Stations on the Chacewater to Newquay branch (closed 1963). On that line there was also Mount Hawke, Goonbell, Mithian, Perranporth Beach, Goonhavern, Mitchell & Newlyn and Trewerry & Trerice Halts. This line had the highest number of stops in proportion to its total length of 18 miles 75 chains. And that's just for starters!

A huge challenge. If you are including the Isle of Man on your list, let me know when you are coming here. There are some lovely disused stations to see here and since the Island is small, you can get them all done in day! In fact, once or twice a year the railway group hire a bus to take people around the old stations and sometimes inside them, so if you time your visit with that, it will be easy :-)

Well, that was a trip down memory lane. We used to live in Devon (Jo hails from there) so there were quite a few places that we were able to recognise, if briefly, as you thundered past. What you need are OS Maps on your mobile. It would certainly make tracking down the stations much easier, although not necessarily more fun. 🙂

The bridge at 6;20 is the grand driveway to THE BIG HOUSE high above the station. The Children from there caught the train for School it says in the book of the line. Yes I was going to model the station but wives and lives got in the way. Lived in Devon for most of my life and still have connections. @@pwhitewick Fair enough but there was something about the Kingsbridge branch that I read or heard (cannot remember which one lol) that the South Devon Railway were planning to buy the line from Brent to Kingsbridge but i'm not too sure if the line was ripped up before they made a offer or the price was too high but instead they ended up buying the (Paignton to Kingswear) Dartmouth Steam Railway from British Rail.

I'm confused. In the S & D video, you visited 39 stations. Episode 1 was Churn (40). How was the first stop in Episode 2 - 45? Also, where were 17, 30, 33-35 in this video? Did I blink too often?

All very good questions!.... We may have overlapped one or two in error. However best place to check is the website and the datebase on the everydisusedstation tab. We try and update this but as suggested might be one or two cross overs.

Great vid guys, as mentioned already you’ve set yourselves one hell of a project/challenge, you must be spending a fortune on Premier inns!? How many lines a year do you hope to visit?
One suggestion, could you please announce which line your on when you get to your first station site as I got a bit lost in following where you were lol! You did say what lines you were doing at the beginning but as I was following where you were online, you moved on to the next line before I’d caught up, not sure if this is just me or has anybody else mentioned this?

    • @pwhitewick

Cheers William. Glad you are enjoying the videos. We plan ahead quite a bit so always look out for a cheap deal, not always premier Inn, just whatever is the cheapest we can find.
This was our second video in the series and we learnt a lot from this. We pretty much burnt ourselves out doing so many lines in one video, so here on in afterwards we took it a tad slower and did one line at a time. Hopefully that will make it easier to follow. (Feedback definitely appreciates though so feel free to comment on any others).
      👍👍👍

Whitewick's Abandoned Railways Your welcome, I was worried in case I sounded like I was nitpicking.
My project has been ongoing now since 2008, and not got a lot done, a few but not a lot, I’m planning on walking or cycling every Disused Railway that’s walkable without trespassing, which is one reason it’s taken me so long so far! Besides time and cost!
So I can appreciate the effort and work that’s involved in what you are doing.
Best of luck with the project!😀👍

Paul, just one piece of advice... when trying to justify on'es ignorance of Harry Potter references you will do better to claim you have not read the books rather than you have not watched the films.

These days I live in sunny... well, not today perhaps, but... Torquay. Because of this, I now have the right to engage full smug mode, as I've visited all of these stations over the last 10 years or so... Except Christow (typical!). Now, thanks to your video, I'll be checking that out in the warmer weather.
