- Taking a look at some offerings from Victorinox’s line of 111mm Swiss Army Knives. Lots to cover in this video! Featuring: Victorinox One Hand Trekker, Victorinox Adventurer, Victorinox Skipper, Victorinox Skipper Pro, Victorinox Forester, and a surprise appearance by the Victorinox SwissTool Spirit X.
Pretty cool compass 😜
Haha finally someone gets my dry humour 😅👍🤙
In my view the best 111mm is the Outrider, saw, scissors and in-line Phillips screwdriver. Originally with the side-
lock, now with a liner lock, it is an excellent pocket tool.
The Spirit is a fantastic tool, even more “pocketable” than wider 111 mm tools. Mine nearly took over from my usual Huntsman/ Farmer X!
Hey Keith thanks for watching and thanks for your thoughts here in the comments! 👍🤙
I also love the 111-Victorinox knives. Thank you for your nice video!
That opening hole bump actually enhances grip when sawing-for many who use the saws a lot.
A marlin spike for self-defense? A trained pressure point expert, maybe. Otherwise, RUN!
Love those 111mm liner lock models too. And the 130mm.
Thanks for posting.
Cheers!
Lol true enough! 👍🤙
Love those Skippers! I just picked up a Danish Army model like these.
My two 111mm models are the Workchamp and Trekker. They're great for the outdoors, so a wood saw is a must for me. I like the non-serrated knife blade although mine is serrated.
Thanks for watching Tim 👍🤙
I’m a sucker for camo especially woodland camouflage. I really dig the first knife a lot. 👍🏻
Ya the camo suits the knife well 👍. Thanks Gary! 👍🤙
Great video, thanks. Love my 111mm Forester Wood SAK'S no one handed
Awesome video I recently got a 111mm Sentinel serrated. I have always been a 91mm guy but love the 111
Aren’t the serrations awesome!? Thanks for watching Mike 👍🤙
I just bought a Victorinox 130 mm Ranger 178. I love the thing! I got it in military green and black It's a fierce looking knife. Great video partner!! Keep em' coming!! Oh, by the way, I haven't finished watching it yet :)
Well, keep watching! I forgot about the 130mm line when I said the 111’s are the biggest. Fine, fine, yours is bigger lol.
@@stuartharvey2523 Thanks buddy, It's about 3 videos away :)
Thank you for the comparison video.
My pleasure! Thanks again for watching 👍🤙
I've always liked the wooden Forester 😊😊
Kinda classy right? 👍🤙
Actually Victorinox also make 130 mm models, based on old Wenger designs. Sadly, they don’t make the slide lock any more 😢
I love my one hand locksmith
It is not a compass. Just a picture of one! A real compass has a needle that always ponints to the north. And the 111mm is not the largest series of multitools they build. Check out the 130mm Rangergrip and Rangerwood series. Thanks for showing
Lol I was only joking about the compass 👍 Thanks very much for watching buddy! 👍🤙
The knife itself is the needle, all you have to do is point it in the right direction…
Thanks for the video. I have a few 91 and 93 alox. My recent acquisition is my first 111mm which is the Picnicker and to be honest it's my new favorite. I love the size of the blade and it fits in the hand very nicely. Now I'm looking on getting my next 111mm but with your video I just learned that serrated blade with chisel grind won't work for me because I'm a lefty, meaning I will be slicing and using the blade on the wrong side. Nice collection btw! Cheers! I will start looking for 111mm on the non-serrated blade only.
Hey, glad you enjoyed the video! I really like the 111mm SAKs. The Picnicker looks like a great option. Happy hunting for your new 111! 👍🤙
@7:50 too funny! Truth is it’s amazing that it’s not a real compass. LOL
Lol thanks for watching Joe! 👍🤙
@@theedcden5515 Definitely! Keep up the good work! 👍
The 111mm are the best. I’ve the Rescue Tool, Sentinel OHO, Trailmaster (Trekker), Alpineer, Hunter XT and Work Champ. The locking blades make them safer to use. I’d say the Skipper Pro is on my list!
Great video. I thought there was a SAK with a small rotating compass on the scales?
Some great looking models. I have a centurion which is an older liner lock version of the adventurer. It's a great model very nice edc option. Great collection of the 111mms. Great video 👍
The Centurion has the black scales, right? Looks really good in black. A great edc indeed! Thanks Jeremy 👍🤙
i have lettlermans, swisstools, saks but
centurion is the best in my opinion . because its compact and fits in my pocket. do not have any unnecessary tools. its my best edc of all time.
