I think remarks like "everyone has anxiety" actually perpetuate the stigma because that doesn't allow for any distinction between everyday stress and actual anxiety disorders. She used "stress" and "anxiety" interchangeably and they are simply not the same thing. Insinuating that /everybody/ suffers from anxiety takes away from those who actually have a disorder and need help... Equating stress and anxiety implies that mentally ill folks are "weaker" because they cannot function in the same way mentally well people can. Stress and anxiety are very different things. That's just the truth.
Brooke Dobossy Your comment reflects many of my exact thoughts while watching/listening to this. I almost immediately found her remarks disjointed from the clinical side of anxiety and associated disorders, and packaged them with typical or routine stress. It came off as a great disservice to those of us who suffer with chronic anxiety and panic disorders, the variety of which cannot be cured with a glass of wine.
Yes, very true. As someone who has suffered from severe anxiety at times, meaning I am in a total panic 24/7 and can only stay in a darkened room with no contact with anyone when I am feeling like this, her idea of anxiety would be my idea of a really good day!
Ummmmm...... I'm sorry but anyone who has ever had a panic attack will tell you that the physical and psychological affects from them are SO much worse than the stigma about anxiety. You can teach yourself to ignore other people's opinions, you can't just magically pretend that you aren't having random moments in which you feel like your having a heart attack and might die.
so true; I don't get panic attacks frequently anymore, unless I slip up on my breathing - but, idgaf about the stigma when it feels like im falling off a cliff for an hour straight.
YES! I have multiple anxiety attacks a day on an average day, in which I scratch myself until I bleed, feel like I’m dying, and am at a complete loss of control, I don’t see that in the media anywhere. Anxiety is so over glorified 😑
It starts with something like this... I would feel a bit stressed out and the I start to worry that I'll have stroke. I then check my blood pressure to reassure myself. Blood pressure raises and I become more worried. This spiral continues until I'm almost incapacitated by fear, convinced that I'm about to die, and end up driving myself to the emergency room at 2AM to have my blood pressure checked.
I'm actually crying because I had no idea that something like this could relate to my life so much. I've had anxiety my whole life and nothing bothers me more that people telling me to get my mind off it, anxiety doesn't leave. It's not an emotion, it's a piece of your brain that didn't leave, it can be better at times but it's always there!! This made me so happy but so sad, I'm happy because I'm glad that other people know what I'm going through but sad also because I relate. Sorry for this little rant!! I just loved this video.
“Everyone has anxiety” no No NO us with anxiety disorders and disabilitys will all tel you that anxiety and stress is not the same thing! You are the reason that so many people think they have anxiety when they don’t! It is NOT the same! For an example: I scratch myself until I bleed when I am having anxiety attacks and those happen multiple times a day, this is not caused because of stress but instead because my brain is sick or in other ways wired to think that I’m constantly in danger and I many times can’t calm myself down because I’m in a complete loss of control. Stress, you can cure that with Maybe a spa trip, or hanging out with family. Anxiety, you have to go through years of therapy and trying out different meds and sometimes not even that works.

I don't know why people casually say that they have anxiety whereas in real they don't even know what anxiety actually is. Anxiety is very much misguided by worrying ,fear of the future outcomes etc but no that's not anxiety. The strong feeling of worry, nervous, negative mind, fear etc is called anxiety. I don't even want to start with the physical symptoms of anxiety like heart palpitations, dizziness, nausea, numbness in which you can feel your own body, tingling sensation etc as there are many. For those who still didn't get what anxiety is do me a favour and say this to someone who really have anxiety disorder and i promise you they will explain it to you ;)
By the way she talks, obviously she has not suffer from anxiety personally. Anxiety is a more of spiritual imbalance(mind n body), is the body speaking to you that there needs to be a change: to be more grounded.
Yes...I dropped a year because I couldn't get admission in any university...my anxiety was worsening as family n friends pressure...i thought I could get some relief watching ted talks...we the first thing I clicked was this...n now I'm more stressed:)
I have to agree. Having severe depression and anxiety is much worse than Cancer. At least people recognize cancer as a life threatening illness. They don't dismiss you as if you are trying to get more than your fair share of sympathy out of the world. I would rather have cancer. At least it might kill me quicker than My mental illnesses.

