      I don't know that I agree. It could be anything. For instance, an animation/cycle change, so you get 2x each 24s, or something... But I do hope it turns out to be like this, as you say, double the output while halving the cycle. But then it begs the questions: can you stack 250% and double output for 5x? What is the power penalty? Is the boost a consumable? Is there a material penalty?

      I've been thinking the same thing. I doubt it is an ore because that would go into a manufacture, like it does in Satisfactory Plus.

      Using the Mercer Spheres for wireless power would be quite disappointing. Mercer Spheres are quite rare, and it wouldn't revolutionize anything or change the gameplay in any way. They look too impressive for this. imho

      So... they shot down the entire lore of the game (quite promising and a lot of hype) and in return they make the mercer sphere and sommerslope ..... a new kind of power slug??? wireless power ???? So heartbreaking IMO.

    My theory is that we are using alien resources to make our factories more effecient.
    We use power slugs to speed up the production cycle (indicated by the light pole),
    We use somersloops to multiply the output per cycle (indicated by the purple gas)
    We use mercer spheres to reduce the power consumption per cycle (indicated by the purple color at the power connector).

    I think Somers loop and Mercer Sphere are variations on the Möbius Strip (loop) and the Klein Bottle (sphere). You have to go around twice on a möbius strip to be back at point A in starting orientation. So using it to "duplicate" production makes sense. As for the mercer Sphere I hope like the Klein Bottle they would allow to interact with a pocket dimension (thus allowing teleportation)

    Now that you mention it, the shard in the, well, power shards- always kinda looked like a helix - like a somersloop.

    I think the mercer or the sometloop will be used as shards so the machines can process Sam ore derivatives.

    I think the idea is that you use the same machines, but you feed in one of these new items into the input and it boosts their output temporarily without increasing their resource utilization. So basically you can build a system that creates 100 items per minute normally, then one of these little crystal doodads into it and boom it's making 200 or 250 per minute for the same amount of power, same amount of raw material. You can build a factory that supercharges every other factory in the game by mass producing these things.
    this works with or without power slugs because power slugs require more power and more items. So if your line is already running 250% with power slugs, it'll now be running at like 500% for the same resource costs at 250%

      Consuming a Somersloop or Mercer Sphere for a temprary effect in combo with Somersloops and Mercer Spheres being a finite non-renewable resource would never work as a Game Mechanic Idea... that would be very not awesome as it would make Somersloops and Mercer Spheres "Too Awesome to Use" TVTrope-style. :(

    We have seen the purple power shard like item. It's a purple crystal with a helix. I think we put that in where power shards go and it'll duplicate items or something.

    I do firmly believe that the purple sparks coming from machines is just a purely cosmetic thing that indicates that a S.A.M. Type of Material is being processed.
    Like that it shows how powerful S.A.M. ore really is to the point of tempering with the machines.

      But the manufacturer in the teaser video was making computers, which isn't using any SAM related components. That theory doesn't make sense

      This makes no sense since it was the modified computer recipe that was being processed by that manufacturer. And since that recipe produces 1 computer at a time and we see 2 computers at once exiting the manufacturer, my guess would be some upgrade-material like a power shard makes the smoke go purple and that new material can be made out of SAM ore. The power shards make the building work faster but that new item doubles the output product (and presumably makes it consume twice as much as well) in a single production cycle, effectively reducing the size of your factories and increase performance of the game overall since you only need half of the buildings to produce the same stuff.

    That would be an awesome move by CFS, the items are a bit of a pain to get to early game, but making the reward > risk is a super cool idea.

    Somersloops will be able to put in machines just like slugs shards to over clock, they are unstable to use as power network just alter the output of power to fix. Mercers are for teleportaion devices including stock items and personal transport.

