That's what I did with my Delano. Long shocked it. It handles everything my La Sal did and it actually feels more stable. This new La Sal looks to be a lot of bike and I'd bet it's overkill for 95% of trails I ride in Utah and Delano is a better all rounder.
You could flip the GA chip to the high setting which would shorten the wheelbase a bit and steepen the head tube angle. It also raises the BB which is helpful for SoMo. I run my Delano in the high setting and I love it.
Nice video, and a great combination of the spec and geo rundown, coupled with some riding, along with some changes that you immediately felt would improve the bike. It was a great "no filter" review, which is pretty rare with so many trumpeting the company mantra these days. I'm curious. 1 to 10 where would you rate the pedal efficiency of the long-stroked Delano? Where would you rate the La Sal by comparison 1-10? Just watching you ride it, it really looked to sink into the travel with your input, so I also wonder how it compares with regard to being playful and poppy. With that much travel, it would seem to be set up more to be a sled, stay planted, and just eat up the chunk. Would you say it's overkill for just about everything here in the Northwest Arkansas area? I get the impression that you would tend to lean that way, and this bike would be more for Angel Fire type of terrain, or mayyyyyyybe BOC.
Hey Charles! Thanks for the feedback. I've tried to be without filter and give more my impressions than a review per se. It's always struck me a bit odd that people who don't ride what would be considered empirically well say a bike isn't good. As for your questions: 1) the Delano is an 8 within the context of trail bikes with similar travel. The long stroke X2 improved the pedaling of that bike significantly in my opinion. The La Sal is more like a 6 I'd say. However, I think that can be improved a bit with a more purposeful setup. I'll have mine in a month or so and I'll make the changes I mentioned and then do some more riding. It's certainly overkill for most of NWA. I'll try to get it out to Leatherwood and BOC to see how it does there.
Great vid! Looking forward to the long term review. Curious on your thoughts on climbing/pedaling after the changes on your second ride. I’ve got a long shocked Delano and every now at then I’m wishing it had a bit more travel. Thinking of going La Sal 2.0 but don’t want to sacrifice a ton on the climbing/pedaling.
Hey Kameron! The long Delano climbs better without a doubt. I think it's relative to where you're riding. The La Sal is certainly more capable, but that manifests in a bike that isn't quite as playful and supportive as the Delano. I'd say stick with the Delano if that desire for more travel is infrequent.
It doesn’t matter what you guys do on you tube. It is all relative to the size of your steeple. What I mean is you guys kick azzz I want to do one of your clinics so badly. Maybe for my birthday 🥳
The new La Sal Peak looks sick! But I'm kinda bummed because the previous gen was on my short list of new bikes to choose from. From the reviews on it it seemed more like a long travel trail bike vs full on Enduro rig. Oh well the list just got a little shorter until I get to that level of riding!!! If I ever do 😅
Hey Roger! I'm not expert when it comes to bike/suspension setup. I think it's important to make that statement. I feel too many reviewers make claims about kinematics and engineering that they aren't qualified to make. Just trying to make sure I create context for what's in the video.
Great first impressions. Tempting as these new bikes are, I'm just going to long shock my Delano and call it a day.
Nothing wrong with that, I love my Delano setup that way.
I love my long shocked Delano with a 160 fork.

I am dieing for a Fezzari demo in Bentonville so I can try out the La Sal! I have some friends with the Delano and they love it!

LOL. I made this comment before it was over. Glad you made that change.
I'm not convinced. Rich Drew can make those jumps look easy on a kids tricycle.
Climbing National! Nice! So tough!
Pumped to hear your initial thoughts on this and looking forward to hearing your long term feedback!
New school guys use a bidet…just saying Rich, gotta sit for that one, plus its green…good fit for sitters.
lol that thumbnail clickbated me dirty!! thought it was a review from another channel
Lol I thought it was freehub magazine at first glance.
Oh, so our review isn't good enough??? What channel did you think it was from?
I love my LaSal... and it works great for me and the riding I do. With that said... if I was to buy a new one tomorrow, it would prob be the Delano.
Right on!
Hey my bike is your thumbnail 😛 Great video.

@@richdrewtherideseries ...Thanks for the reply!
Sounds so unbelievably plush 🤌🏼😎
First reports on the individual internal cable tubes make this bike really quiet. Plus super easy to route cables.

Interesting stuff. Bike has been on my shortlist (and in my cart at Fezzari) for a while now. :) For context, how tall are you Rich?
I'm starting to really dig fezzari. I think my next bike will be a Delano
What spring weight does Tyler have on his EXT shock?
a million pounds I think ;) I'm not sure, I'll check with him.

You can always put a longer stroke shock on the Delano to get 142mm travel out of the rear.
That's definitely my replacement for the outgoing la sal
That's a solid choice! ;)
Sounds like it's basically a single crown downhill bike haha
What do you mean you’re no expert? 😜 If your not, who is?
No kidding
