Hmm even on lowest tension, my top thread breaks when stitching through several thin leather layers. The issue seems to occur when the crank is half turned, when the bobbin turns to pull the top thread. Any idea how to go about trouble shooting this?
sorry for late reply... been off the channel quite a long time... check your needle arm tension, plus you can just touch the foot underneath with a fine file to make sure no sharp edges
Try changing your thread or your tensions. Cotton threats are the worst with these machines, as they have rough, hand-finished edges, which can easily fray cotton.

Check you tensions! It's usually something with that when the top thread is breaking.