    Another thing I just realised. All the recipes that didn't have a machine name for the "produced in" section of the alt recipes, are either made in the Refinery or Foundry. And I don't know about you guys, but I didn't see any of those machines in the trailer at all! Does that mean they are getting a remodel or simply being replaced with something else?
    I went back to the trailer to see if I could see where the Plastic was coming from, and it's coming from under the platform everything is built on, but the platform is only 2 foundations high. Last time I checked, refineries are quite a bit taller than just two 4m foundations. So that means Snutt either just put a storage bin under the platform and spawned in plastic for the sake of the video, or its coming from a new building that he's hiding for now.

      Oh please yes, i really want them to do something about that. I really really hate refineries. To be specific the building itself is neat, i like that its used for oil processing and stuff like that. But i really hate that it has so freaking many recepies that you have to use all the time. Especially the pure recepies. And its so freaking huge, especially in hight. I have always wanted them to just make like a mini refinery specifically for those pure recepies.
      And in terms of the Foundry i think the opposite, its such a neat looking building, but besides making steel and aluminum, i dont really remember myself using it that much.

      @@Shantykoff Yeah something like that. Just some smaller machine that has a belt and pipe input. It could still use a lot of power like refineries if that is their balance concern, but i just want something that looks different than the large refinery

      I saw a train station as part of this complex, so I'm willing to believe the plastic is made elsewhere. We also see a plutonium waste drum go by but no apparent nuclear reactor for it to be made in.

    I think it's possible the wires turning purple is another form of boost. Instead of putting the mercer sphere or sloop in the machine itself, you would put it in a machine that then boosts all surrounding machines connected to the same network.

    I do not think wireless power is going to happen. But maybe the mercer sphere being a power related mod to a machine could be a thing, like reduce power costs to run?

    So perhaps I am alone with this unpopular opinion, but if teleportation is a thing (which the trailer strongly hints that it is), I am worried that it will make the world feel a lot smaller (a bit like when they allowed flying in WoW), especially if you are able to send belts and pipes through teleportation or portals or whatever, it will make trains, drones and everything else redundant. I guess I am just a bit sad because I always liked having tracks for automated trains, and then a separate network for player driven trains.

    It does make sense. Since they changed the Somersloop graphic to look like it's "growing" from some sort of alien plant. Maybe they regrow over a period of time like Beryl nuts or Paleberries?

    I already have a quantum computer and a superposition oscillator, no cheats. I got it from ficsmas here are their descriptions:
    Superposition Oscillator: "A Superposition Oscillator is an oscillator circuit that uses the mechanical resonance of a vibrating crystal to create a string vibration with a precise frequency. Often used in teleportation technology and dimensional manipulation"
    Quantum Computer: "Uses quantum bits instead of normal bits which makes it much faster than a traditional computer"

    I think you are right for the most part. However I don't think the power cable is a red herring. Rather I think you'll be able to slot one of the alien artifacts (or an item produced by them) and it will generate a flat amount of power and protect that specific machine from shutting down in the event of a fault. So while you could in principle use it to have a machine off-grid, usually the artifact will generate more power than an individual machine needs and thus will be used to feed power back into the grid.

    Since they are "finite" resources, like slugs, I do think they will be some kind of insert-able mod. Though I wouldn't assume they are going to add more slots. You might have to choose between a power shard or a mercer shard or a sloop shard or some combination of the 3.

    All those Alt Recipes where available before you coild use them. You could make concrete, so you could get the Wet Concrete recipe, even though you didn't have access to refineries.

    But what if the Somersloop is for item doubling and the Mercer Sphere is for power halving? There might be more slots in the building so you can pick which upgrades you want. The Mercer Sphere does look like it has some sort of electricity coming out of it and that relates to the power connection on the constructor.

    If power shards speed up production, and if the sloop doubles production, maybe the Mercer lessens energy cost? That's the 3 components to a machine/recipe output, yes? How fast, how many, and how much power. (As pointed out, we don't know if the inputs are affected by the sloop. For argument, let's assume input is unaffected.) If so, though, I don't think there will be 3 slots, as that would OP any machine.

