SHOIGU, Russia's Defense Minister "SACKED"!? WHY? Implications!?

  • Vladimir Putin has made a significant reshuffle in the Russian government by appointing Andrey Belousov, a career economist and former economic aide, as the new Defense Minister, replacing the long-serving Sergei Shoigu. This change comes shortly after Putin was inaugurated for a fifth term. Belousov's appointment signals a shift towards strengthening Russia's war economy amidst the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Shoigu, who faced criticism and was linked to a corruption scandal involving former deputy defense minister Timur Ivanov, a key Shoigu aide, has been demoted to head the Security Council, a position seen as less influential. This reshuffle, the largest since 2020, emphasizes Putin's focus on exerting more control over military operations and the military-industrial complex as pivotal to Russia's economy.

Apparently the minister of defense in Russia is almost exclusively concerned with procurement and production of war material. A old school quartermaster if you will. And those of you who know your history know quartermasters were the first Staff Generals in history. This is why Shoigu was constantly seen touring factories. So that's why the new guy makes sense. He's one of their bigwig economists. Economists btw have probably done more than anyone but the infantry solider to win this war for Russia.

He wanted to retire for a long time now. Same as Lavrov. The fact that he is transferred to some other post is just a compromise, they just let him have a less demanding post, to have his experience and skill available when necessary. Don't forget that he was placed in charge of the ministry in 2012 for the single purpose of fighting corruption and restructuring the whole army and the entire defense industry. In this he has been very successful (as evidenced by the events of the last two years). It was very tiring for him though and he wanted to retire for quite some time now.

Shoigu has a much more intimate knowledge of the Russian military position than Patrushev who he is replacing as Secretary of Security Council. Shoigu is freely available to leave the country and talk face to face with any nations leaders or ministers that Putin wants special messages delivered to. With the pace of the Russian summer offensive about to kick into high gear, Putin no doubt wants the best people where they can do the most good. I don't see this as a demotion but more of a strategic personal move.

The choice of the current defense minister is unexpected, but after Nabiullina’s success, Putin began to trust technocrats and economists more. If the rumors about Belousov's effectiveness are true, this is very good news for the Russian side.

Prigozhin acted out that drama, what was it, 2 days after a western propaganda piece about Russia running out of ammo and everyone rebelling against Moscow and whatever.
Also, at the same time, Wagner was getting HALF the entire Russian deliveries of ammunition.
Also, outside in the real world, total Russian losses in Bakhmut was around 8 thousand KIA.
While Ukraine lost at least 73 thousand KIAs.

    • @DIREWOLFx75
      @DIREWOLFx75 16 днів тому

@@m0nlo "Its still unclear what happened there then. It could have been just Prigozhins PR things or they could have had some situational lack of shell."
How can you call it unclear?
Prigozhin was literally taking his cues for his rants from the western propaganda. Every time there was a new article about something being wrong with Russia or Russian military or in Bakhmut from their side, Prigozhin made a big production video about it.
Even when the subject had already been completely debunked as false propaganda from the west.
And then, just as the US military "found"("accounting error", lol) another billion to send to Ukraine, Prigozhin does his "rebellion" after some unspecified contacts with USA, despite having FSB people next to him every hour of the day.
And for a day, EVERYWHERE in the western massmedia, Wagner are HEROIC HEROES STANDING UP TO THE EVIL DICTATOR PUTIN!
      *lol*
And the next day, Russian security forces catches TWO CIA networks, one in Belarus and one in Russia. Because they gave themselves away when they tried to ride high on the "rebellion" and start acting to commit a coup in both Russia and Belarus.
And then Prigozhin, who WAS NEVER THE LEADER OF WAGNER in any way shape or form. He was the figurehead, the contract negotiator.
Then he promptly ended his little skit.
And suddenly he was the devil incarnate and Wagner was once more the scum of the Earth in western propaganda.
Already while he was doing his rants i found them very perplexing, because several times, he brought up subjects that we literally KNEW were fake. But with the "rebellion" and especially the CIA networks getting arrested, it quickly became clear that this was a sting operation.
      Wagner never rebelled.
Prigozhin was probably never even the slightest actually at odds with Kremlin.
And most likely, his death was accidental. As the last video he did, in front of his airplane, you could hear small arms ammo popping off, which can happen if they've been poorly stored on an aircraft, and can cause much nastier events to happen.
2nd most likely by far is that the west killed him for breaking whatever deal he pretended to make with USA and then reneged on, or maybe even just to get someone the west could point fingers at and scream about evil Putin killing people again, which he quite frankly doesn't do.

It's more of a promotion than a layoff. The Security Council is de facto the highest authority in Russia, Putin's inner circle, but the amount of daily work and personal responsibility there is less than in the hellishly demanding position of Defense Minister. Shoigu personally deserves a rest, and it is a politically smart move, because for many years in the large system of the Ministry of Defense, he may have acquired personal connections that prevent him from treating some parts of the work with the greatest efficiency. It is Putin's style to change the leadership of the most complex state monopolies and industries every few years, often after the replacement of the leadership they became more efficient, such as Russian Railways. The new guy, considered almost an economic genius, was a scientist before his civil service, who has already reformed several state systems for the better, and his appointment simply shows that Russia is moving to long-term military-economic rails, since the new defense minister is now required to have such qualities as forming an economic strategy, the ability to coordinate and reform the work of the state with hundreds, if not thousands of enterprises in the military industry. Military operations are still managed by the General Staff, so from the point of view of the DPA and the picture on the battlefield, the changes in the leadership of the Defense Ministry will not make any changes. Only in a few years it will be possible to judge the results of Belousov's activity, according to the change in the quantity-quality of national development and production of armaments.