Pattijo Dingee That's awesome to hear. One day at a time is right. And things will get better if you work at it. No matter how impossible is sometimes might seem.
Pattijo Dingee I feel for u. I also get anxiety for no reason than I will get anxiety. I want to avoid at all cost the symptoms which keep me from living in the moment. I get dizzy, i fear I am going crazy, etc... It's scary. And it's hard not to react to it when it's happening.
I suggest you try meditation or simply relaxing music. It's a simple way to reduce stress and anxiety. Meditation provides a soothing of the mind and helps to connect with yourself. Obviously, this does not prevent being followed by a health professional. However, I believe it's a good way to take care of yourself and make you feel better. I sincerely hope that you will find your means to fight your anxiety.
As someone who suffers from anxiety, what really winds me up beyond belief is people who dismiss or minimise it by thinking it's just "worrying", and dealing with it is just a matter of "not worrying". This despite the seriousness of anxiety being explained multiple times. It seemingly just goes in one ear and out the other. I don't expect non-sufferers to truly understand, but it would be nice to be listened to. Some people are totally clueless about mental health, but if it was a physical condition, it would all be "are you ok?" , and so on, with real concern shown. They just don't get it. It's infuriating.
I find that for me, my anxiety a lot of times seems to be nutritionally based. If I don't eat correctly or have too much sugar or caffeine or even when I'm coming down with a cold. A quick fix for me, is a good meal. a good multivitamin, some exercise, sunshine and taking the supplements Gaba, 5HTTP, and Choline as needed. This seems to stabilize my thinking, also the Indian herb, Ashwagandha is very helpful.

We already have the most brilliant device ever made - our body. We've just become so distracted by stimuli that we've forgotten how to read it. We don't need another external THING to fix us, everything is within.
@@radar0412 Where did I say the solution was thinking, you delusional moron? Anxiety is literally negative overthinking, the point is to let your mind settle into a perspective that is detached from those negative thoughts.
The instant cure for anxiety is to understand the fact that there are infinite amount of possible outcomes in this universe and our brain only thinks of a handful . A bad outcome can become the means of a good outcome in the future. Just like that a good outcome can become the means of a bad outcome. For example, you lost your job (bad thing). But then you got a new job which is better ( bad thing led to a good outcome.) It's an endless cycle. So just go with the flow and don't think about it . 😄 Goodluck.
Know what I love? The fact that my alcoholic friend who clearly takes benzos recreationally can go to one doctor in LA and get a massive prescription, while I, on the verge of losing my job and going to the hospital twice a week for panic attacks have been stonewalled by every medical professional I’ve seen. Honestly I don’t know how much longer I can take it. I’m just hoping that some doctor will see that and help me before it’s too late.
Real Name it’s like they know when you need it- they will be happy to give you them if you act like you could take or leave them and think to yourself it’s bonus if you get them not a matter of survival. The drs have key words or key mannerisms to look for that are red flags.
I love the assertive educated take on stress, bedrock of anxiety. I had to drop out of biomedical engineering actually because of a built up of stress. This video clip has been a relief.
Alienart she's using "stress" and "anxiety" interchangeably and she's using the act of feeling anxious interchangeably with having a clinical diagnosis of an anxiety disorder, like Generalized Anxiety Disorder, which isn't true. They're very different

Namaste We can chant OM 108 times daily. OM balances the energy body ( Sukshma Sarira ) and neutralizes lower frequencies like Anger, Hatred etc. It calms a persons aura. Thanks.
If you have anxiety this video might make you worse.. more of a spa for doctors. I came here looking to feel better and now I am shaking with rage over the millions affected by the mistakes in the DSM and the millions killed by iatrogenic RX. Not calming at all. Informative but there should be a warning that this is not for self help like most of these, this is hard facts and super stressful. The worst part is her stats are way to low and things are far more dire.
