My cats are good guard alerts. A friend came home to find his TV on the yard and door open. They found the burglar at the hospital for scratches all over his face. Go Pablo!
I'm really just struck again by your commitment to working with Abby and training her to be a good bird guard dog. She definitely lacks a certain temperament and aptitude, but that hasn't stopped you from working with her and trying to mould her into a good worker. It's really nice to see
Abby is still young. She's a puppy, and puppies require work. She still has her puppy energy. I think she'll work out to be an excellent working dog. She seems to simply need the consistent training Morgan is giving her, and she'll be an excellent farm dog. Her energy is a good thing, as when there is a threat, she'll have the energy and enthusiasm to take care of business. Higher energy dogs take more work to train, but when you direct her energies in the right direction, they ultimately make the best farm dogs and will do the work for you. She is a very smart dog. She pays attention to everything around her and to what Morgan does with her. Sure, she plays too, but that's because she's a puppy, and in part her personality. She's different than Toby, that she's female, and that she has different interests and is younger, too. She's quite an amazing young dog. 😍 She's come a long way, and she's still learning. Teaching dogs problem-solving skills is far better than only commands. As Morgan said, you have to teach them not just to follow commands but also why they need to do what you want them to do. Animals are FAR more intelligent than most people give them credit. Talking to them, as if they are children, and from a very young age makes a HUGE difference in their successes as they get older. I always think it's interesting when a human gets hurt, and a dog will go to get help from another human, and people are surprised. Socialization, training, "conversations" (talking to them), and love between you and them go a VERY long way to these incidents. They are far more common than many people think).
It was nice to see/hear Abby doing her guard duties. Especially when she spotted the danger BEFORE Toby. Thanks for including that segment. Keep up the good work.

Slumber party!! This was fun; thanks for sharing. Sleeping on straw bales was probably much warmer than sleeping in the hammock would have been, because you would have been surrounded by cold air in the hammock. One of the first rules of sleeping outdoors is to have something more than just a sleeping bag between you and the ground.
@@GoldShawFarm yes that was hilarious Morgan!!! As a matter of fact I don't think I've laughed so much at one of your videos!! I think it's safe to say that this is my top three favorite video of yours!!! Well done Morgan!! Well done!!!!!
@@GoldShawFarm It's comical her breeder demonizes you when to be very blunt on many other farms Abby would've been kicked to the curb / dumped on the side of the road or sent to a kill shelter. I've watched since she joined & majority she shows limited value as a LGD & I say that from a family who has kept LGDs (sheep & cattle) for 70 years. As a family pet she's okay. @@gingerbaker4579 I agree that the “house dogging” of working breeds is a real problem. And yeah, Abby is a bit more of a companion than I would like for an LGD. That was core reason I had her spayed. Of course, all that said, I absolutely love that dog.
I hope he did that for the laugh. I hope he didn't think a hammock there made any sense at all. I think it was a set up; he had the hay bales nice and handy, just the right amount. Still, it was funny.

