    OMG! You got Brett Kollmann on! I have been a fan of this man for YEARS. He is so knowledgeable about the game it's amazing. And he really knows how to deliver it in laymen's terms.

      I believe this is the 4th time we've had him on the show. (One of those was on the Chargers channel with EJ but still)

      @@guiltyascharged7752Hey off topic but with the Raiders defensive additions, especially pass rush, how much trouble do you feel they give us , especially on the Oline? Also I think people aren't realizing that the Raiders have a damn nice pass catching core and Minshew isn't a bum! Obviously KC is KC ,the Broncos are terrible but how are you looking at what Harbaugh/Horitz have done so far?

    Brett explaining the Alt/McConkey picks being the perfect choice was top shelf. Some will never fall off the Nabers wagon, but the Bolts hit a homerun. Really interesting to hear he didn't see Nabers going in the top 10 if the Giants hadn't taken him.

    I hope Brett's belief and explanation for taking Joe Alt will do it for the doubters and Nabers fans.

    Combine story: AJ Smith and Marty Schottenheimer sat on opposite sides of the Dome in Indy in 2004, as AJ was furious Marty could not stop tipping his hand (and talking) about his preference for QB Philip Rivers.

    A few things not being discussed in the Nabers-Alt debate is Pre-Draft talk was going from LT to RT is a real challenge. You just dk how a player will adapt. It's a risk..Post Draft it's "Alt to RT is a non-issue. He went from TE to LT without blinking. There is zero concerns. No one in NFL has any concerns".Also Pre Draft it was Chargers want a OT- probably Alt but maybe JC Latham or T.Fuaga. The day of Draft theres talk we had Latham ranked higher than MHJ &.we're refusing to even take trade offers. Talk that we are trying to trade down, not up from 37th pick. And talk of Chargers turning down 11 & 23 from Min; which Min never offered. What if McConkey was gone by pick 34? There was no one after him that fit the Chargers as well. It recently came out that Trey Pipkins biggest weakness is the exact Gap Run Blocking scheme Harbaugh/Roman will use. Also now Pipkins could move inside. Also new negative info just came out about Nabers personality. Give us 12 new pieces of information & ofcourse we are looking at things differently now.

    When are u guys gonna speak about Hortiz getting 2 draft picks for Keenan Allen and got rid of his massive salary at the same time? He used the 4th from Chicago to move up to get Ladd then used that same pick in the 5th round to get Taheeb Still ! None of these so called experts recognized this genius move .. now the chargers have the cap space to trade for a big named player in the middle of the season

    Interesting take by Brett saying the new kickoff won’t benefit derius. First time I’ve heard that because my initial thought was it would be huge plus for derius.

    Couldn’t agree more with Kollman. The Chargers did exactly what they needed to do to establish the run, protection, and winning. Nabors fans … get over it

      This is a very negative take on those people and their argument. It's not like we are *anti* drafting linemen or something. Most of us (especially me) are extremely oline-focussed. I want a strong oline more than anything. My priority is to protect Justin Herbert at all costs and give him a chance. We are all the people who jumped up and down when they picked an olineman in the 1st rounds the last 2 years. However the context matters.
      The context here was that we had got rid of Keenan, Mike, Austin, Gerald. *ALL* of Justin's targets.
      The context here was that we had lived with a terrible-to-nonelite WR cast for entirety of Justin Herbert's football career -- high school, college, NFL so far. He has *never* had elite support at WR who could separate. The *best* protection and support for a QB is a WR who can separate and catch, and take it to the house in one shot - easy to throw to, easy to get quick, easy drives, easy to save time.
      The context here was that we had taken steps to improve a horrible oline the past few years - by investing in the oline our first round picks the last 2 years.
      The context here was that we had a reasonable oline compared to our WR/TE room. And that was the biggest risk to Justin as it didn't help to have time to throw to if nobody was open or nobody could catch the damn ball. And there was an opportunity to draft a generational WR talent, whereas we could get good oline help in the 2nd round.
      The context was that Alt was a LT and we had an allpro LT.
      The context was that we had a great shot at building an elite offense.
      The context was that we'd have been thrilled with Alt if we had Keenan or Mike still, and it's still a really close choice.
      The context was that if they wanted a great running game - Harbaugh could have gone to the Vikings or any other team and built it up better - you don't need Justin Herbert and his ginormous contract. You need a cheap QB and a great oline and great RBs and great blocking TEs and cheap WRs. Why would you need and pay Justin Herbert? And waste his career using him like a glorified handoff guy? That's what you all complained of Oregon doing to him - not using his talents so you could predict his NFL value better, right? That galls the most, really. The same people who complained about how Oregon used Justin are the same people calling Harbaugh a genius right now. For the same things.

      it was a question of whether {Rnd 1 OL + Rnd 2 WR} >> {Top 5 WR + Rnd 2 OL) or not, and the way the draft fell out, all the OL went in a run after the Chargers picked Alt at 5. It might have gone differently if the Chargers had not gotten Ladd. Ultimately, whether they did the right thing or not is still a TBD, based on how the players actually all work out, in real games, not paper.

  • @nsn5564
    @nsn5564 5 місяців тому +1

    Repeating the KC model is not just a question of investing in oline above elite WRs, it's a matter of paying big money to the QB, so you really can't pay anyone else very much - so you can't pay players on offense the quality of Tyreek. That's just how it is in terms of NFL economics. KC improved their oline because it was the weakest part of their team by far after the SB debacle (injuries hurt them in that game, really).

    I’ve been hoping they would play Derwin the way you described for a while now. Brandon Staley was such a bad coach, always trying to squeeze square pegs into round holes. I’m excited at the prospect of Junior, Daiyan and Derwin all playing down low, it’s such a versatile grouping.

  • @Marcus419OO
    @Marcus419OO 5 місяців тому

    I don’t really get the whole Daiyan over Nick Nieman thing. As it stands Daiyan was hurt all year and still needs some work that’s why you brought in Perryman because clearly Daiyan isn’t ready and probably won’t be until mid to late this season. Nick Nieman is currently ahead on the depth chart and does very similar things to Daiyan especially when it comes to coverage. Nieman should be above Henley for now.

    This shouldn't even be a discussion! What have we won with KA/MIKE WILLIAMS and Herbert throwing for a gazillion yards?? NOTHING! Nabers is overrated anyway, we were 24th in Pass Pro and 30th in run blocking! Herbert's had fractured rib cartilage, broken fingers on both hands and a torn labrum! And our fan base has been bitching FOREVER about the Oline, now they are handling that! This offense will make Herbert 10x's more effective! And has everyone forgotten how good Palmer has gotten over the last couple years? He has gotten a bit banged up over the last couple years but he can absolutely ball!
