  • With Stringify going away, you may be looking for another app for automating your SmartThings hub. In this video, I’ll explain webCoRE and how to get started with creating pistons to fine-tune your home automation.
    WebCoRE can also send and receive IFTTT commands. I’ll show you the basics for getting started as I automate my own lights with motion sensors.

      Woohoo! Finally got webCoRE installed. Had a little bit of an issue getting to show on the SmartThings Classic app since I started with a Samsung account first instead of a ST. Had to log out of the ST classic app on my phone and remove my Samsung account from my phone, then log into the SmartThings website with my Samsung account, reinstall webCoRE, then log back into the ST classic app... and wahala, it worked! A huge thanks to Robin Winbourne and his video on how to install webCoRE!

    What response times do people experience with WebCore? I had a button hooked up to a light bulb and the response could be anything from 3 to 10 seconds... Was there something I was missing? In the end I just ended up creating my own SmartApp directly on my hub where response is mostly instantaneous.

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy 5 років тому +1

      For the most part, all of my pistons (even the more complex ones) are pretty much instant. From time to time I do see a delay with more complex (double tap turn on or off 5 different lights) but that happens very rarely.

    • @SantaClaus3000
      @SantaClaus3000 5 років тому

      That's interesting, maybe it was the double clicking then. I have 2 Xiaomi Mijia buttons which I have hooked up to switch on 3 different lights independently - one click for one light, 2 for another, 3 for a third. But it also did a switch off of the other lights so if you click twice, light 2 switches on, 1 and 3 switch off. Maybe it's a bit complex for WebCore (although it doesn't feel complex to me).

    Could I make the SmartThings Presence Sensor do something like this with Web Core?
    If I am away from home and return between 12am - 6am turn lights on?
    Currently this doesn’t really seem to work using automation because the sensor picks up that I’ve arrived after 12am even if I didn’t leave the house before 12am.
    Let me know if this can be done and I’ll give it ago! Otherwise let me know if you have any other ideas how I can get it to work.

    • @BeardedTechGuy
      @BeardedTechGuy 5 років тому

      Yes you can! Your real challenge will be the stability of the presence sensor. This could be accomplished with a "if presence changes to home between 12am and 6am, turn on light else nothing" piston. webCoRE has a great community on the SmartThings forum and their wiki is pretty helpful too! community.webcore.co wiki.webcore.co/

      @BeardedTechGuy 4 роки тому +1

      v2 hardware is better -
      v2 CPU: 1GHz
      v2 RAM: 512MiB
      v3 CPU: 500MHz
      v3 RAM: 128 MiB
      This means less local processing capabilities among other things. The big advantage of the v3 hub is the WiFi connectivity, but honestly for home automation I'd really urge to be wired for the best performance. Unless your wireless Meshes for Zigbee and ZWave don't work well with where the hub would have to be wired in.
      Getting the v3 hub isn't the end of the world, its just not an upgrade over the v2 hub except for the WiFi.
