The Republican party is now, all but in name, two completely separate parties. This means we now have a three-party system in place, where no one party holds a majority. That means a coalition government, similar to what many European countries have. It may be possible for the more centrist Republican wing to "capture the center" and form a coalition with the Dems, allowing the Gaetz/MTG/Jordan party to truly be the minority they desire.
If there is no Speaker, no laws are passed, no appropriations are passed, nothing is accomplished except the fact that nothing is accomplished. That is what these people want.
When this repugnant party losses NOV 24 I'll have a gigantic smile on my face. The fact that they back a TRAITOR is really the main problem.

The root problem of this is that Republicans fully know that their ideas are NOT broadly popular.
On a level playing field, Democrats would clean their clock...which is why they have been working to undermine the faith in government since Reagan.

Up here in Canada many of us are pleased to see the GOP in such disarray. This is is something watchers could see coming along way off though. With the ideological divisions within the GOP it was inevitable that things would unravel and split the party....The GOP. have become unelectable in too many districts now.

I just read an article about the Ohio State sexual scandal. There are athletes saying that they told Jordan of the abuse. Even though Jordan was not the head coach, he had a duty to protect these athletes.

If every congressional district were a fairly drawn, competitive „swing“ district, none of these obstructionists would be in Congress, the body would be built on compromise, and this crisis would not have happened.
You can’t make every seat competitive. Some areas are simply not politically competitive. You can’t carve a Republican seat out of Chicago or a Democrat seat out of the Florida Panhandle.

To my mind OH4 not only may not have the votes but doesn’t have the competence, temperament, or character to be Speaker, or, especially, to be second in line of succession for the US Presidency, and this last consideration is key in weighing any others.
As with any operative authority, there is a dictum if you don’t have it, you go to who does. In this case if it’s not in the membership of the House (although actually in this case it may be) the body may elect it from outside. (I cannot say the tacitness of the Constitution was or is an oversight. Neither can I regard it as endorsement of an orange menace.)
