Just found Ur channel and subscribed 2 both of them. I have certainly learned a lot from watching U on fixing Drywall and I'm very grateful. My house was built in the early 1940's and unfortunately I wasn't able 2do everything I wanted 2 bring it up 2 date. I know this video is a yr old, but after seeing U remove the old insulation, destroyed by rodents, insects and who knows whatever else? I now know exactly what I would find if I tore down ceilings and walls and all I can say is U have made it clear to me that I need to get out of this house asap. So? My procrastination is now over. I deeply thank you for this. I'm so glad I found Ur channel.

me and my dad are renovating his 1906 house. His add on bathroom, guessing 1950-60 addition. Structure is all off, they put insulation in the roof but not the wall and used 2x2 boards to separate the bedroom closet and the bathroom, they fixed the cast iron sewer lines with barb wires and duct tape. With budget restrictions, we are working with what we have and going from there. Its for sale to any renter right now basically. If Jeff worked on my dads bathroom, hed probably just say tear the whole addition off and start over.

I filled an 8gal shop vac dust bag with mouse feces.. just over my wood kitchen ceiling’s drop ceiling! 🤷🏽‍♀️ grow room at one time.. no clue the thought process behind the 7’ kitchen that opens to 20’ living room cathedral! In other words, why didn’t you apply the Green Glue directly on the metal track and then press the drywall into it? Cheers!

Great video, I was curious about barn board. I have never seen it on a ceiling before but I have seen it on the walls going all the way up to the roof.
I am wondering what it was for and if it has any structural value to it? If you want to remove it to put in insulation is any more structural support needed to replace it?

I’d love to know what brand of mask PPE and filter was used? I’m a slender female and unfortunately this home is much like my own that, I am still awake after pulling an all nighter to plug up the many HOLES in the house - HUGE ones around drain pipes, cable between rooms from long ago, and massive holes behind the hot water heater….which all connects to the disgusting walls which connect to the disgusting narrow attack filled with mice and bugs! I only found this 3 x 4 ft hole behind the hot water tank 3 days ago when trying to figure plug up all the open seams of ceiling and walls in the water closet, because it literally has been an OVEN in the bathroom! And the wall also has dry rot at the base that has expanded into my daughter’s bedroom! When I saw the MASSIVE holes behind the water heater I was a little ticked at my husband I have to admit because I’m pretty sure he put in the water heater and hooked it up to the other water heater over 15 yrs ago when we converted our duplex to single family! He said he was trying to do it fast because it was supposed to be “temporary”. I need to let go of being upset every time I’m shocked at what I find and just keep DOING! It’s a health risk to our family and I work really hard to keep things very clean but it is so difficult when there are so many exposures to the walls w all that gross old insulation that comes crumbling down or out of the holes, and I’m so tired of cleaning mouse poop off shelves and out of drawers and sanitizing everything! Makes a lot of all nighters for me! Thought I was making great headway on plugging up holes until I found that water heater! Gonna be hard for me to get back there but I think hubby has agreed to start taking out the decaying walls so we can see better what might be causing the dry rot! Too bad it’s so much work because hubby thinks we might be able to build our new house here in one year or less. But I just can’t stand living in a “mouse Highway”! Anyway I need to get a better fitting mask like that young man had on that fits nice and snug!
One question Jeff besides mask type:
Should tile have some kind of expanding water proof caulking between the edge of the tile and the dry wall areas?? I think it is really gross how all kind of stuff easily gets in between floor trim and tile / wood / or laminate floors….or even BEHIND the trim because tops of trim aren’t sealed and because they are the particle board type “wood” trim, it bows out from the wall if different places with time - which I think is his reason for not filling the trim tops of bottoms with anything, since then it may crack. But having the spaces to harbor dirt pet hair, fleas, dust mites, whatever, is worse in my mind then potentially risking a few cracks here and there which could be repaired most likely. Pest infestation is much harder to control and get rid of, especially for chemically sensitive people like my kids and myself, then dealing with repair for a few cracks along floor boards!
I asked my husband if normally these places get sealed and he said no? We have been renovating a 4 plex next door and made it look nice but there is nothing between the engineered wood and floor trim, nor at the top.
He says you shouldn’t put anything there because the floor “has to move”.
But I think the expanding stuff is maybe what we should be using? I actually added part of it next door myself using some product Jeff recommended for some other show.
But unfortunately I could not do much of it except where the dish washer was going to go because the majority of all the new, hardwood kitchen cabinets, as well as the new floor, were/was already installed by hubby - only w just empty space between wood floors and the exterior wall of the kitchen, and no fill.
So basically the floor dips down slightly there and there were spiders in there in the one I filled!
Wish I could have pulled out the others but it was too late! I didn’t get to any of the interior walls either but I probably could ask the tenants if it would be OK for me to do that. He just moved in last month and is very nice and understands that we weren’t able to finish every little thing because he had to move in urgently due to him having cancer and his son living in the next unit over.
But I won’t do it if Jeff doesn’t think that something that people normally do. What IS the norm?
Is this really “common” to not seal that w anything??? Doesn’t seem right to me. But I’m the picky OCD one and ex engineer (chemical, not civil like my dad was…unfortunately he passed on when I was 10 yrs old). I “retired” from engineering and now full time mom of a boy and girl! 🤓 💙💖
