The solder connections need to be smoother to insure good connect. A good precaution is to first test on a program track with low voltage to see if you have good electrical connectivity before trying on a test track with full voltage. you lose less decoders that way use the smoke test.
Kato did NOT make that job easy. The more and more issues I have with the overall reliability of DCC and Sound I'm just more inclined to go back to DC. Although DCC control tends to be fairly good these days. Or at least you can't hear it skip, lol. 60% of the time it works every time! Great video, Peter!
Hi Shane! To be fair, the fact that someone had made a bad attempted to install DCC before I got this unit as a non runner, bending the contact strips a little and wearing out the mounts for them in the process, did not help things. Also, this was the "old" version of the Kato P42, The new one has to extra guides to make sure the contact lines stay in place which would have stopped most of issues I had with the dcc install. Thinking about it, I should have seen if i could have just bought guides and put them in place. Thanks for watching!
The Weller soldering station I have is twice the size of the mini USB iron i was using. The zoom on the camara makes it look bigger. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for all you do! I grew up seeing Alco RS-1, 2 and or RS-3's of the LS&I ore hauling railroad a few hundred feet from my childhood home.

Your soldering iron is too big! Get the Weller Soldering Station. You will love it.
