The accelerator has an odd thing of once it attacks a tower, it attacks it until it dies, then it moves on to whatever the first enemy is and so on and so forth, which is why when a slow boss is getting attacked and few faster enemies get past, the accelerator only attacks the fast ones when the boss has died. The purpose of it is to be able to absolutely disintegrate bosses, which is why it does this, I think.
Military base doesn't care about map though, and accelerator had a perfect circle to shoot them through, accelerator needs slowing towers like sledger or toxic gunner to maximize its DPS.
Believe it or not, there's one time when 5 scouts and 2 hunters I put saved me and a bunch of other players from a hidden boss. Believe me, starter towers help us sometimes.

It doesnt really matter about the hp, cause there’s so much more hp in the enemies than your entire base hp and so that the odds are so maliciously low that clutching will prob not happen with hp.
