As a local Savannah resident, it was great to see our wonderful city from a different perspective. Thank you for posting this video.
Ga resident, been on River Street many times but never saw it like this.
Same!
The dredge ship you see is the cutter suction dredge Hampton Roads. She has been working in the port for several years deepening the port for large container ships. They started a port expansion project in the late 2010s and are finished with the main project but keep finding parts they want to further deepen. When you have rival ports like Norfolk going to 56 feet so that the large ships don’t have to wait on tide and such, the port business is very competitive. With that said, the Port of Savanna has grown significantly and is now the 3rd busiest container port in the US. In addition to good port facilities, it had both good rail and road connections. Little wonder it has grown so much.
The Hampton Roads has only done maintenance dredging in the Savannah harbor.
I know that river pilot! Mr. Patrick is doing a great job!
Way back in the early 90's when the Raddison was just built,my ex-wife and I took the kids for a few days to Savannah. We had a 7th floor balcony room and I loved sitting out watching the river traffic and tug boats!
Made it to the end with no problem. Never seen Savannah from this perspective!
As a truck driver; I appreciate you bringing in freight to many companies to keep our region supplied with freight and I hope you make many more trips enjoying the view.
As a consumer who enjoys such things as food, clothes, housewares, medicine, to name only a few, I very much appreciate your work as a truck driver, @rodneygrant7726! Thank you :)
@melissab6060 You're welcome and it's a pleasure to keep America covered.
A truck driver invented modern shipping as we know it. Sea Land after WWII.
watched to the very end! GREAT video!! Thanks
I lived in Savannah for 10 years until the spring of 2021 - this was a cool way to see this. I use to fly my drone up and down the river as well. Got some great shots of the river at 400 feet🌴
Savannah has really changed since I was there. Thanks for the great video.. Yep made it to the end...
Nice video. Always have enjoyed visiting Savannah and watching the ships go by on the river.
My kids and I go to Tybee Island every year for Easter vacation. I love drinking beer on the beach and watching them come in.
Mighty tight squeeze turning that boat around in the Kings Island Turning Basin .
I moved to Savannah recently, and I love watching the ships coming into port from River Street and Tybee Island. Cool to see from the ship's POV.
Years ago, I was working at one of the hotels in Savanna, and I was awestruck at the ships going by. This particular hotel had a 10 story glassed in atrium, and I believe it was a car carrier. It was orange and was as tall as the building . I enjoyed my time in Savanna, lots of history. Beautiful city.
That was an incredible video. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Made it to the end. I’ve enjoyed visiting Savannah and watching the ships come and go. Good video. Really enjoyed the part in the turning basin.
Made it to the end. Great video. As everyone else has mentioned, always enjoy going to Savannah and just watching the ships come in. Nice change up to see it from the cargo ship perspective.
I live in Savannah, so this was VERY interesting to me!! I see these ships coming and going all of the time (I LOVE to sit on that beach on the river at Fort Pulaski and watch these beasts go by!!), but I never get to see them approach the dock! VERY cool!!!
Nice ride into Port Wentworth. Perspective we would otherwise never see. Thanks!
Made it to the end. Did skip ahead (and back) occasionally. The rotation of the ship was awesome!
Thanks for a different perspective on a beautiful city.
Thanks. One of my treats is to watch ships come and go on the river when we visit Savannah. I had duty on a merchant ship when I was in the Navy and just loved pulling into ports throughout the world. It was the Meritime Prepositioning Ships Squadron One. The ships were roll on and roll off ships. Four ships in a squadron and the ships crew were merchant marines with a Navy detachment and a their party to maintain the Marine Corp equipment. We would travel to an operations area and drift for 45 days or so before going into a port to replenish food and fuel.
To the end! Great video.
Thanks. Just arrived in Savannah today (by land) and it was fun to see the town from a different perspective
It was fascinating to watch such a large ship turn in such a tight space. everyone was calm , cool and collected . Congrats to you all for the entertaining video. Thanks!!
150,000 gross tons
@@WhatTheShip Not too shabby!!!😁
This so very interesting. I live 55 miles from Savannah and love watching ships come in and out. I took a trip down the river on the John W. Brown (a Liberty ship) back in 2002.
I made it to the end! Ive been all along tge river watching ships come in. It was really cool to watch from this point of view, thanks!
Outstanding video! And thanks for your knowledgeable input. Just the right length and amount of commentary.

