I can’t believe this worked - had a new key made ($650!) and BMW said it would cost $200 to program and I’d have to tow the car to their shop. This worked perfectly - thank you guys!!!
This didn't work for my 2018 manual transmission 340, but after some trial and error based on comments in this thread, I was able to get it. Here's what I did that worked: (1) placed working key far away from car so only the new key was present (2) while ONLY PRESSING IN CLUTCH, held start button for a few seconds until the notification came on dash to hold key up to sensor (3) while still keeping clutch depressed and holding start button, held top of the key against the sensor.
Where you put original key then ? Nobody inform that original old key should be in the car or not. Everyone grab thee key and programmed it. Is that possible without original key?

The frequency of the key you need to purchase for your 2016 F22 (218i) depends on the region where the vehicle was originally sold. In general, North America uses 315MHz, Europe and Asia use 433MHz, while some countries use 868MHz. I always program with 315mhz and I live in usa.--- High Security Automotive locksmith---
Is there a way to reprogram my second key to be recognised by immobilizer? Key was working fine but i tried to take radio out by bit of force and the key stopped working. I have other key that only locks car manualy. And the button on starting key doesnt work.
Nice video. I have a 2012 F11 were it says "low battery" and when I put in a new 3V lithium battery it takes about 2-3 month and it says "low battery" again. I've checked it and it's ~3.6V on both the old and new battery and it's the same with both fobs and I can most of the times unlock the car from 20 yards. I still use them but sometimes it says "no key" and I can't start unless I lock and unlock a couple of times and sometimes hold the key to the steering column and then it starts but it always says low battery and it has been like this for 5 years. I will try your way and see if it works but I have to wait one month since I'm not at home. If it works I'll get back and say so.

Rob Fleps I would recommend trying this process first then trying it with the doors after repeatedly locking and unlocking with the fob outside of the car. If that fails then yes seek dealer to program doors for comfort access.
This does not work for my BMW M235i 😭 bought the car and the dealer couldn’t find the spare so they ordered me a new one. Tried this and it doesn’t work. Anything I’m missing here? 😫

This is the ONLY post I have seen thsat advises hold "start" and "Lock" at same time and then go to column. It works! Started 5 or 6 times. ALL FUNCTIIONS work. I have been trying this for one year . EXCELLENT THANK YOU! Display actuially says "Updating key" Gave audio signal in about 3 seconds.. My dealer advised only could be programmed by BMW $140.00 and takes an hour..NOT TRUE

No, FOB from another car will not work unless it's refreshed with $600+ tool and programmed to your car.
How to do this with e60 from 2004 with old diamond shape key? The regular guides are all for older models, but not for e60 :(

FEM cannot be programmed in your drive way like older BMWs with CAS. Need dealer or professional tools set.
Only thing is I have comfort access touch control for the doors and trunk so do I still have to go to the Dealer for the $180 ?
