- Hey guys so I had a problem when I removed my headliner he was so deteriorated that it was falling apart and so I had to stiffen the old foam formed board with some fiberglass and resin That allowed a stiffer surface To re bond a new headliner fabric and foam to
Love it - exactly what I was looking for. I'm a little worried that the headliner will curl or lose shape, but it didn't seem like you had that problem
No I didn't seem to have any problems but just keeping it flat and keeping the bubbles out.
@JCustomFab Thank you for the video. I'm about to use fiberglass to reinforce my headliner as well. How did that 3M glue hold up over the years?
Thank you so much for posting this. I've had the headliner from my Grandpa's '78 GMC C35 in the garage for a couple of years, nervous to try any of my ideas. I picked up that same resin and some fiberglass about a year ago, but wasn't sure if it was a good idea.
Now I just need to figure out how to reuse the mandarin orange perforated vinyl. Not sure if I can do it without the foam, or if I can put new foam on... Unless I can find new material. Probably need to call around.
Thats a good idea. I have 2 headliners for my truck. Both are old and have lost their strength. Im going to do what you did in this video. Good stuff!
Let me know how I goes I am glad this video helped you...
That's great, any way we can save money these days on mods and restoration is very helpful.
Yes it is a definite great way to save money... If you can get the resin cheap enough haha
Great idea. Thanks for making this video
Turned out good
Thanks I appreciate it.
Looks good. I'm working on a caprice headliner. Hope it turns out as good as yours. If you want to check it out I have videos on here. Keep up the good work.
Nice job like the videos
This is exactly what I was searching for. I have a 96 Jeep Cherokee XJ with the classic droopy headliner. The foam underneath is coming apart too. Why didn’t you overlap the fiberglass sheet around the edges to hold its integrity?
In my situation I didn't need to overlap because I was trying to keep it as smooth as possible to glue the fabric back on.
Thank you for a great film. Did you add any resin hardener, or it is just fiberglass resin? My headliner looks exactly the same, also very soft. On another side after I removed the old foam there is some thin layer pills off at some patches. Should I pill it off or it is a thin layer of paper and will be soaked w/glue when I apply a new headliner fabric? Thank you again.
So then that exact 3M adhesive works for foam backed headliners to fiberglass? I have an 05 GMC Sierra 3500, and the headliner is fiberglass not carton. After taking off the old adhesive, I tried glueing new foam backed headliner to the fiberglass with gorilla glue spray adhesive, but no dice. I’m afraid to spend money on another adhesive without knowing for sure that it bonds the foam to the fiberglass.
Do u have some links the the items you used
I so want to glass my headliner. I'm not brave enough. 😆
Hey I wouldn't worry at all I bet it will turn out great just take your time...
I love you, thank you
Could you fiberglass then paint over the fiber glass. Would it be hard to get a smooth finish?
Awesome video! What kind of fiberglass is that? I'm in a similar situation. Thanks
I use the thin fibreglass weave but you could definitely use a thin chopped fibrer... I am glad you like the video
I’m planning to fiberglass the cracked headliner board on my 89 s10, but was thinking about doing the side facing the roof, and not the bottom side. Is there any reason you preferred the bottom side?
The only thing I would worry about doing that is it may rub against the metal roof or rattle
Headliner looks great 👍 where did you buy the fabric?
I bought the fabric off Amazon very cheap but you can pick it up at Walmart or your auto parts store
@@JCustomFab thank you!! 👍
How is it holding up? Anything youd do differently?
It's holding up awesome. I wouldn't do anything different. Even the glue is holding.
I'm redoing my 2001 Audi TT headliner and trim right now. Using 3m contact 10 over the plastic trim panels worked great but the bond time is so fast that I'm a bit concerned about using it for the headliner since a fast bond requires small strips to be done at a time which can lead to creases showing up, plus maybe not giving me enough time to work the cloth into the cutouts and contours.
I need help with a 1990 Cadillac brougham headliner, I’m trying to install a starlight headliner but it’s cracked on the back of it😩
Those starlight headliners are cool to do I've done a couple of them ... You can probably pop the LED strings through the headliner and then put resin over the top of the pad that's cracked On the back side and may be might hold it together enough.
Hey! Did you use fiberglass cloth instead of fiberglass mat?
Because I had the fiberglass cloth and Not Matt
@@JCustomFab ok. While I hadn't done this before today, I used a patch of fiberglass matt and man it was hard to spread the resin. The fiberglass kep shredding off like lint You think cloth would be better and where did you get a big sheet?
Have you tried uv resins? Like SMD?
No I have not used SMD resin. I have used a lot of polyesters and epoxy resin and I think the SMD is a polyester.
why is your music loud and overpowering your video
I will definitely work on that.