It's wellknown that Shoigu wanted to retire after the PREVIOUS presidential election, but Putin convinced him to stay on another term.
Giving him a less straining position lets Putin keep him around, as he's been VERY valuable and effective, while letting him take a breather in a position with far less stress.
And it would have been more surprising if there had been NO changes at all.

Well this is the same thing. Putin is looking at that massive flank that wasn’t being exploited for a year now. Sacks the guy in charge and suddenly that flank is active again.

I don't believe the Kharkov front made sense before now. It was necessary to let Ukr dig in and get comfortable on the other three front then once they become static over a year you rush in and it severely disturbs all of their plans and vain machinations

I would say his major failure was the low efficiency of the Russian professional force modeled along the US Army, which was structurally destroyed in 2022.
The transformation into a conscript-like mass army of different forces like the professional and conscript Army, Wagner mercenaries and various militias might have been attributed by Putin to Gerassimov and other background bureaucrats.

There’s only one reasonable explanation: Putin “promoted” him because the war against Ukraine isn’t going well. This happens in the military all the time. They “promote” the guy into an administrative position because he’s not doing well in a combat command role. You don’t fire a general in the middle of a battle if he’s winning and soldiers have confidence in him. We’ll have to see if his successor can do a better job.

More interesting is the promotion of Belousev, an economic manager, to head the MoD. Surely the intention is to ensure that industry and military are working together more effectively. Shoigu has been moved sideways in what in power terms is a demotion. Putin is intensely loyal to people whom he thinks have done their best and served him loyally. Shoigu falls into this category.

If you understand the Election system in Russia you'll know exactly what's going on. When a new election happens ALL major positions in government enter their resignation as part of the process.
Shoigu wanted to retire... the position he's been given is a retirement position, less hard work and more than a ceremonial position.
On the day of Putin's inauguration it was explained as part of the ceremony the way the election system works.
Another that wanted to resign and retire was Lavrov. However he is staying on as he was asked to stay by Putin as he is extremely good at Foreign Diplomacy.
So nothing to see here... it's all good.

One of Russia's main problems is that Putin doesn't trust many competent people, they are a threat to him. So he puts incompetent friends or friends that are promoted above their skills into positions of power. Except for Medvedev, that guy is seriously skilled in administration and organization. This move really doesn't change much, other than maybe the battlefield commanders will get more regional control, less micromanagement from above. Which would be a good thing, imo.

Garassimov and Shitgu fubar'd Russia's prosecution of the war in Ukraine for over 2 years. The "reassignment" of Shitgu is a position that is a position without any responsibility or ability to damage the country anymore. It's like a promotion to a job that is meaningless if you can't just fire his arse. "Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer."
The defense of Shitgu being a man with ZERO military experience (he was a real estate magnate) was that he would keep costs down, which proved to not be the case, ballooning the defense spending of Russia to 6.6% of their GDP... Or put less ambiguously: too much corruption and money missing...

To me, replacing the the Defense minister with an economist, indicate that the Russian commanders below Shoigu have massed enough experience (and trust) for the Russian MoD to let operate a bit more independently.
It also strongly suggest to me that the Ruskies aren't planning any big operation requiring the top to be experienced military personnel.
Ofc, one can always speculate maskirovka, but when done one the top level, there's lots of serious risks taking a strategy of deception to a conspiratorial degree.
I think Prighozin is the cautionary tale that suggests that Putin isn't in a position, or at least not super-certain that shuffling for the sake of maskirovka, without seriously risking his own position.
But Shoigu has been ethnically cleansed from his position, so maybe he'll be genocided like Prighozin, while economists colonize the military.

Idk, but TASS reprted 4 years ago Shoigu wanted to be shuffled by Putin, but alas Putin kept him in place. He is not an Siloviki when he was appointed by Putin to lead his army, many high ranking officers questioned his ability due to his nonmilitary background as Minister of Emergency Situation or EMERCOM.

Prigojine... rather opposition relatively to Sudan... The Emirati and Prigojine supporting Dagalo ( Prigojine taking huge quantities of gold) , while Egypt and Saudi-Arabia did support Al Burhan. The trouble with Prigojne and the war in Sudan started in 24 hours after the arrest of Prigojines' man , carrying the gold to the plane..., It was illegal export... "authorised " since long as Dagalo and Al Burhan were complices... But the tensions between Al Burhan and Dagalo became serious, concerning the position of the RSF relatively to the Army... Prigojine thought he could give orders on matters of international strategy to Putine, and as Putine did not respect his buty even,..

  • @ayoorchethan

You're right there. Shoigu was replaced as the corporate/oligarch interests boiled over, just like the Prigozhin time. War is a racket 😂 Everyone wants to make money and being denied coz of favouritism cooked their brains, hence the outrage. The President needs all hands on deck, so a small accommodation has been made. This comes after a General incharge of logistics was fired, dy defence was jailed etc .and also some murmur from the front about logistics. Strange, given how their system is "everything in advamce" 😂 Could it explain the longer duration of regroup of froces at key fronts? Dunno. But, as Saul would say, "Its all good, man!"
