Thank you so much for empowering me to adjust my Phillips DreamStation. I had been moved from 9 up to 11 pressure. I could not get used to the 11 and it aggravated a immune system dermatology condition I have because in addition to the DME company increasing my pressure under a doctor’s request ... they cranked up the heat and humidity too. I am an RN and have used all kinds of technology but to make us mushrooms in the dark about these simple machines makes me angry! Thanks again for empowering the consumer. It’s ridiculous that I should have to call my sleep doctor pulmonologist who then contacts the DME company just to change the pressure on my CPAP unit. No wonder our cost of healthcare is ridiculous in the US.

As a diabetic, I can tell you that the best advice I ever got from a Dr was when I asked him what to expect and he told me, I dont know, it's your body! And proceeded to teach me how to own my diabetes, make adjustments safely (something few Dr's will allow) and get the needed result. This video is the same thing. If you have sleep apnea, dont expect your Dr to know what is happening in your bed every night, don't expect them to believe what you tell them (They are Doctors after all). You have to SAFELY own your apnea treatment and this video is a great way to get on that road. Thanks Jason.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! My doc set me up with auto starting at 5 which eventually ramps up to 12.8 after many many sleep events. Due to flow restrictions through the mask etc, the 5 setting feels like I am suffocating for what feels like an eternity before it finally reaches a level where I am comfortable and can breathe well enough to truly fall asleep and stop struggling for air. It feels like "waterboarding light". I had to fake apnea events to get the pressure up enough to breathe comfortably and sleep since I got this thing. I am ok with a high pressure out of the gate and don't need ramp etc.
Thank you for ending my torture.

God bless you sir for sharing this info! My husband's CPAP settings were very wrong from the beginning. He stopped using it because the pressure went up too high and often flung it off his face multiple times a night. Getting his CPAP to work correctly has been a nightmare. Your simple instructions showed us that his pressure settings were maxed at 20 mm when his prescription was maxed at 15 mm! He even had another sleep study done and his new prescription is 5 mm to 10 mm but we couldn't get anyone to change the settings. He would fling the mask off or spasm awake when he wasn't using the CPAP so often that we couldn't even sleep together most of the night! Ever since he fixed the settings himself 2 nights ago he's been sleeping better and last night I actually was able to truly sleep next to him cause he wasn't waking up flinging the mask off. ENDLESS THANKS to you good sir!

My wife started using CPAP last week and after struggling with the usual start up difficulties we talked to her Dr. about reducing the upper pressure setting of her APAP range from 15 to 12. The Dr. said yes and prescribed the change. My wife continued to have difficulty using the machine again last night and when I checked her numbers in the DreamMapper app this morning, I found that her range on her APAP settings was NOT to 6 to 12, it was 6 to 6! And her AHI which has been in the in the 3 to 5 range with a max of 8 was 19! Someone obviously made a mistake. Using the information you provided has enabled me to set her APAP range to 6-12 as the Dr. prescribed. I'll be "talking" with my CPAP people today, but you have enabled me to protect my wife from what seems to have been careless incompetence. Thank you!

5:55 "Oh my God, my doctor is trying to kill me" ROFL. This was me exactly. I adjusted the max pressure from 20 to 12 which was above my 90% max pressure and the metrics all improved (AHI/usage/mask fit). My doc was cool with it and impressed with my initiative. I was concerned she'd be snarky about it. I'm sleeping so much better these days.

Great Video. For information my hospital put me on a Phillips System 1 with a pressure of 11cmH2O , and for somone not used to this it felt like it was blowing my face off. I dropped this to progressively to 8.5 looking at the API values, currently at 1.5 for 30 days average. On a recent visit to check out my machine at hospital the nurse seemed amazed that I actually checked the API data held on the machine and sim card. Absolutely true that end users should be able to change their pressures in an informed way. If I had stuck with 11cmj I would have dumped the whole Apnea machine idea altogether. Just dropped to 7.5 cm to see what the API results look like. If the go to 5 or over I will increase the pressure again. Presumably Phillips want you to buy the auto Dreamstation at extra cost so they can do the adjustments for you.... Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much! You did save my life. I haven't slept a good night for weeks because the pressure was too low and could not get my doctor to hook up with the company controlling my Dream Station. Min. pressure was stuck at 4 and was utterly useless to me.
I did get my doctor to prescribe an increase, but they only increased it to 7.5, which helped a little, but some nights was still too little pressure, especially when fall allergies were kicking in. The last month has been a horror for me as I've asked my doctor to send another prescription. He said he did, but the company said he didn't and I was caught in an endless maze of miscommunication through too many different channels. My personal experience was therapist is a must initially to supposedly fit you, and explain workings of machine and humidifier. Actual fact, never could get hold of them nor return of calls and written inquires. I remember saying air is exiting every orifice in my body. . . .setting at 20. M.D. called therapist while I stood in his office and said you adjust down to 14, then went down to 7 over time. Saying my nose was bleeding, I can't breath over the pressure. . . .nothing suggested nor done until told this doctor I was giving it up after 4 mo. Thank goodness the doctor really cared whether I used. You R helping people. When you have to experiment with mask types, pressure, etc., totally frustrating not to have person interested in responding. I am certain you alter lives and save them.

