Arena Essex has always been a hard hitting track. There has been some great wars taken place on that track. I've heard it's closing that's a bad thing for the banger world.
@@andrebartels1690 The reason was all down to money. The circuit was sold at the end of the 2017 season and when it was realised by the promoter that it was still losing money, they decided in August 2018 that the circuit would close after the last meeting, the Firecracker. They then had until the end of November or thereabouts to vacate everything. The site is likely to be left unused for the next couple of years then the current owner intends to develop it for housing. There was a single event in 2019 when the former lapscorer and wife of the former Clerk of the Course received a final lap of honour before her funeral (no, I did not attend, I couldn't get down there that day) but as far as racing at Arena Essex goes, that's it, I'm afraid. I spent about 30 years involved with the circuit (um, in case you don't know, I'm the one that wrote the program blurb from 1995 until the site closed and provided a few of the photos too) and it has been odd not going there this year though I've been a spectator at a few meetings at other tracks, most recently a banger meeting at Adrian Flux Arena in King's Lynn but Arena Essex is sorely missed by me at least and no doubt by many others. - CJ, Crashnet.
@@mistie710 early to mid 2000's was a great era, still plenty of mk twos left and the non ford team meetings once a month was great at arena essex, even the domestic scene was top notch action every weekend. Banger racing has lost its mojo now in my opinion, there is still some good meetings at various tracks but even they can sometimes be a let down. The domestic scene on most tracks is not worth going to unless you are racing yourself with all the rookie bangers and back to basics type events, all good like I said if you are involved somehow, but pretty boring to watch, but I spose we all got spoiled with all the great meetings years ago, they'll never be as good as they used to be. The lack of smaller rear wheel drive cars and the price and availability of unlimited bangers has killed the sport, as well as a lot of the tracks closing down and health and safety must effect the price of insurance for some of the smaller tracks. It's becoming a nightmare for banger racing to survive in the near future. Sad times I'm afraid😥
not really, they would have been mk1 coupe's that if you was restoring them they would need to be re-shelled and you would find a better shell any way, rather than pay to restore the one you had. they woulda only sat around and eventually been sweeped up because of rust and thrown away. the rest of the parts of the cars raced here would have been sold on to help restore other cars. engines axles and gearboxes are still fairly easy to get hold of anyway. I must admit I have seen a couple in the past that really shouldn't have been raced but generally the ones raced nobody wants, they are fucked.
It makes them happy, in the knowledge that they're giving the fans what they want...Nothing gives the average 'wrecker' more pleasure than giving their target a good 'seeing to', watching their 'victim' emerge unscathed and shaking hands with them in mutual respect and the spirit of the sport.
There are a few reasons why. First, it stops the other car from racing any further. In solo racing it can depend on whether they can get running again as to whether that does them any good but in team racing it can help your team mates by giving them one less opponent to worry about. Second, if you are an imaginative wrecker, it can make you a name or at least give you a reputation that could be useful. In some events, it can even get awards! Thirdly, it's fun! While people appreciate a winner, many also appreciate a good hit, whether they are giving, receiving or watching!
The drivers side is protected by a door plate, and the cars are also fitted with a h-frame to stop the roof and sides caving in around the drivers area
You would be surprised how bad a car is when it leaves the track and they get them back up and running for another race that day. Even cars that have been folded up get stretched out on the back of a lorry and is back out later on that day. There are some skilled mechanics in the pits of these tracks.
deez7878 The safety inside is second to none, and in all my years of driving bangers I’ve never been seriously hurt. A few headaches and sore limbs but never hospital. It’s scary the first few hits, but once you realise how safe you are, it’s already in your blood. Loved every second of my banger racing days
@@FosterVideos Do these driver get paid for this? How many races do they do? From what I know of whiplash, it stays with you for the rest of your life causing pain and suffering. High price to pay for the pleasure of wrecking some cars.
@@mamoladk The drivers don't get paid to race no but most races have a small amount of prize money up for grabs, the drivers race for their enjoyment rather than to make money. And as for the whiplash, many drivers live with injuries from banger racing but I guess they see it as a small price to pay for doing something they love. Many drivers race with HANS devices now which reduces the chance of whiplash too
I been in half a dozen US DEMOLITION Derby's but I don't get why these guys finish their own car off on a car that's already disabled? Why end your own day on a car that's already done?
Losing this speedway track is such a tragedy! The Hammers raced here from 1984 to 2018 when the stadium was sold off to developers after being on the list for a compulsory purchase order by the government. They want to build 2500 homes here, without any compensation for the speedway team to find a new home. Also, losing the motocross track, stock cars/bangers and the go-kart circuit too makes it even more tragic! :(. You can help protest the redevelopment of Arena Essex and join the fight for a new stadium by visiting thurrockhammers.com and following the link to a petition and objection letters. Thanks
What is the goal here? To win the race? Or to see if you can total your car the fastest by aiming for cars that are already wrecked?? I dont get it...cool to watch tho
Do they purposely run into another car knowing full well that their car will not survive the crash? Why would you intentionally run into a car that is already disabled?
Brings back a lot of good memories great to see happy days hope they stay 😁
Glad you enjoyed it!

With some of the teams welding cars stronger than tanks it is a surprise that no-one gets badly hurt.

Is the reason they close because there are no more Granadas left? It hurts me to see those 40 year old mk1 veterans being treated like firewood...

A video that I truly care about. Thats rare. Congrats my dude. Lmao.
Thank you Danny that means a lot
It was carnage and I loved it.
RIP all those Cortinas! Not gonna lie, makes me sad.
Only thing a cortina is good for XD. Smash it up and melt it into a washing machine !
Pete c on UA-cam must be in tears😂
Micras and Corsas much harder than old Granadas and Cortinas
Mint crashes 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
The nuts great video!
Thanks Mick
I’ve spotted two Mk1 Granada coupe’s....so sad.

Some of these paint jobs are nicely painted it’s sad to see them get destroyed
How does this work , is it actually a race ? Is there a winner at the end or is it last man standing?
Mixture of races and demolition derbies, but many drivers prefer to wreck each other rather than racing
Foster Videos my god that’s amazing
Foster Videos thank you for the reply
andy kane it’s a race that u can crash in
Just use a Ford crown Vic with a front and rear brush guard that thing would be perfect
Why do they just pile in the back like that? What benefit does it do them?

old cars ....its all there fit for save a lot of sunday driving going over careful to look after their "classic "bits of tin
That limo hit was btutal
no kidding, a bit more power an i think he would have driven straight through.
1:16 the yellow car D: he got squished
What model is yellow car number 55 "Suicide Squad" at 1:26 please ?
Mk2 Granada

shame to see all them restorable classics being wrecked................na only kidding

Do these cars need roll cages/harnesses
Yea they have a special H frame and harness

I've done this, once your adrenaline kicks in, you just into tunnel vision, must destroy cars, it's so much fun seriously.

What the hell is going on? Lmfao
I HATE IT WHEN THEY USE CLASSICS
Whats with the massive driver door hit at the start..
Naughty
left hand drive wasnt it ? probably didnt realise when he hit him as would be used to driver being on other side.
Why do they use Volvos and Granadas? looks like they're made of cheese!
Volvos are readily available and cheap to build but most of the Granadas were used for Granada-only meetings
I like watching bangers but why the flip would anyone set foot inside one is beyond me!