Watched to the end. Very informative. We were in the Riverwalk area in mid march 2024 and I watched several of these amazing ships go by.
Georgia boy here, it’s cool to see Savanna from the ship, I made it to the end, and let’s watch them unload the containers in a video
Wonderful video. I grew up near Savannah and my Dad worked at the Diamond Construction shipyard where some Moran tugs were built in the 1960's. It amazing to see what has changed and what remains after all these years. Thank you.
Made it to the end. I was just in Savannah and have been along the waterfront in a small vessel. It’s quite an experience sitting along shore waiting for them to pass.
Made it to the end. This was an awesome video so I’ll take a look at your other posts as well. You and Chief Makoi do a good job educating us landlubbers on the inner workings of commercial shipping. Way to go.
Yep... Very cool. Thanks
The end
Love it!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Such a different perspective from your view!
After watching those giant container ships pass by our hotel room on a visit to Savannah three years ago, it was fascinating to finally see things from the other side. Thanks!

Love the ride to Savannah great job thx
Have been to Savannah and the River Walk numerous times. Have been on a boat in the river and passed container ships in and out bound. This was a completely different perspective of visiting Savannah. Passing under the Talmadge Bridge was a squeaker, and then turning that monster around was interesting.Great video , thanks.
Yes, watched it all the way to the end. Impressive, thank you.
Cool stuff!!
Wonderful,thanks.
To the END. And loved it!!

Made it to the end….lol!!! This is great as one of my favorite things to do in Tybee Island is watch the container ships go in and out of the mouth of the Savanah river. Will be back there in October.
Yes, made it to the end. Thanks for the video!
Made it to the end as very interesting how our goods make it to our shores. Thank you for posting that video!
That's very interesting because back in the mid 90's I owned my own truck and hauled those ship containers from that port to warehouses all over the southeastern US.
Great job! Yep, we saw it all. Snugged it right in there.
Wow!! Thank you
Pretty cool with great views.
I visited Savannah a few years ago, and my jaw dropped while sitting outside at one of the riverside restaurants and a container ship came downriver. The river didn’t appear wide enough for something so big. What an amazing site.
Watched to the end, great video, excellent job.!!
Thanks for sharing. Very interesting and educational.
Great video, thanks for sharing
love Savannah, great video
Cool video! My husband was a deckhand, then wheelman on Crescent tugs in Savannah. He retired in 2018. I’ve been able to ride the tugboat and see the work from that perspective, but never from the ship! My brother-in-law and father-in-law were both river pilots in Savannah.
Made it to the end. Brings back memories.
Very interesting , Thanks!
Interesting video ... a view we landlubbers never see
Loved the video. Made it to the end. I enjoyed Savannah when we were there.
Made it to the end. Why not? Awesome and informative content. Thanks for your perspective.
Thanks for watching!

Awesome... thank you for this. If you're ever back in Savannah, stop in my favorite River Street seafood restaurant - Fiddler's Crab House. They've got an upper-deck outdoor dining patio where you can watch these ships as they pass.
Super Video. Made it to the end.
Great Video, I enjoyed seeing Savannah from a very different view.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Pretty friggin' cool
Very interesting. Thank you.
Super cool video! Watched all of it
Docking a ship safely is no joke. I'm always amazed how they do it.
Been to Savannah many times and seen the great ships. Thnks for posting!
Interesting to see the Savannah river walk from this perspective. Also, great navigating by all involved . Thank you !
Just amazing. Stayed in Savannah last year right on the river. Watching these amazing ships as they slowly inched under the bridge was amazing. Especially watching them at night. What an amazing sight to see and such maneuvering skills. Can't wait to go back.
Great perspective.
Love ship life.
Great view!
Fantastic
Made it to the end. What a difference the view is from the bridge deck. I love our beautiful city. This just added another great view. Glad to hear that you enjoyed your time in our hostess city the week before.