I've been using a Dreamstation auto pap for 4 months after being diagnosed back in October of 2019. I started using the machine an average of 6.0 to 7.5 hours a night since the day I brought it home. I'm using the Dreammapper app to track my sleep quality. My average AHI Is in the 3.5 range, with occasional jumps to 6.0 and dips to as low as .7. My range was set by my doctor from 4-20.
After about a month of starting out feeling like I was suffocating for 15 minutes or so when I first turned it on each night, I changed the 4 to 5.5. When I went back for my follow-up appointment, my doctor was all surprised and suspicious because the beginning number had changed and questioned me as to how the number changed and who did it. I did, ya big dummy.
Now, since my 100% compliance has obviously made my insurance gods happy with me, I feel like I've been forgotten in 5.5-20 purgatory. I still have far too many events each night as far as I'm concerned. Last night wasn't a good night - My AHI was 4.7, with a usage time of 6.23. I had 27 total hypopneas and 3 total obstructive apneas, but my 90% pressure was only 7.9. I realize that an AHI below 5.0 is normal, butI still feel pretty tired during the day.
I'm going to make an appointment with my doctor rather than just adjust the pressures on my own (although thanks to your video, I now know how to do that), but your video has explained to me why I could still so tired even though I religiously use my machine. Thank you!

Thanks for this! I'm a new user and have been sleeping poorly, with AHIs no better than my sleep study. Yesterday doc prescribed raising my pressure but it has to be done through my CPAP provider (what is the term for them?). But they likely won't do it until after the weekend, and meanwhile I want a good night's sleep. So I'm glad to be able to up the pressure to my doc's recommendation myself instead of waiting. Granted it may not help, but it's better than waiting.

Thanks so much, my docs gave a bipap machine and set the pressure at 24, yes you read that right 24. This was after I had the flue and pneumonia and was hospitalized for 21 days (oh yeah the PE's from them not giving me blood thinners while I was stuck not moving at all for 2 weeks). Then a year later I changed insurance companies and got another test down to 18, so they gave me a new machine but wouldn't reset my old one. I now have a spare in case anything happens to my machine.

I so appreciate this information. I am frustrated that some medical supplier is controlling my machine. I feel left out of my health care decisions by that set up. Also they charge too much. I can get all the gear cheaper elsewhere and submit to my insurance. I don't want the middle-man. This allows me to take back control of my machine and my sleep health. Thank you.

Great video. My pressure came at 16 , and I kept calling the number and explaining that I was actually sleeping worst than before, I couldn't even exhale because I had so much air blowing in my face! I felt like my eyes where about to pop off! Not to mention that the setting was locked so I couldn't turn on the humidifier(which it came with) and my mouth was super dry , like I couldn't even swallow. I really don't understand some of this doctors. Now finally I feel better using it! This video helped me a lot!

I did not have this machine for 2 days and I was already adjusting the settings to a point where I sent an update to my provider they are alike . Oh wow you have it set up better than we did how did you do it.. my answer I am not an idiot.. lol. great video man

My Respironics Dream Station came at a constant pressure of 7 which was only having a marginal affect on my sleep apnea. I followed the video directions to change the setting from cpap to apap and I couldnt get the Therapy setting to come up...UNTIL....I held down all three buttons (power/ramp/dial) and there it was. I was able to change the settings as shown in the video. I am going to try the 8-12 and see how that works for me

My husband just got one through his Dr, no instructions, so I went to UA-cam. Dr keeps changing it, and his ahi gets way worse. He adjusted well to settings I put(.6-2.6 ahi on mine, 6+ on theirs). Now we're considering getting myself one, and not through a Dr, even if that means we pay for the machine, when insurance would cover 100% through a Dr lol

Thank you so much. My CPAP machine was sent to me locked and tbe pressure was ser so high I couldn't use it. The heated humidifier was also set too high and I couldn't change that either. The manual was a joke and didn't help. I paid for this machine out of my own pocket, so I expect full control of it. Doctors always think they know best, but I guess malpractice lawsuits say something different. Again thank you for this video, it saved me a lot of time, hassle, and stress!

Yes medicine is best when the patient is actively involved in their treatment. Understand what your condition is and monitor the therapy. Many things can be adjusted to provide better treatment. This is one of those things....I also think that the only cpap machine worth having has auto titration because every night is a little different. Thanks for the help here!!

GREAT stuff. You are awesome! I appreciate that you credit us with enough sense to know how to use the info you give us responsibly :-) The side of my head on the pillow gets sweaty at night but now I can turn up my CPAP pressure until air blows out my ears and keeps my head cool. Couldn't have done it without you! I think my machine has a foam breakdown problem though. I keep finding some kind of grey stuff on my pillow in the mornings. The good news is there's less every day ...

If I would have left the pressure at what they said I needed, I would not have had a night sleep in the last 4 years. I keep telling my doctors that I am the one who has to live in this body and am subject to privileged hands on information because of it. Don't like it when they speak with condescending tone, happens too often

After a couple of adjustments my machine was stuck on 8 instead of auto and the humidifier didn't turn on all night. I'm so excited to try this. I have been so unsuccessful using my Cpap. I asked if the pressure could be lowered. The sleep Dr said no. I tried to reason that a little bit of pressure is better than no pressure. Hence it has sat in my closet for years. Recently seen the the ED and told that because I'm not using my cpap, its going to put me in chf in the long run. At least this give me a chance to adapt.
