- As the band YES were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in April 2017, each member of the band got to make a speech. The only one people are likely to remember is this one. You might also want to check out Yes playing Roundabout at the awards night, with Geddy Lee from Rush on bass taking the place of Chris Squire: • Yes Roundabout with Ge...

The best acceptance speech EVER. The other Rick , Gervais , would no doubt agree with every word Rick spoke. Classic.
This was the best speech: ua-cam.com/video/8hR02pDj-Ic/v-deo.html
One of the most genuinely witty and funny musicians in the music business . .Rick Wakeman's speeches are brilliant . .
Wakeman is hysterical; his timing is perfect. He was an absolute hoot on that brilliant show "Grumpy Old Men". They should re-broadcast that.
RW's musicianship is legendary, but his humor is genius!
Rick's so deadpan onstage, and he's a huge riot here. Very cool
Love this guy! 🙂
Rick's words of wisdom. His definition of fear vs panic: "Fear is the first time you can't do it the second time,. Panic is the second time you can't do it the first time."
Got sent here by The Dead Milkmen of all things. Glad I did, this was brilliant.
This is super hilarious! OMG, Rick Wakeman is a funny guy.
Brilliant musician and hands-down the MOST hilarious person in the world who's not a professional comedian!
He actually does stand up in England
That was totally impromptu as it was only at the last minute that Alan White told him to " liven it up" lol
Rick probably made more people check out YES than any advertising or promotions ever.
Rick W - one of the best standups... saw him at Henley festival and got a six pack laughing.
what did they say? haha
Rick is hysterically funny, as well as being one of my two favorite keyboardists.
+ Bee Kay Out of curiousity, who's the other one?
Likely Keith Emerson...
Or Jon Lord
Same, the other is Vangelis.
The whole sequence is much better as Jon Anderson starts by doing a proper Hollywood acceptance speech, thanking every member of his family and saying how much he loves the entire audience. The other members of Yes are fairly similar, praising the contribution of the absent Chris Squire. But it took Perivale’s Mr Grumpy to put a unique slant on the proceedings
This guy is hilarious, if he ever gives up music (god forbid) he has a future as a stand up comedian.
He already does stand up in the form of all those UK "grumpy" personna tv shows. Which by the way, are horribly un-funny.
vast wasteland
Can you please tell me what you're talking about because I'm having trouble following what you mean as I am not from the UK
@@gardensofthegods He does a form of Stand Up in THe UK , my friend :)
LOL....that speech should have been an extra $10 cover and a two drink minimum.
I almost didn't recognize him without the wizard cape. :D
my fave band and my keyboard hero, Rick, you are sooooo funny :) :)
Not only is this speech amazing, but Steve Howe's lack of amusement in the speech is hilarious as well lmao. You can tell that he was fuming during this haha. Fuck that guy. At least everyone else has a sense of humor and a little bit of happiness.
Yes, as much I love his guitar playing I think he is a total arse.
I agree, phuck Steve Howe (Golem).
Lmao Steve Howe at 3:15 he's contemplating how he's gonna kill wakeman without being found out
Best acceptance speech ever! lmfao
Trevor Rabin had to wipe his eyes from laughing...
Yes I think Wakeman "got his" on the R&R Hall of Fame, clearly decided a wake up call wouldn't hurt! Hilarious. I saw AWR this past Thursday Oct 5 in Albany NY and they were inspiring from start to finish. And also important to note there was no break during the show :-)
NickDuvet ...is that one of the best acceptance speeches ever or wot? .... Good ol' Blighty humour!
Ya, I heard him in an interview say that he usually hates acceptance speeches, so when he was nudged by a bandmate to "liven it up," he couldn't resist doing so.
Looking at Rick is like looking in a mirror for me! I wish I was as funny as him.
Brilliant! 😁
Best acceptance speech ever. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame sucks, yet it also sucked that it took so long to indict them. I think this was sort of an FU to the Hall of Fame. Time for Rick to move on to comedy clubs.
Rick has always been a natural comedian, His one man shows are a real scream.
I think Alex Lifeson and Rick both understand how important the Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah is.
john sullivan
I think you're absolutely right
Brazilian Atlantis
Kind of funny that you say that because when Chicago got inducted I remember thinking that the speech one of them made ( I can't remember which one ) but it gave me the impression he really thought they were the most important rock band ever of all time .
Indicted - formally accuse of or charge with a serious crime
Inducted - admit (someone) formally to a position or organization
Yes agree funny speech.
Not a bad comedy romp.Gotta love that Wakeman.
All those people laughing at him when he was baring his soul like that is so disrespectful.
They were laughing at his jokes, he was being funny, ofc they respect the wizard
Haha!! Well done! You matched any of his, I gotta say.
@@jonathonedwardmiller-- He knows that. And he's likely sorry his joke went over your head.
and his son Adam has his cutting wit as well
Now that's great news
That was totally impromptu as it was only at the last minute that Alan White told him to " liven it up" lol
YES UP THERE WITH RICKY
Totally of the cuff and unrehearsed as Alan White told him to liven it up at the last minute...lol
@@Isleofskye JUST DID THE PROSTATE JOKE TO AN 80 WOMAN OVER THE PHONE.HILARIOUS ,YOU SHOULD TRY IT
Thanks, peter. I will do that , my friend :)
The whole time, Alex was standing on the side going, "blah, blah, blah..."
Shambhala In Shambles
Interesting name. does it have anything to do with the Shambhala organization in Colorado
turned. Food Chain;Yeah,it was funny for a minute but it got too annoying.
If they induct Slipknot it's going to be a long night...
Dude could have been a comedian. R.I.P. Rick!
OOOps...Sorry, I am very glad that you aren't Dead, Rick!
Last time I checked he's not dead yet...
@@richardnewell7202 I know! I guess I was thinking about Chris!
😂❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😊
Rick is definitely permanently into that UK morning talk host comedy schtick mode. It was a little embarrassing in 1978 when he was on the extended Monty Python type kick mimicry, but this is almost worse. But hey, he likes the UK tv stuff he does, so is it any wonder he makes zero references at the Hall of Fame to his history with Yes. Just 2 quick thank-yous to the band. I had a recorded interview with him in 1972 which showed a Wakeman with detailed, valued opinions on his bandmates, a high degree of pride in being in the band, and a lot of information and observances on the band's work and individuals. And no fake comedy that day. IMO, that 1972 Rick would've provided a much more heartfelt and important set of statements at the Hall of Fame. Rather than Rick's warm up practice for his Comedy Club gig.
Seeing as how he's one of the greatest musicians in rock history, he doesn't really have to worry about what petty haters such such as yourself thinks. He entertained his audience, and I'm sure his bandmates respected that.
vast wasteland
I have a feeling the reason he did it was a statement somebody in a comment above made which was that this was his big F U to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for taking so long to induct YES.. and that in some ways Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is not as important as it thinks it is... I always knew there was a lot of politicking and then recently somebody involved with them said it's all politics with The Rock Roll Hall of Fame.
That's really great that you interviewed him way back when and I don't know if you have any access to that material... if you do, did you put it here on the internet ?
In response to being questioned about this speech, I heard him say that he has always hated acceptance speeches, and I'm guessing that knowing the others gave more serious speeches, he couldn't resist sending one up. What's wrong with that? People loved it.
Rick has had a lifelong dislike and distrust , as have I , for people who hand out awards as if they're important , fair and equitable , they're not , it's an excuse to polish the old boy network and Rick , nicely , told them so .
HERRLICH!
But prickishly self-absorbed in that Chris Squire’s widow was not able to speak as a result of how long he went on. And on. That’s a damn shame.
Embarrassing..