This can help you . It's helped me before .. After struggling with anxiety and depression I found that if I began thanking God ( I'm not religious) for all the small things I had and praying for people I know of who were in a terrible situation , I began to feel peaceful and actually happy . I had a sense of upliftment . I try to do this every day now . It really helps my dreadful anxiety.
You guys seek professional help! This is just a talk. You need medication and personal therapy. Please! I have Chronic Anxiety disorder. It sucks. Have it real bad right now. :( It's a stigma, and it's so hard to talk to people about it.:( Embarrassed. And by the way, her delivery is fine, remember, she has frickin anxiety disorder! gee
You're watching one. Get those tasks out of the way early and pamper yourself for the rest of the day. There is no cure for anxiety, but Taking care of yourself is the best thing you can do.
I hope she is successful at convincing the medical community of this device's merits. The whole diagnosis thing is excruciating. Usually you present first to a GP who is not really an expert. For myself, I don't have trouble sleeping, and I'm not conscious of worrying (overthinking, yes, but not worrying exactly), yet there are times I am completely debilitated at work to the point of cognitive impairment. The computer screen becomes a jumble of too high contrast meaningless squiggles while I'm sweating like mad, hyperventilating and feel frozen to the spot. Yet without the more major symptoms it's hard to say I have anything worse than mild GAD. That's a darned frustrating spot to be in when you feel job scared because you can't answer the phone! I hope her device helps people better identify where they really stand on the spectrum of mental illnesses.
Very inspiring. I want to stand beside people to help make anxiety and other mental health issues known. For others who don't understand, they need to be more emotionally aware of what others, who go through anxiety or depression or ptsd etc..., feel.
The biggest and overlooked reason for anxiety is your diet. The food you eat effects your mood because our gut and brain are connected. Your gut micro biome effects your mental health and body hugely. As a Matt of fact, the root to most illness starts with the gut.
I’m glad she’s at least doing SOMETHING to further research anxiety disorders. No! Not normal anxiety which lasts a few days and it’s gone, the crippling version that our families, friends, and employers brush off and we are left penniless, lonely, and on the verge of doom.
That’s probably the worst title they could’ve picked knowing it’s gonna catch people with anxiety’s attention. Anything can make us anxious, including calling anxiety “the cancer of mind”
I also have anxiety.. but I don’t think it is social anxiety I am not even sure whether it is anxiety or not But I am so tired of this I am just always anxious about being anxious Especially when I go to sleep I start thinking about things that scare me, and I remember that I can be anxious and I immediately get anxious! And even when I calm down I just realise that I calmed down and I get anxious again... And when in comes to food even if I am hungry I can’t eat when I am anxious Because when I am anxious I am also nauseous! Even if I am eating normally without anxiety, the fact that I am not anxious comes to my mind and I start feeling anxious again... And the weirdest part is that when I am outside or with my friends I can forget about it, and I feel less anxious then when I am alone. It is so awful I think that I am going crazy 😭 Similar thing used to happen with when I was a child, but it happened just at night And then it gradually disappeared And now this happened to me again, but in a worse way... I really hope that I am not the only one who has this kind of “anxiety”...
Actually i also have social anxiety.Just completed my 12th but school days were the worst days in my life...because often i bullied, humiliated teased due to my appearance, weirdness, awkwardness.Obviously i have no friends...not even a single soul. Everyday life is not easy....i feel like i am trapped in this vicious circle.. Recently i decided to seek professional for which i'm talking to my closed one. Actually i told someone about this problem and she said:...only weak people goes to therapy and u don't have a willpower to cure anxiety.I also struggled with anxiety but never took anyone's help What should i do now????
i think people have different way to do the presentation some use aggressive tone to make people interested or aroused and some just go with smooth tone i dont think agressive tone would fit this topic anyway she did quite good but in a bit unnatural manner that why people dont like it
Would this woman please drop her superficiality and her manic need for attention and " - YOU GOT TO LISTEN TO ME! BECAUSE I`M SMART I KNOW THE WAY! I`M DOING THIS FOR THE WORLD AND DESERVES CREDIT, RESPECT AND GRATEFULLNESS FROM PEOPLE!"