    I believe that there’d be a way to create a new type of power shard that will literally double up a machine’s production. It would even work on machines fully overclocked with regular power shards.

    i wonder if the purple mist stuff helps makes machines use less power. would explain why it's radiating off of the power points. there's always been a back and forth on whether or not satisfactory overclocking should be liner or not. both sides make good points. feel like keeping it as is but creating a separate item that can ease the power consumption at higher tiers would be a good compromise. or imagine if they have shards themselves that have difference bonuses if you combine items with them :O

    You sounds very convincing and plausible. So one item (somersloop) is for buff for any machine and spheres is for cube machines that produces gas from nothing (actually spheres)

    I'd say the Mercer spheres are upgraded slugs to make upgraded power shards. New power shard would act like Beacons in Factorio. Where it effects an area of the same type of machine. Notice no duplicates of the machine with purple smoke? They are hiding the effect by not having duplicate machines in a line cause it would be too obvious otherwise.
    That's my guess.

    It's a quantum superposition buff to the constructor. Gives you the possibility of outputting an extra item, like in Factorio.

    On cordless power. Suppose the Somersloop or whatever producing power can provide enough to run several machines? Then you would have cables, but they would only be connecting the three or four that are all "self powerered?"
    Just speculating.

    Very very small thing, as I also read it as Somersloop (sum-er-sloo-p), however I have seen it be suggested that it is instead Somersloop (Sum-ers-loop), which vastly changes the contextual meaning

    I don't think it will be a doubling of production, that would be too much. Probably more like Factorio it will tick up a progress bar during production which will yield another production unit when completed.
    And as for the other of the two, my guess is that it will reduce power consumption, which would be why it has a purple effect on the power connector. My guess is that there will be additional slots in the UI for these both, underneath the overclocking section.

    I think the Summer Sloop or Mercer Spheres will be an input item that doubles the production output just not the cycle time.

    I really hope there is less refinery spam in 1.0. Also, the metallic finish on the Particle Accelerators and pipes intrigues me. With a lot of the lighting effects (metallic finishes, sun gleaming off surfaces) I wonder if that is a hardware lumen hint...

    I'm sure no one will ever read this comment, but I suspect that the past cataclysm reduced some planet-scale *thing* into plasma, which cooled and coalesced into the loops and spheres. The environment has attempted to adapt to these new objects. We're building machines to reassemble them into their pre-cataclysm spacetime-altering material, drawing this timeline closer to the planets origins, creating a change which we can exploit for teleportation. That "weird purple gas" is definitely not gas, it's superheated plasma, which would require a LOT of energy to create/sustain/transport, hence the new class of pipes and ridiculous phase 5 power requirements.

    It sorta looks like there could be another slot for items just to the right of the overclock panel, could be a new item that duplicates the output.

    Biggest problem is, that the somers loops and mercer spheres are very limited in numbers. Slugs are far more common.
    Currently I can't decide if I want to block all content about satisfactory when 1.0 hits, so I have an unspoiled experience, or not.

      I would personally not block the information about 1.0 (except story related), because i believe it would end up with you just not experiencing anything new for many hours. Im pretty sure most of the new stuff is going to be in the very late game or maybe some aspects in mid game.
      But thats just my opinion, if you really want to go as blind as you can, i wouldnt stop you

    The frames produce 2 at a time when its overclocked. I did 3 last night overclocked to 111.1111 and got two frames per cycle at a time.

    Quantum tech = Quantum entanglement = teleportation
    Im thinking theres a 2nd power souce you need for the higher amerage draw of the machines that are building quantum tech. Thats why some power poles are purple at the top

    Hey totalxclipse! Time to put the thinking cap on again!
    On yesterdays dev stream the devs were kind of disappointed that no one noticed the biomass burners on the teaser, at 2:03 (on the original video, not this one). Apparently is something new that everybody missed. You are smarter... any ideas?
    Maybe somersloop being burnt for extra efficiency? That might be related to the purple steam we are seeing? No idea, you are smarter!

