One thing we learned from @bigozexplorers take paper plates and bamboo cutlery when off grid too. An alternative so you don’t have to wash plates and cutlery.
And have a tub in the shower to catch water.
Thanks for your tips. Especially the toilet spray bottle 👍

Try a water diverter valve on the hot water line, divert cold water back to tank, then fully opens when at temp, no wasting water or standing in the cold water. Great video!

One trick I learned early when we borrowed a friends Jayco was to hang a towel in the elbow of the Electric Awning so you don't keep running into it. Could send you back to town with concussion

We have a 12V shower and collapsible 10 litre bucket for showering off grid - boil the kettle and top up half a bucket of cold water - we can do two showers with about 10 litres (and we use it in our ensuite shower) any left over warm water goes to washing up the dishes 😊

I find our lighting is way over the top inside the van so I use cheap usb rechargeable strip lighting and stick up strips. Recharge them during the day while the sun is doing its thing.
I like the idea of catching the cold shower water. I might try that

If the opportunity arises, having a means to harvest rainwater and getting it back in your tanks is something I did the very first time my family and I went out in our caravan - which happened to be fully offgrid.

We bought a Topargee Water Flow meter you install just after the pump, once calibrated right, you will be surprised how much usable water you really have, and you know exactly to the litre how much water you use and have left.
Amazing product, highly recommend, easy to install, all JV fittings

In regard to a generator. We don’t take one with us on our trips. Because our 12v vehicle charging can put in 50amps where is the generator can only put in 10amps. So if we get a low battery we just run the car for an hour or two and or go for a drive. But we also have the red vision system that alerts me if we start getting low battery.

Hello, this was great and I really enjoyed it. Particularly about the water saving tips! About the cassette toilet. Yes one thing I did notice was that these "were" the limiting factor for off-grid camping. So I've switched to compost - oh my, weeks now added, no more searching for dump points, no more noxious cleaning... Life is so much better! You should consider looking at this option imo.

    • @fivedownunder

You’re onto it,nothing I can add 👍👍. The bride flew in from England today 👏👏👏one minor little problem, when she went to get her second suitcase out truck she realised it was the same bag with purple label on it and the label that the airline put on it had her name BUT the little purple label had someone else’s name and phone number on it 🤪🤯. She quickly rang the number and as luck would have it the other lady had done the same thing and had her bag (she hadn’t realised it yet) . So anyway we’re near Dubbo and she is in Sydney,so tomorrow we’ll drive to Bathurst and they’ll get there about lunchtime from Sydney and do the bag exchange. She is from England with a Ozzie hubby as well so it will be a good excuse for a drive and nice lunch with new found friends 😁😂. Bloody pomey birds, your lucky you’re good looking I tell ya 😂😂❤️🙏👁️👁️😎😇

    One or two ideas.
Cook food and boil water on an open fire in a fire pit are s/s bbq.
During cold winters in NZ I warm a half basin and do a top 'n tail with liquid soap and a cloth.
I buy fresh fruit and dehydrate apples, bananas. Lasts a lot longer than fresh fruit. Add a a bit if cinnemon and sugar ifvyouvwish
Mixed veggies dehydrate well and if kept in seamed plastic containers one doesn't need to refrigerate. Lasts for months. "Pour 'n Go" nan be used to purify water off the roof, awning water or clear stream water./ from Mitre 10. I've used it for years. I use a lot of powdered milk. No containers in fridges. In coffee, cooking, porridge etc I can't tell the difference. Tea is a different matter. I got used to it! To save water showering, use a NEW, UNUSED garden spray that's gardeners us for weed spraying. Wet - soap - spray off. It works well and you use a lot sell water for a shower. You need to pump it up for little kids. Use 2x computer fans behind high up on your fridge vent to disperse hot air. Thevfridgeworksvbetterso uses less gas or power. Drive at 80 - 90kmph. Pump tyres quite hard on bitumin. Saves fuel.

when my wife and i went off grid we would fill our two 90l tanks and a 10 liter of water in a container and we would use that for every thing except drinking and fill it for the next day so for the two of us we used 10 l / day plus drinks. so there is water at every stop even though it is not fit to drink so you save water and go for longer with the water you have