Looks good - I like the fish scaler and ruler tool on the Centurion. Thanks for watching 👍🤙
@@theedcden5515 there is no fish scaler or tools of centurion you was mistaken sir.
Okay..I just googled centurion and the image showed a ruler/fish scale remover. Maybe a different model. I wasn’t familiar with Centurion until you mention them, thanks 👍
How are ya now?? I was surrounded by Canadians this afternoon on a day trip to Mexico. Good to see a long video!
How are ya now?! Surrounded by Canadians ugh, poor you. lol take care buddy! 👍🤙
The marlin spike is not two pieces riveted, it is one piece made by a process known as MIM or metal injection molding. Basically powdered metal pressed into a mold and then removed from a mold and fired in a furnace to bond all of the particles into one piece without completely melting it. Hence you see the remnants of a parting line from the mold and the ejector pins are what pushes it free from the mold which leaves the little rivet looking circles.
Ahhhh good intel 👍
Is MIM the process used for many MultiTool plier heads too ?
It's used because you can create a more complex part than with drop forging right ?
Does it tend to be a brittle part due to the crystalline structure of the metal ?
Sorry for all the Q's, I've been wondering about this technique for years....
@@edwardfletcher7790 Yes it is the same process used on multi tools. The metallurgists claim there is no loss in ductility in this process but I have my reservations. Never broken a MIM part yet but, my intuition struggles to trust the process for some reason. I guess new things take time to adjust to.
@@cgprecision Thank you for your expertise 👍 There's been a great many people who've broken the plier head on their Skeletool or Phillips driver on their SOG that agree with you !!
FINALLY I know the name of the process that created them, thank you 👍
I only recently starting buying 111mm SAKS, a month ago I bought on Ebay a new in box rare Garant Nomad model with blue plus scales for $63 + shipping & have added it to my daily Gentleman's knife rotation of 93mm Pioneers / X's & 84mm Cadets . Today I put in an order on Ebay for a new in box & now rare discontinued side slide lock version of the 111mm Outrider in Black for $70 + shipping. I have for decades been a SAK collector & user but never ventured into the 111mm models & stuck to 58mm, 84mm, 85mm & 91mm models. The Outrider will fit into my PTK ( Pocket Tool Kit ) rotation which consists of a modified 91mm Huntsman ( IMO the Outrider is the nearest 111mm equivalent of it) & my other PTK SAK's are the 85mm Evolution EvoGrip S17 & S18. Probably I will not be buying anymore 111mm's as I have large number of Pioneers & X's & I don't really use them as a self defense knife anyway, for that I have a Microtech style 3.5 inch OTF knife .
Right on; those are great finds! Thanks for your input here and thanks for watching! 👍🤙
@@theedcden5515 Thank you for reply. I have Liked the video and Subscribed , I am Subscriber #643, good luck in growing your channel
Thanks for that! Really appreciate it Steve 👍🤙
A little long, but good.
Thanks
Welcome 👍🤙
I have at least one of each of these and the only thing that puzzles me are the ones that have, both, cammo scales and the gleaming shiny hardware you can see a mile away. My conclusion: it's a way to sell the piece, without any tactical consideration. And that's fine. If that's what the buyer wants, to each his or her own.
A good collection you have there. If I pick up a 111mm knife, I'll probably take the minimalist approach and get a Sentinel. The Spirit also looks like a great tool. Does it have locking teeth on the pliers?
Hey Dan, thanks. The Sentinel and the Adventurer are both great minimalist options 👍. The Spirit is a really nice tool but no, the pliers do not lock. Thanks for watching Dan! 👍🤙
Very nice! I like that Forester. Was it the Hunter max alox you were looking into? I have a Huntsman and a Bantam and have just ordered the 93mm Solo alox. Thanks have a great week!
Hey Michael, thanks! No, it was the 111mm Hunter. I have a Huntsman coming in soon 👍 The Bantam and Solo are sweet! Thanks for watching 👍🤙
It is said a multitool is a collection of mediocre tools but the trekker/soldier/outrider are the exception. All tools are exceptional blade centric tools.
Pliers the same goes for the Gerber MP600 bladeless or Havalon Evolve.
If you want a one tool stop the Leatherman Sidekick is best.
