Multiple calls received about fire in Hertfordshire
Large plumes of smoke can be seen for miles as the emergency services confirm they have been inundated by calls about a fire in Hertfordshire.
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service have said “Fire control have been dealing with a high volume of calls due to a large fire in the hitchin area. Fire Crews are currently tackling the blaze. any residents nearby are encouraged to close any windows due to the possibility of large amounts of smoke.”
The fire is belived to be in a scrap yard.
In a further update the fire service confirmed that they were being assisted by crews from Bedfordshire Fire and rescue Service. They have also said “We currently have six fire engines with an Aerial Ladder Platform and water bowser attending a large fire off Caldwell Lane near Hitchin.
