Congratulations, Tom! You're living my dream! I live in San Diego, I'm retired, single, no pets, and I'm learning Italian, preparing to move to Italy in 2025. I'm purging everything! I'm considering Rome to start, or Florence. Like you, I am open to anything, and would also love to live by the sea. OMG I love spiral staircases too! I'm curious how long the process was from applying for the retirement visa to getting it? And did you have to have a residence address in Italy first? Grazie mille! ~ John
Thanks for sharing, John! We have an episode on the ERV you can listen to here www.sentiremedia.com/show/anewlifeinitaly/the-truth-about-italys-elective-residency-visa-qualifications-and-financial-requirements/ . You can also join our Retire in Italy FB group via facebook.com/groups/retireinitaly
John! You're telling my story! Same here but I'm a few miles up the coast from you in Santa Ynez! Looking at going in 2025! How I wish I could recall the Italian language I knew as a child! Florence is perfect, not too big, and anywhere by train! See you there! Oh,the people producing this video Smart Move Italy, are the contacts that have contacts. Tax, legal, Visas, etc. Learn a little, make a list of what you want, don't want, big or small city, etc I have a binder Ive started. Someone said, use a professional to help with this move. Pay a little to save a lot of trouble!
Ciao John - just saw this message. I started the process in October and arrived here in Florence in July - so just a few months. I moved from Burbank and cleaning out the house there was great. It was time for that. I did not have a residence in Italy when I arrived, but shorty found my new house.
As an Italian, I prefer to live in LA County. Obviously it depends on how much you earn, but in LA area and in the S Francisco Bay Area, the life standard is very high.
I was living in an Airbnb when this was filmed. I bought a house in the hills above Florence where I just moved in. I was lucky to find something that is amazing so fast.
@@lisac9519 When I showed it to people in Italy they would say 'Wow, that is expensive'. When I showed it to people in California they would say 'Wow, that is a great deal!'
@@tomeleonardwe were in Florence this past week. We have rented Airbnb’s as well for up to a month. If we buy, renting for a bit seems like the best way to allow time to find a home to buy.

Wishing you all the best ❤ great choice Florence 😊😊😊
I want to move to Italy, but we have to wait until the grandkids grow up some more so they can visit us.
That'll be such a great experience for them!
Lovely

Would love to know what kind of visa you got that will allow you to work and live there.
Ciao! You can explore visa options with our free visa guide smartmoveitaly.com/visa22
Tom, would you share who your tutor is? If not here, private message? Making the move soon and definitely need help with the language.
What’s the name of Tom’s podcast I’d love to listen
The Gamers Change Lives Podcast.
Are you renting or did you buy in Florence? Beautiful home.
I have the same question 😊

Would dearly love to live in Florence, but don't think I could afford it the rent/home purchase

do you need a room mate ?
Just me here - sorry.
My recent new goal - move to Italy or Spain...... just not worth being here in expensive Canada anymore.
