I'm a huge fan of "Steely Dan" But I've never really learned how to add that touch of jazz to my playing. It's cool that you got to jam with one of the Keyboard players. I had to subscribe when you starter talking about Walter's playing. A lot of people forget to mention him but they usually remember Elliot Randell and Larry Carlton.
Big Steely Dan fan for many years. I’ve also played (wrestled with) guitar for 30+ year. Was a stunning revelation to discover that Walter’s playing (in particular his phrasing) influenced my approach as profoundly as it does. Nice content, Jon. Thanks!
What a great lesson. I subscribed to Jon's official website. Here I was able to download the PDF file for these examples. I've been a member of Jon's site for several years, and it's worth the small investment.
I started playing at age 10 .I'm now 61.If I worked at it like you John I might be good ... I just mucked around playing only what I knew, never expanding any knowledge.. Last year I decided to practice new stuff learning the fretboard, improving my imprecise technique and getting tips on playing from your videos.I admire you playing style and how clean and bright you make the instrument sing.. Thank you for inspiring me to be better

So if you had a person who was the best at working on martins ...you would have a martin Luthair king!?.
I can't name a steely Dan song but ...do you know what it was? Steely Dan?
Yep. Comes from the name of a er “character” in William Burroughs’ novel, “Naked Lunch”; “Steely Dan’s Yokohama”, a er pleasure toy.