Well said - thanks for your thoughts 👍🤙
@@theedcden5515 The best 111mm SAK is the Outrider if you are only carrying or buying one tool (scissors and a LONG Philips for electronics or making awl holes bigger and deeper).
The biggest are the 130mm ones and they are the best one stop outdoors only tools best at fire making out there now that I have one and put it through 2 winters. All the Victorinox Delémont RangerGrip 55, 79, 155, 179 models have a better handle, bigger blade, and a superior saw more comparable to an actual specialized folding saw without the extra bulk and expense. For one tool outdoors carry be it hiking, camping, shelter making, or fire building it is exceptional and the Ranger wood model seems to pass the test for those touchy about knives. So far it gets treated more like a classy kitchen piece than a big knife and there has been none of that "multitool bro/lesbian" eyeroll or avoidance.
Forester should have a compass on it !
Very easy to resharp
Can you get the Skiper pro non serrated ?
No, I don’t think so.
umm ... 111mm isn't "[T]he largest folding tools Victorinox makes".
They make a few 130mm folding knives with tools. The Ranger Grip 55; 57; 58; 61; 63; 74; 78; 79; 178; and Boatsman are all 130mm with tools There is also the 130mm Ranger Grip Hunter and Hunter Pro that have a blade only.
Part of my EDC is the 111mm Hercules. You should seriously consider adding one to your collection/accumulation. 😁
So, the Adventurer is the new Nomad?
Hi, does the Tracker only come w a serrated blade presently?
Hey Frank I just checked a retailer here in Canada and it looks like they had a non serrated Trekker like mine but it’s now on back order
@@theedcden5515 Thanks. Last I read on Amazon they were serrated in comment in US. Maybe w demand they w make some more. Xmas approaching though. 🌝
I just have the outrider and the 2008 soldier for 111mm saks
Right on Ryan - those are great models 👍🤙
I can’t find any non serrated one hand trekker these days
My blue mariner model has a sail sew needle? Just a little different than yours!
Hey Randall, fantastic knives aren’t they! Thanks for watching 👍🤙
It annoys me Victorinox don't do plus scales for the 111mm or scale tools for the Walnut option😕
It's strange to me, seeing the Trekker with saw and philips instead of the corkscrew.
Is it a military specification ?
I've got a Picknicker (Slide lock Adventurer with corkscrew.)
Victorinox are correct with the serration location for Bushcraft.
The keyring conflicts with the marlin spike location on the Pro. But I understand why they wouldn't make a unique keyring layer for a single model.
I've got an old slide lock Hercules, it's a fantastic SAK for home DIY and Electronics hobbyists. The long phillips for recessed screws is pretty much unique in the SAK/Multitool universe.
Hey thanks for your thoughts here 👍🤙
@@theedcden5515 Cheers 😆
How is it a functioning compass?
I was only joking 🙃
👍🤙
The Dutch Bushcraft Knife guys have reviewed a Victorinox...🤔
Cool, haven’t seen their vids. I’ll check them out. Thanks Sebastian 👍🤙
You mean murdered a Victorinox haha
I cannot understand why you would want a camo pattern on an outdoors knife.
I hear you. Not sure why Victorinox has it as an option. I think many people ended up with the camo version when they couldn’t find another colour. I think they had a Trekker in black?? Might have had the serrated blade though.
@@theedcden5515 Yep, I picked up a great Olight flashlight (Warrior 2) in a second-hand store, but it's a ridiculous camo pattern. I guess it's to cater to the "tacti-cool" crowd, but it's thoroughly impractical for and item you would be reaching for in a tricky situation only to struggle to find it ;) (especially if dropped somewhere in the wilderness).
Just googled your olight. Looks really nice! But yes, impractical lol. Ah well. Just don’t drop it!?
Im sorry, but victorinox does make bigger folding multitool knives... the old wenger ones...
Does it happens to you too? Everytime i am looking at Victorinox knives, i tell myself "Shame, this - insert tool name - is missing. This - insert the tool name - is certainly useless to me, i would rather have - insert the tool name - instead." With such broad selection of tools Victorinox may make great deal, if they would offer custom set of tools. There would be limits, how much and which tools can specific knife variant have, but the rest would be at the decision of the customer.
Ok shackles key!!!
That's not a compass on the knife it's a decal.
Please buy a real compass if you go into the woods!
Is not the biggest...
I got lost in the sea and died because of this skipper compass. Don't trust this guy!
