I have to add one thing that I've noticed and one reason why I breed my own seeds instead of buying from what they call reputable breeders. What I've noticed over the course of 2 years is some of these big breeders for seeds are creating smaller autoflowers to where you need to buy more seeds to get the QP weight if you know what I mean. It's quite ridiculous. One reason why I went into breeding and haven't stopped. I've created some really good varieties.
Ebb and flow or dutch bucket is my favorite system you dont have to worry about runoff oroverwatering. 100% automated and i breed beneficial bacteria and add media amendments giving me the best of both hydro and soil worlds. The medium is recycled. The only downside that i can think of is that it requires a bigger size res to start with but the fertilizer is recycled for 2 weeks or more do it is water efficient. I use the remaining ferts on my garden and it flourishes because of that.
When I water I bottom feed, i use 5 gallon pots with plant trays, 1.5-2 litres per plant, half goes into the soil and almost half goes into the tray and gets wicked up. I feed every other day
It's really hard to "handle" huge amounts of soil because it can be very hard to get the right dry-wet cycle that pushes the plant as strong as possible, if the plant fights against wettness, it can almost completely shut down growth until it's roots are healthy again.
This is the type of thing i was doing with phasing the light intensity of a 450 watt flu spectrum in a 4x4.
