  • Where to dive in Lake Tahoe. Diving in the waters of Lake Tahoe, California 8/29/19. Hurricane Bay is located just outside Tahoe City. I had heard of a sunken sailboat that divers would visit and leave different cool stuff. We found the sunken sailboat and it had a few cool surprises. Check out the video to see the surprises we found. Great dive spot and good parking. The sailboat is sitting on its side at about 68 feet. We hit a thermocline at about 57 feet - BURR! #laketahoe #scubadiving #tahoelife #wreckdiving #scuba #tahoe #f48films #hurricanebay

Jesse Pinkman yup! Thanks for asking. We did our open water dives at Meeks Bay, Tahoe. One of the coolest experiences I ever had. Can’t wait to continue learning and diving.

So we’re just going to ignore that that shoe looked like it had a human foot in it?

I think most sunken boats in inland lakes are intentionally sunk. And the majority are sunk illegally. The ones sunk with the correct permits are prepped for it.

What was the water temp during this dive?

The Lake was about 63f at the top. As we descended it changed in a big way quickly a thermocline around 43f. This is from memory so the numbers could be a bit off. Although I can tell you be prepared for the dive to start out cold and get extremely cold just a few feet below the surface.

F48 FILMS ok thanks- I figured it would be pretty cold!! I’m a new diver and haven’t quite got used to a hood yet, so I think I’ll wait! ;-) does the water warm up in September and October or does it stay the same temp usually?

Michelle C It warms up a bit but you definitely want to be in full gear with a hood even at its warmest time of year it’s cold a few feet down.

The thermocline at Lake Tahoe is at its deepest in September and October. In June it’s right below the surface. In February it IS the surface!