But what if other illnesses are at play and you can't even work but I so relate to a lot of this thinking the worse. She is so right about the stigma, it makes it So so much worse and if it were a diff illness it would be treated in such a diff way and we would bring them dinner and not question their credibility so it makes it shoot up way higher, the panic, the rage, the depression etc My brain is like this and its a horror story. Working on digestive issues that effect mood and anxiety but its not enough, haven't gotten that far. so stuck and need meds that are not the best long term. so many herbs supps acupuncture etc. Good talk though, gonna finish watching
What this guy said. I don't mean to be harsh but this is just someone offering their experience. If you need help seek help; don't watch videos on youtube hoping they'll cure you. Please do seek help.
gratefulandamazed just because they may have these effects, does not guarantee that they will considering how unique biochemistry is to the individual.... this is exactly why we need more diagnostic tests and tools that provide conclusive feedback are much needed. Given the nature of the long term pharmaceutical treatment and the effects on the body when any particular treatment may have not even been the best choice for the patient has been long ignored, many patients needlessly suffer from the side effects of medications they may never have needed in the first place. Sometimes patients need no more than therapy to manage symptoms, but are thrown onto SSRI's or heavier antianxiety meds like benzodiazepines since there's really no qualitative diagnostic tests. There are countless, more acessable organic substance that far out number what's behind the pharmacy counter that can cause severe sometimes irreversible anxiety among other things. However, the take home message is that awareness of this much underserved population of those struggling with MI are not being treated any better than some throwing darts in the dark hoping for the best. She's providing evidence that anxiety is measurable and the ability to have very individualized treatment has been long available yet completely ignored. She's trying to educate the public and academic community to this fact as a catalyst for change.... She's not advocating chemical use, quite opposite, she's trying to eliminate unnecessary use of pharmaceuticals
There is a difference between stress and anxiety, there is a difference between anxiety and panic disorder. Anxiety is not just about overthinking or worrying. Panic attacks are not just about crying and breaking down and having a fast heart beat. Anxiety and panic disorder are mental illnesses that can almost never be cured by oneself but only through therapy. Stress can be relieved through yoga, the spa, working out or whatever. Anxiety can not.
I couldn't even listen to this.. Im out.. going surfing... if your stressed which the 3 min of this video made me I suggest giving it a try If you live in Alaska just meditate
Prayer & meditation may provide a positive mindtrack... "Thou art My lamp and My light is in thee. Get thou from it thy radiance and seek none other than Me. For I have created thee rich and have bountifully shed My favor upon thee." ~ Baha'u'llah, Baha'i Faith
I have two anxiety disorders and for some reason the "raining with the window open" example didn't feel right to me. She did get the catastrophizing stuff right but I feel like non-anxious people watching would be like "big deal. why can't they just close the window and pick up the mess?" How about getting a test back with a bad grade and worrying about failing the whole class? Or getting an email from your boss that there's something important they wanna talk about with you and worrying about getting fired? They're more general examples, but I feel like more people can relate to it.
Let's be honest - it's a bad Ted talk. Just marketing, it does not help in any way to People with anxiety. I reccomend Tim Box anxiety Ted talk, really helped me guys!
So I put this on and zoned out right away. Why is she yelling? Lol. She is like defining anxiety as if its some sort of norm that we can surpass with a simple click of our phones.

Am I'm missing something? I was reading the comments and a lot of people comment how the speaker is stigmatizing and down playing their axienty which I did not pick up when watching the entire TED talk.
Just a side note. I've talked with many mental health professionals and they all agree with my hypothesis that every human suffers from some mental disorder. Something to keep in mind. It's a human problem.

If I understood correctly, according to Aneysha Bhat, there is a test that can measure levels of anxiety and stress. Where can I get this test? Has this test been approved? I have debilitating anxiety that affects my everyday life.
Anxiety is just because of deficiency of minerals in body like magnesium, calcium zinc, potassium. In current world anxiety is looked as deadly disease whereas it is not.
This thing is going to quantify how anxious you are, & based on that Dr. is going to prescribe right amount & type of anxiety med?? Or did I miss something?

Amazing seller with the ability to persuade her audiences... I buy her idea........................................................
