I stumbled upon this song while planning a memorial for my sister's fiancee. He passed in his sleep so she didn't get to say goodbye. I played this song and Go Rest High on the Mountain for his service. He is gone but not forgotten.
Thank goodness for your smaller quilt patterns. I have made hundreds of large quilts and embroidered half of them but the years have taken their toll. Now I can only do small throw quilts and your patterns are the perfect solution. Thank you.
I’m glad you GALS are starting to show MORE on how to actually sew these blocks. This just adds to the joy of your videos. Since you now have a FAT QUARTER book, have you thought about branching out into selling fat quarters?
So glad you like these types of videos! We plan on doing more of these types of videos showing how to make blocks used in our quilts. We actually do sell a few fat quarter bundles on our website, right now our inventory is depleted but there are more coming in! www.fabriccafe.com/Fat-Quarter-Bundles-s/1995.htm
I really like how you make this videos in a conversational, easy does it way so it feels as if you are in the room with us. Brilliant teaching and I watch a video a day at least! I'm learning so much as I am slowly getting towards piecing together my first quilt. The three yard quilt method is so creative 😊😊💜💜💜👍👍👍 Books will be purchased!
Thank you Helena! We're so glad we've been able to share some helpful tips and do it in a way that is pleasing and fun to watch. We're all in this together! Good luck on your first quilt, I'm sure it will turn out wonderful! 😊
Hi Donna! This is Annie! I met you at the Quilt Expo in Lakeland, Florida last weekend! Thank you so much for this video! I have been staying away from making 1/2 square triangles because they were a challenge for me. Now, it doesn't look to be too hard after watching this video! I may even try your new free pattern, Flying Geese! Thanks again!
Hey Anne! Yay! We do our best to try and simplify the process as much as possible and show everyone that they can do it, too! Good luck on all your projects!
Appreciate your sharing information for HSTs. Directional fabric gets tricky and I have several quilts with mistakes in cutting the wrong way! Another helpful video. Thank you!
The most wonderful tool I have In my quilt tool arsenal is the folded corner clipper by Creative Grids. Making 1/2 square triangles is so accurate-no drawing lines and it saves fabric. The clipper is also used to make flying geese and is used to finish bindings-absolutely the easiest and most accurate way for me to do that last step in sewing on bindings. My favorite ruler of all. I also like the ruler that you’re using.
Thank you for showing the different methods of squaring up your Hst's. I have the slotted trimmer and sometimes I forget to use it and go with old method of big square up ruler
Another great tutorial. I love, love, love the perfectly slotted trimmer. It makes it a breeze to trim the triangles quickly. I also just purchased the book pattern bundle. I am looking forward to trying some of your amazing patterns.
Omg. I looked away for a second, and Donna had been talking when I looked away, so I thought her daughter was Donna when she said something! You sound alike!
Do you have a guide for adding the extra fabric to your cutting instructions so you can make the half square triangles larger and then trim them to the size required for the pattern?
My favorite color is blue. Beautiful quilts. The first time I made a trangke quilt,I didn’t jnow all the tips, trucks and short cuts. Makes me want to try again.😢
Was trying to srnd you a picture of the triangle quilt I made. It was quite challenging,so sm very happy for shiort cuts, tips and tricks. There was no paperclip to hit and bring up my photos and find my quilt. Does this blog not accept pictures? I will try the triangle quilt again soon.. Working on other projects now,but plan to soon.
I have one of those rulers but to be honest I still prefer using the standard method of squaring the blocks up after I’ve pressed them. I know that might sound crazy but I truly love the cutting process. 😉 I just bought the Triangle paper to make HST from The Fat Quarter Shop but I haven’t tried it yet. We’ll see if that can get me away from the standard way of trimming up the HST. 😂
Hey Charlotte, of course you can! You can purchase any 3 kits and choose to receive any one of our 3-yard quilt books for free! Check out all our kits here - www.fabriccafe.com/3-yard-quilt-kits-s/1830.htm
Yes you can do it! If you have any scrap fabrics then we always encourage to do a couple practice cuts on that before using on your final fabric. 😊 You got this!
Hi Deborah! We would love for you to! You can find the printed book at this link, or if you would prefer to choose a digital download version you can find that on our website as well - www.fabriccafe.com/Quick-As-A-Wink-3-Yard-Quilts-book-p/032040.htm
lm going to look for that tool..am making Modern Charm and had to figure out how to square up those small half squares by watching at least 10 tutorials...lol How small do those trimmers go
You can find the tool here, it comes in two sizes - one for whole inches and another for half inches - www.fabriccafe.com/Slotted-Trimmers-p/022072.htm
Have you tried to use that ruler with a tube of the two strips sewn together and cutting the tube alternating the direction of the ruler. Just a little faster since the HSTs are all the same colors.
Do you not line the square up with the bottom grid on purpose? I find the cutting board under the fabric distracting but maybe it doesn’t bother others!
The most important thing is to align the fabric to the square ruler as that will be the most accurate cut. Sometimes there may be a slight discrepancy in a mat if it has been warped or damaged over time. That's why Fran chose to just go off the ruler. Thanks for watching Floy!
Am I the only one who thinks your sample quilt of Tumbling Triangles at 19:00 is not laid out as the actual pattern shows it should be? I did a print screen of the one with Fran and one from the pattern as shown on your website and placed them side by side to make sure I wasn’t going crazy. “Okay, now I see the difference”, I thought to myself. The one made up with Fran standing next to it looks like three square-in-a square blocks exactly alike and in each row and column. All the blocks have the Focus Fabric #1 on the four corners and fabric #2 in the middle as a “diamond”. In the actual pattern, for the first row, the first block has the Focus Fabric #1 on the four corners and #2 fabric is in the middle “diamond”. The difference comes with block #2 that has fabric # 2 in the corners and the focus fabric #1 in the middle “diamond”. Block #3 is the same as block # 1 in that first row. In the second row, the first block is the same as block # 2 in the first row and the rest of the blocks in all the rows alternate between the two. The sewn up “Spring Blooms” one in the video is pretty, but I like the layout of the actual pattern on your website as it is much more interesting with the surprise star formation inside of a larger bonus diamond. So … I’m wondering if the “Spring Blooms” layout was a mistake or was it done that way on purpose to see if the viewers would notice and comment about it?
Wow! We stared at this quilt for so long and didn't catch this! We must have been distracted by the beautiful fabric! 😅 Good catch! The layout is indeed incorrect, we'll have to get another one made up! Thanks for pointing that out to us!
@@FabricCafe - And now tonight whilst looking on your website for my freebee (😁), I can see "Spring Blooms" fabric was actually made from your "Cartwheels" pattern instead of "Tumbling Triangles"!

If you close your eyes and just listen, the two voices could so be interchangeable. Did Fran ever try to get away with using your voice when she was younger? I’m quite sure she didn’t but it was just a funny thought in my mind.
Put a plain white cutting board on the table and use your ruler only to measure and cut. It is very disconcerting to focus on both the ruler line and the cutting board line together as you do your cutting.
