ROSEMARY'S BABY (1968) MOVIE REACTION - TEARS FOR FARROW! *First Time Watching*

  • Clarifications/Disclaimer For those who are watching - I know the audio for the film was really low, I do this to avoid any copyright claims that I am bound to receive. Doing this helps sidestep the automatic system that UA-cam has in place. (Considering it (the system) claims audio faster than video.) Thank you and I hope you stick around even though I do this. At a later point, I will re-upload with louder audio for the film but if I am hit with a copyright strike I will have to go back to this method.

Hello there! I was debating with myself about whether to make this a two part reaction or not, I guess you can see by the length I chose to just release it as one LONG video. This is the longest video I've made on this channel and now with doing this a couple times I got the editing down to a nice little science.
I hope you enjoy it, I REALLY enjoyed this film. Rewatching through the edit I was catching a bunch of things that I didn't throughout the first time. I would even dare to say it got better on the second viewing.
I was supposed to see this film for the first time in film history class but I skipped class that day, couple years later and here's my reaction.
This is a really long video so please hit that Like, Subscribe, and Comment your favorite films or things you'd like me to take a look at! Thank you all for supporting and I once again, hope you enjoy!
Sorry for the stupid music, it helps keeping me from receiving a copyright claim, I really don't like adding it as much as you probably don't enjoy listening to it.

This is the BEST reaction to the movie Rosemary's Baby that I've seen. You stated that you started crying when they told her her baby is dead, but your eyes were watery before that. Obviously you were right in it with her, you'd put yourself in her place and saw and felt the horror of what she was going through. Something that the others whom I watched that did a reaction to this movie did not get.

Aww, thank you so much for the kind words. I like to think of myself as an empath and that moment/acting in that scene definitely affected me. Team rosemary all the way. What they put her through was truly horrific and I can't imagine the true pain of losing a baby (let alone to a cult) But I truly thank you for saying that :)

100% agree. A lot of people just get angry that she doesn't "leave"... with her... non existent credit card. In 1968. Even in the film itself, she keeps having to justify even taking money in the first place, much less explain to him where she's going and when.

The Dakota in NYC is where this movie was filmed. The same place John Lennon was killed 12 years later. A lot of history happened there.

Never underestimate the power of a Mother in shaping her young, She could emphasize Love and happiness even over the bad company.

I agree and don't underestimate that power, it's just that her son is the literal spawn of satan. It would have been an interesting sequel to see how she would go about making the son of the devil into a decent member of society.

It takes more than one viewing to catch all the foreshadowing that occurs earlier in the story, which initially either doesn't make sense or which you don't even notice.

Since this reaction, I've seen this film four times. It is such a great film and you're right, there seems to be a new detail I missed every watch-through.

I always felt ok at the end when I saw that she accepted her little devil spawn. I don’t know, as bad as the whole thing is, if she’s cool with it, I’m cool with it. Hahahhaha. Great movie, great reaction!

It's one of those films that you have to watch again to really let it sink in. It's unsettling and I freaking love that. Thank you for supporting the videos!

Seriously. I consider 'The Exorcist' my all time favorite horror film, but this has to be right there with it now. I just have to watch it again, and then again. There's so many things I feel got better on the second time watching (while editing)

This react was incredible. Your facial expressions in the final scene said all we needed to know about your feelings in those moments.
While Polanski did a great job with the cinematography and visuals, I would attribute the most credit to the original author. Polanski did a mostly very rigid interpretation. The social commentary of the story (bodily autonomy, etc) came from Ira Levin, the author.
Its also nice that you were able to contextualize this in the time period of 1968. It was much harder back then for a woman to not rely on her husband for financial support, as well as being believed. Dr Hill wasn't in on it- he just thought she was crazy. And called her husband. So much of that dread and terror is from seeing how she's been in this prison.

Wow, Thank you. I really need to read the original novel because this story hit me pretty hard (obviously)
See, I really thought Dr. Hill was a plant from this cult to keep her under their control. It makes sense because he seemed like he genuinely cared. That ending though.. Yeah it got me good.

Not sure anyone picked it up, in the book, in her dream she was on a boat with JFK. I think that might have been the guy with the glasses

Hey there, sorry, this video was among the ones I had to re-upload and make sure that they didn't get any copyright strikes so I kept the audio low. I also added some additional background music to make sure it was as within the copyright right law. I'm sorry and I hope I can fix this by October when I get back into the reaction series.

Separate art from the artist. Polanski's one of the greatest directors in history, from Repulsion to Rosemary's Baby to Chinatown to Bitter Moon to The Tenant to The Pianist to The Ghost Writer, any other director would sell HIS soul just to have 2 of those movies on their Filmography. And Hitchcock sure would.
Polanski never wanted to make a horror movie since he didn't believe in the Devil. But he DID believe in claustrophobia, since he lost nearly his entire family to the Nazis in the Holocaust. Trapped, like in The Pianist. Then he lost his very pregnant wife to the butchery of the Manson Family. And who did the tabloids blame? Polanski, because apparently according to the tabloids he conducted black masses during the filming of RB. And he sold his soul so RB would be successful. They HATED the 'hippie' director who would dare to make a movie that they said glorified Satan.
But Roman Polanski made a movie about paranoid claustrophobia. That's always been the true horror for him as a Holocaust Survivor. He wanted Rosemary's Baby to be un-super natural until the last scene. Until that scene you could argue that Rosemary WAS paranoid and hallucinating.
He also operated the only camera on Farrow as she crossed that busy street, which he didn't block off for filming. And the actor who went blind was voiced by Tony Curtis, a good friend of Farrow's. That odd look on her face while on the phone with him was real. Farrow wasn't told who it was until after the scene. She kept wondering why that voice seemed so familiar, she later said.
Polanski made a very disturbing movie free of cartoon horror. It paved the way for other talented directors (like Friedkin's Exorcist) to not turn their noses up at the genre, that you could take horror material and make a great film. Modern Horror that aspires to be more than gore and jump scares owes everything to Polanski's willingness to tackle Satanism with a straight face.