      They also insisted several times that there were no mk6 belts. This might have been a joke though. But still makes me think that either somersloop or mercer spheres might go on miners, increasing the speed up to the first splitter/ machine. We will probably find out more this Friday

      I was in the stream - I think it was a joke about the biomass generators (which are in the recent teaser video at the end) they suggested there was something else though, but who knows if they watched this video? As for the T6 belts they were saying we were all assuming they're MK6. Rather than denying that they were MK6 belts

    Very interesting theory.
    On another side, about the copper/gold pipes we saw, my taught is that this will not be a different skin, but rather a new setting of the customizer.
    For example, you could set one of your color to be more reflective/metallic/etc.
    What makes me think of that is that you can clearly see that some buildings, like the particle accelerator, uses the same copper color as the pipe, leading me to believe that this is a new addition to the custom color parameters.
    What's your taught?

      I'm thinking It's a metallic paint option now rather than a new material, that way it can be applied to buildings

    Considering that Somers Loop could be read as "bring back somewhere" on top of the Somersloop's animation has energy being pulled into it I think you are right in it being used for teleportation. So with that theory looks like the Mercer Sphere is most likely the duplication item

    I bet they had the belt at mk 6 but for the sake of the video they deleted it, it finished two computers in that time and then, resulting in two computers showing when they put in the mk 1 belt.

    ...and if that's the case then I will be greatly happier in my game that I have continued with my own world and have not started a new one because with these last couple of latest updates the world has been replenished fully with new collectibles and I've gone thru and done what I can to get them all. I've got multiple full chests of all the power shards, spheres and loops, well over what would be in just one game to deal out what I may when 1.0 drops.

    New recipe: power Shard + somersloop + quantum items + higher level slugs? = power shard mk 2 that boosts item output by 50% per shard but doesn't boost clock. Maybe a mk 3 that does both items and speed.

    So with this theory you believe that this new item would function like the Proliferation in Dyson Sphere Program and Productivity modules in Factorio? Where basically every couple of production cycles gets and additional output product, resulting in better efficiency of Input to output?
    I guess it could make sense (well the fact that 2 computers come out of the Manufacturer when the recepie should be outputing 1, definitelly means something), but how would it be ballanced? They have always stated that balancing the amount of resources in the world has been really important to them. Letting the player get extra product in every step of the production chain feels like it would break things. It works fine in DSP and Factorio because resources there are finite, so doing this improves the efficiency of utilizing the limited resources. But thats not the case for Satisfactory. I guess it could be something that only works in couple of buildings or recepies

    I think you hit the nail on the head or if not you hit the finger holding the nail. The late game need for huge factories is a problem with the game both for performance and as a turn off to a lot of gamers. By creating a different way to scale up it both increases performance of the game and reduces the (sometimes) overwhelming complexity and problem with people quitting when their huge factory has some problem they cant figure out. Factories will still need to be huge just not mega

    Mr. Eclipse, I think you're overly fixated on teleportation. You were sure the "quantum encoder" which is clearly a manufacturing machine was a teleporter. I'll believe this game has teleportation when I see a thing disappear in one place and reappear in another.
    I wonder if somersloops and mercer spheres will be used to make different kinds of power shards that have different effects, similar to the way Factorio handles it? Like if they scrapped the idea they had for their story involvement and then went that way with them.
    There is a new building revealed in this trailer, that big geodesic dome thing that goes clunk clunk clunk. It looks like it produces the green fluid, and also the gold ingots from caterium, aluminum and the purple juice. I imagine this thing is going to be called a Forge or Furnace or Crucible or something, and will be used to produce advanced ingots along with maybe some alternate recipes that would have once been done in a Foundry or Refinery. I think this building is going to have three belt and one pipe input, meaning it could do things that the Blender can't do.

    I think they will just be capable of being manufactured into a better form of the Power Shards. The purple visual is just an aesthetic to remind the player where these important shards are.

    My personal theory is that the purple gas is evidence that CCS joint forces with the FNAF franchise to figure out their lore, meaning the purple machines are possessed by William Afton and or Children.
