    I have made cold brew tea for long time and I usually add orange slices to my cold brew black tea, and peaches to green tea. they give the tea so much better taste, you must try that guys :)

    I recommend personally using green teas for cold brewing tea. My mother often keeps high quality black tea since we're Indian and we like good tea to use for making chai. I experimented a little bit with cold brewing black tea and the flavor wasn't there for me. Green teas are so light that cold brewing will still retain a lot of the flavor that you want out of it.

    I have two 2-quart pitchers. The clear one goes out on the porch to sit in the sun for 3-5 hours. The white one goes in the fridge overnight. I get scores of different kinds of tea from a food bank, many of them herbal teas. I'll often pick 6-7 different flavors, all containing cinnamon, or maybe orange or apple, to steep together. (My current craze is peppermint, spearmint, candy cane lane, and peppermint bark) Add a bit of sugar and pour over ice. Perfect to sit on the porch with, especially in the wave of 100+ degree weather we've been getting.

      Green tea is easy to 'burn' and turn bitter. Cold brew green tea is amazing. no bitter, it's just smooth all the way down. Black tea as well. It can become quite bitter quite easily because the hot water is just too hot. cold brew takes the entire problem out of the equasion. It's fantastic.

    This is great when you want to enjoy a nice cup of iced tea without any added sugar !
    But take a note guys, if someone has a diarrhea, stomach pain, bacteria in the intestine, or even stomach ulcer, Tannins are a great solution for that .
    Which you can find them in tea (they are the bitter compounds) and in pomogranate flesh (the yellow part) .
    We've been using pomogranates for ages here to treat diarrhea.

    I put mine in the middle tube of the fruit diffuser pitcher. I added cut-up orange slices. I used soursop tea because I need to drink it due to them finding some lumps in my breast tissue. I'm too lazy to boil tea. I don't really like it that much. Soursop/Graviola tea has a very mild taste. It's like drinking infused water.

  • @JB-sz4wy
    @JB-sz4wy 7 років тому +3

    Max Falkowitz once said cold brew did well for lighter teas though even though he has great articles on tea sorts (white, green, oolong, black and puerh) and he may cover infusions though I have not read his site on those, I think he is wrong there as blacks actually do quite well on the cold brew if you want a full bodied tea. I have left them in the fridge when left over from the pot and got a surprisingly tasty result. Earl grey, darjeeling, lapsang souchong and specialty blacks like Ceylons/ Nilgiri and a few loose leaf other smooth ones do wonderfully. My father has one called Los Andes which works well that way. Builders brew is not what I am talking about here though, unless you want to make it sweet it will hold up to sugar or milk and it is not true that having the latter in an iced tea will never make it good, although it depends whether you like adding things to it or not

    I wish there's an explanation why doing a cold brew would prevent the bitter taste from coming compared to when using hot water. Also, will this affect the nutritional value of the tea?

    • @helpfulnatural
      @helpfulnatural 8 років тому +50

      Similar to brewing coffee, hot water extracts more flavor compounds but some of those compounds can be bitter. Cold brewing is much slower and doesn't force these bitter compounds out of the tea or coffee, whichever you are brewing. So you get a much smoother result. Cold brewing also is far less acidic. Hope this helps. :)

    • @YKDDS91
      @YKDDS91 8 років тому +14

      Hot water essentially means more molecular movements. The molecules vibrate vigorously, therefore, causes an extraction of unwanted flavors such as caffeine and etc.. Also, a hot temperature can "cook" the leaves which can change the flavor of the tea than is intended.

    • @ariel3725
      @ariel3725 8 років тому +2

      ***** thanks for the explanation. but will it affect the healthy properties of tea?

    • @YKDDS91
      @YKDDS91 8 років тому +15

      I believe it will not affect the health benefit of the tea if you're talking about the antioxidative properties of tea. Common antioxidants found in tea such as ascorbic acid has a thermal stability of 90C so unless you're drinking boiling tea, it probably won't affect the healthy properties of your tea.

    Nice. How many teabags per cup of water?

    • @MerikRelian
      @MerikRelian 3 роки тому +3

      it's mostly up to preference. I have a 1gal pitcher that I use and I put 10 bags in mine. It's a little stronger, which is how I like it. 8 seems to be the golden rule for a gallon. So that's.... 16 cups in a gallon... 1 bag per 2 cups of cold water. And adjust according to your preference. fewer bags will yeild a softer flavor, more bags, richer. It's all preference.
      Also, this is very forgiving. Let's say you do 6 bags and oh no it's too watery.... well...just add 2 more bags and stick it back in the fridge. tomorrow it'll be all set. You can always add more so when it doubt, start light and adjust to your liking.

      Tea in bags is just crushed leaves. You would just need to strain it when it's finished brewing.

      I usually add orange slices to it, it gives it really great taste, you must try that! :)

    Your first mistake was using tea bags. The dust in there is bitter no matter what. You should use loose leaf, full leaf, and pure tea..

    There's nothing wrong with tea bags people. Sheesh. The only thing wrong with this video in my opinion is that he offered no proportion of water to tea.

    • @stageiiwappie950
      @stageiiwappie950 Рік тому

      It doesnt matter what proportion if its too concentrated you can dilute with water or sugarwater after brew! only thing thats bad if u use too much water