Im glad i read comment first before continuing watching this. Because i have no idea how will my anxiety attack me after this
On a side note, I don't understand all the negative comments about her delivery. It seems fine to me. What is wrong with you people?
Alienart I totally agree
Alienart If people have a different opinion than you, there must be something wrong with them?
Alienart she doesn't sound natural
Alienart well you missed the idea and stuck to a part.
Alienart she's using "stress" and "anxiety" interchangeably and she's using the act of feeling anxious interchangeably with having a clinical diagnosis of an anxiety disorder, like Generalized Anxiety Disorder, which isn't true. They're very different
The mindfulness exercises in the book '30 Days to Reduce Anxiety ' by Harper Daniels are really helpful.
She gave me anxiety about my anxiety
I suggest you try meditation or simply relaxing music. It's a simple way to reduce stress and anxiety. Meditation provides a soothing of the mind and helps to connect with yourself. Obviously, this does not prevent being followed by a health professional. However, I believe it's a good way to take care of yourself and make you feel better. I sincerely hope that you will find your means to fight your anxiety.
First sentence
I'm already anxious
Namaste
We can chant OM 108 times daily.
OM balances the energy body ( Sukshma Sarira ) and neutralizes lower frequencies like Anger, Hatred etc.
It calms a persons aura.
Thanks.
Having severe anxiety this helps and bothers me equally
Of course taking medication and exercise helps too along with relaxing deep breathing .
Amen
The mind.....is a powerful thing. Use it wisely.
You guys seek professional help! This is just a talk. You need medication and personal therapy. Please! I have Chronic Anxiety disorder. It sucks. Have it real bad right now. :( It's a stigma, and it's so hard to talk to people about it.:( Embarrassed. And by the way, her delivery is fine, remember, she has frickin anxiety disorder! gee
I went through a heartbreak so it made me a stronger individual overall!!
That’s worry, not anxiety
This gives me anxiety....goddammit
She has anxiety as well. :)
Me too 😄
Are there any videos on UA-cam that help with anxiety? I get it as soon as I wake up in the morning and know I have tasks to do during the day.
GENESSI hey check out The Anxiety Guy, he can help you actually heal and recover from anxiety, best of luck
You're watching one. Get those tasks out of the way early and pamper yourself for the rest of the day. There is no cure for anxiety, but Taking care of yourself is the best thing you can do.
Claire weekes ❤ look her up. A group on fb following will help so much.
@@priscillaridley2242 Thank you!
Change the title ..it can make lot of people anxious just by reading that. It's not a cancer. It's just nervous arousal and very much curable.
She gets paid for Marketing .. knows nothing on Anxiety!
15 minutes and 49 seconds that I will never see again...
So, this Ted talk purpose is to inform us that anxiety exists!? And a way to identify when it increases!? Ouch
That’s probably the worst title they could’ve picked knowing it’s gonna catch people with anxiety’s attention. Anything can make us anxious, including calling anxiety “the cancer of mind”
A bit of empaty about anxiety in your marketing
I also have anxiety..
but I don’t think it is social anxiety
I am not even sure whether it is anxiety or not
But I am so tired of this
I am just always anxious about being anxious
Especially when I go to sleep I start thinking about things that scare me, and I remember that I can be anxious and I immediately get anxious!
And even when I calm down I just realise that I calmed down and I get anxious again...
And when in comes to food even if I am hungry I can’t eat when I am anxious
Because when I am anxious I am also nauseous!
Even if I am eating normally without anxiety, the fact that I am not anxious comes to my mind and I start feeling anxious again...
And the weirdest part is that when I am outside or with my friends I can forget about it, and I feel less anxious then when I am alone.
It is so awful I think that I am going crazy 😭
Similar thing used to happen with when I was a child, but it happened just at night
And then it gradually disappeared
And now this happened to me again, but in a worse way...
Actually i told someone about this problem and she said:...only weak people goes to therapy and u don't have a willpower to cure anxiety.I also struggled with anxiety but never took anyone's help
What should i do now????
