Alan King came from my old Brooklyn neighborhood, Williamsburg. He was of the prior generation than mine, but the humor from him and another native, Mel Brooks, makes me proud to have grown up and lived for 65 years in my old hometown.
On New Year's Eve, he'd host a show called "Alan King Looks Back in Anger" , a humorous summary of the year's misadventures. The audience, too young to remember him on TV, watching and reacting to a master at work. Mind blown 🤯
Brilliant Absolutely Brilliant Alan King, a legend one of the greatest comedian's to ever grace the stage. King had several skits that were pure comedic genius up there with the magnificent "who's on first" skit. Wow is the world in desperate need of a comedy legend of this caliber.....
Take the power of a 1200 watt microwave oven... multiply that by the strength of the Sun... and you have the energy, style and talent of Alan King. He did Everything right, here.
The obituary bit was, of course, one of the all-time greatest routines. But, Alan King had many others. I still remember one joke from his "insurance" routine. He talks about getting in an accident with his car and takes it to the insurance company where a guy looks at the side of the car and says, "Well, that doesn't look too bad." Whereupon King answered, "No, you're right. It doesn't. Now, do you want to look at the side that got hit?"
The bit I remember is one about flying to LA to do a show and his luggage was lost ... haven't found it on UA-cam. Punchline goes something like, "but my tuxedo had a great vacation in Hawaii!"
Through the curse of videotape and youtube, you can see King do this exact same bit a year or two earlier, with the exact same obits, at Carnegie Hall. Not just a random reading of obits, but a practiced routine. and a great one.

Alan King: he is survived by his wife OJ: hold my knife Barreta: hold down my wife Clinton: hold my...... Killery: hold your what?!? Clinton: nothing...
The one thing you don't know about the 104 year old is whether that was a 2nd wife and he outlived the 1st one. The last "Civil War widow" was actually a young woman who had married a Civil War vet when he was a very old man. She was _born_ 50 years after the Civil War was over.
500 years from now young comics will still be studying Alan King.
Very few things are more entertaining than a polished, professional, funny storyteller. Well done, Mr. King.....

A brilliant routine!! How so ironic he would meet the same fate as the routine that he had talked about!! ☺☺🤗 RIP & thanks for the laughter.
King was a class act from the old school - he was a first class entertainer 🙏👍
"Is this the same guy?" I love how Alan King starts to laugh at this commentary.

... y le sobrevivió su esposa
Classic.
When you can read the obituaries on television and make it funny
I'm getting an Al Pacino vibe here.
Wonder if Pacino used King for inspiration.
RIP Mises
The Orlando obituaries???
Survived by his wife!
Alan King died and was survived by his wife.
Hilarious.
Alan King: he is survived by his wife
OJ: hold my knife
Barreta: hold down my wife
Clinton: hold my......
Killery: hold your what?!?
Clinton: nothing...
Now I know where Fed Stoller stole that obituary joke
He showed them how. Why didn’t they learn ?
Author of “Is Salami and Eggs Better than Sex?,” to emphasize that salami and eggs is one thing, not two.
IS HE THE SAME GUY - Yeah kind of - that WAS the joke
did anyone else see how Seinfeld stole his entire way of delivery from Alan King.
How many of those old men were survived by 40 year old wives?
