- How to Safely Remove the Decorative Door Trims on a BMW E60 & E61 A quick video showing how to remove the star washers from the decorative door trims without damaging them.
The BMW E60 and E61 seem a bit unique as the clips for these trim pieces need to be accessed from the rear and don't lever off from the front like many other trims do. I've briefly covered the complete door trim removal for both the front and rear doors but have not gone into too much detail as these are fairly well covered already.
Also shown in the video is how to fix the trims if the plastic parts have broken off, I found an M3 washer and small self tapping screw worked very well here. Any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch.
The Facom hook tools I used can be found here www.primetools.co.uk/product/...
These cheaper ones also work well www.eurocarparts.com/p/amtech...

I have a similar technique😂 pry up 2 or 3 tabs with a small flat head screwdriver, then I insert a 2 prong pry tool below the washer and just use the flat head to spin the washer, acting like your "unscrewing" it
Great Video mate and just what I was looking for having bought a used set of trims in Space Gray for my E61 (with a number of broken fixings!) Thanks for sharing!
Glad I could help Justin! I struggled to find a video that covered these trims.
Great video! Exactly what I needed.
Great to hear! Many thanks
Thank You for this Video, this Video helped me a lot🤝🏽
Glad it helped!
Hello, I didn't know that I needed to remove the pannel first to remove to trim. I break those mountains. Is there any way to repair them?
If the plastic peg parts are missing, gluing the trim in place may be your only option?
if you don't have a star, but those plastic holders are, how would you suggest to fasten them?
Personally I would buy the correct star clips from BMW: 52207115704. However they are a bit expensive, you may find an M5 star washer could be used instead.
Nice idea about the screws, but it's cheaper and more OEM to reuse the washers. I just use an 8mm socket and bash them in, they will bite real hard like from the factory
I would always reuse the star washer if I could, but if the pedestal part is damaged a screw seems the next best thing.
Hi, what can I do if all clips are damaged and no plastic pins/pegs
You may find glueing the trims in place is the only solution?
Does someone knows the lenght and size of the screws please? Thanks
8 x 1/2" self tapping screw with pan head
Do I need to unplug the battery for this?
It's always worth disconnecting the battery if one is going to unplug any part of the airbag system. You do run the risk of triggering a fault light otherwise.
can you remember the screw size and length?😅
8 x 1/2"