The best coping strategies for anxiety and mental issues are various kinds of meditation !
i think people have different way to do the presentation some use aggressive tone to make people interested or aroused and some just go with smooth tone i dont think agressive tone would fit this topic anyway she did quite good but in a bit unnatural manner that why people dont like it
SHE HAS ANXIETY! GEE!!!!
I hope everyone who had anxiety can manage it.
René Henriksen thank you
She clearly doesn’t understand anxiety. Smh. Her ignorance to this topic is giving me anxiety
Good talk though, gonna finish watching
how is this going to help me with my fucking anxiety?
It's not to help you with anxiety it's to explain anxiety and the problems with finding and treating it
DiegoCivera it will educate people to understand your anxiety. That's priceless
Im out.. going surfing...
if your stressed which the 3 min of this video made me I suggest giving it a try
If you live in Alaska just meditate
pretty sure someone who has elevated stress levels can tell you they're stressed.... just saying
I broke my wrist hitting my table trying to get a 2 day long panic attack to end once. Yeah it’s definitely a cancer.
This video is good but it's making me very nervous and I can't stop shaking... it's 2 in the morning! Ahhhh! Ugh I'm freaking out!
thanks comments , now m not watching this video
This woman GETS me, and how it feels to have anxiety. She UNDERSTANDS it.
uniqueUsername_1024 I really don't think she understands anxiety but I'm glad you feel a connection
uniqueusername_1024 in NJ
Im the beginning when she was talking about the window being open during rain my first thought was to close it so there's no rain damage or flooding
Just follow some simple CBT techniques.Anxiety will be cured
Let's be honest - it's a bad Ted talk. Just marketing, it does not help in any way to People with anxiety. I reccomend Tim Box anxiety Ted talk, really helped me guys!
So I put this on and zoned out right away. Why is she yelling? Lol. She is like defining anxiety as if its some sort of norm that we can surpass with a simple click of our phones.
I read Dr. Claire Weeks book on anxiety and panic it was good.
Her voice is hard to listen to!
I've had agoraphobia w panic disorder n ptsd I just found my young healthy mom passed in my home now I have ptsd depression plus OCD I've tried everything literally only way to survive daily is god n medication
This talk gave me anxiety! Why did she scream the entire time?
Am I'm missing something? I was reading the comments and a lot of people comment how the speaker is stigmatizing and down playing their axienty which I did not pick up when watching the entire TED talk.
Just a side note. I've talked with many mental health professionals and they all agree with my hypothesis that every human suffers from some mental disorder. Something to keep in mind. It's a human problem.
Main problem is Social anxiety
i really love this! Thank you for sharing your story.
Useless
Talk... Anxiety can be cured and is not a major illness.. not to be called as cancer of mind
I also have anxiety orafter taking oziva sero D3 .it's finished my all symption but only you need to Focus on your breathing if symption come just listen to breath sound.. And relax or close eyes
Is this like overthinking and keeping all your hope and dream and your trap with no voice
What?? People suffering hard and you argue with money and how much expensive an anxious person is??? Really...
If I understood correctly, according to Aneysha Bhat, there is a test that can measure levels of anxiety and stress. Where can I get this test? Has this test been approved? I have debilitating anxiety that affects my everyday life.
that's lit..
I can tell you if I'm stressed, I don't need you to tell me with a device. She repeated herself like 10 times and rambled on and on.
A huge factor that contributes to anxiety is heavy metal toxicity in the body. No it’s not all “in the mind”.
God!!!!! If someone anxious watches this, they will have a even bigger panic attack
I cried like a fukin baby after watching this video...
Anxiety is just because of deficiency of minerals in body like magnesium, calcium zinc, potassium. In current world anxiety is looked as deadly disease whereas it is not.
@Chris Longden try Brahmi medicine it works good, along with Jatamansi if required.. I have controlled 95% of my anxiety
@Chris Longden Brahmi 2 times a day onr in morning and one at night
Hypnotherapy, but it's not covered by insurance!
Marketing using stressful scare tactics
This thing is going to quantify how anxious you are, & based on that Dr. is going to prescribe right amount & type of anxiety med??
Or did I miss something?
Her voice kills me