I love this view into your life on the farm! The night video with the dear, coyote, and wild cats made me smile. Please keep sharing your life like this. You are making a difference.
Taking a moment and spending time in nature is a good way to reset the clocks. In our modern life we need an adjustment time just to recuperate. This is especially true with those of us who have careers that pull them in multiple directions.
All these stars in the sky, it's so beautiful! These days the Canada Geese fly over our town by the hundreds. It's like we're a resting station. In the morning they fly East to find the fields and spend the day feeding and resting. At around 7pm they fly in the other direction to get to the lakes where they all gather and sleep for the night. There are so many of them that we can hear the gazoos even if they're miles away. In a few days they will all be gone to a warmer region, probably somewhere in the US.
Should you make round with the mower on the outside of your fence b4 winter sets in. JUST to clear the area and make weasels, skunk, mink and other little varmints easier for the dogs to notice.
It was a good night. No dead birds in the morning so good sign for Abby. Maybe not cost-effective, but night vision goggles (no flashlight) paired w/night vision camera (trail cam?) would be great for these kinds of vids. Keep the trail cam on you when you sleep too so we can see the dogs cuddle you. Would also love more w/the dogs. Remember those ‘day in the life’ vids you did way back? Floof mode vs Beast mode? We need more Toby. :)
Maybe an air mattress next time will be more comfortable, the hammock was funny though, and I'm not too sure how comfortable that would have been. Toby and Abby must have enjoyed the company. Thanks Morgan, always good to see what's shaking at Gold Shaw Farm.
An air mattress outside is asking for it to be flat in the morning. Foam would be better at that point, or even natural material like loam and pine branches. Also, anyone who's spent time overnight outdoors knows you want more between you and the ground/ air than your bag/ blanket... and an air mattress would condense with the cold and be a heat sink.
You are correct, lol, thinking about the location the conditions etc. it makes a lot more sense to have a memory foam mattress and the other things you mentioned. Cheers and have nice weekend!
To quote Henry David Thoreau, " I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." Sounds like your life motto to me.
Abby seems to be more of an inside/house dog. She craves interaction and attention where Toby likes it but doesn’t need it nearly as much. They’re so different in that regard. I think she would love living in the house, but Tody would get bored with it and just want to be outside doing what he’s made to do.
I would love to see a documentary about your farm, Morgan. I imagine it would be called 'The little farm that could." Although you do a great job of showing us all what day to day life is like on the farm. I bet we would find out all kind of things about you that would surprise us. You are such a sweetie, very thoughtful and caring with the animals on your farm. But you can be very stubborn and persistent as well. You remind me of my late and sweet little Chihuahua, Paco. He was the snuggliest little creature ever, but it did not matter what you would say to him or how serious you were when telling him to stop barking. He would still come out with that quiet little "Buff" just to have his say. Just like you when dealing with the bear thing. Kudos for you for getting your 'Buff' out there and not backing down. You're a great farmer.
You should buy a night vision monocular or binocular. Amazing tool for anyone living rual/forest. You’ll learn so much more about what’s really going on around you at night.
I love how you acknowledge that you ARE eating your animals, feeding them to their former guardians, and how you thanked Kurt for what he provides you. (The majority of your fowl have no names or it's rarely mentioned that few would know who you're talking about.) This is what farming is all about. Sure people eat the eggs from their chickens, ducks, etc. but that's just not the same type of acknowledgement. I'm so glad to know that you are going to use Kurt's head and hide, too. Don't let anything of him go to waste! And I love that Alison is in charge of your crops. She may not be involved in the animals that much, but she does have input into other aspects of the farm.
That was great. I love the fact that you're sleeping with the dogs . the geese are swimming at night and your cattle, beautiful cattle. love those long horns. Thank you for sharing you have a great farm.
A few years ago I went to theropy. Helped me deal with life at the time. I think after staying the night out with the dogs, your getting an idea of what they do at night.
As I retired counselor I agree that therapy helps. I have had people that were quite anti it when they started and after a while they looked forward to our appointments. I have seen people come a long way, and it's their achievement, their work. I just listen
I know that it was mentioned that Toby and Abby are working dogs, but their body language with the favorite human indicates that they know they are cared for and loved. I live near the eastern coast of the U.S. so I KNOW mosquitoes. It does depend on the year, but maybe try early September for sleepovers? While we do have a week or two of Spring weather, but it is hard to catch that one!😉

Thanks for your transparency about using therapy. This will help a lot of people.
You should buy a night vision monocular or binocular. Amazing tool for anyone living rual/forest.
You’ll learn so much more about what’s really going on around you at night.
I actually have one. I forgot to charge it before going out for the night. If people like these, I might make another night video soon.
put a night vision camera on the dogs
oh yes, please do
@@GoldShawFarm Pablo's late night floating kazoo orchestra!
It was cool seeing the cat involved like that. Does he follow Toby?
@@GoldShawFarm We definitely like them! :D
This video was just ❤the night footage and the dogs doing their work was really great and fun to see
I love how you acknowledge that you ARE eating your animals, feeding them to their former guardians, and how you thanked Kurt for what he provides you.
What a beautiful shot of the starry night sky!
A few years ago I went to theropy. Helped me deal with life at the time. I think after staying the night out with the dogs, your getting an idea of what they do at night.
Time lapse shots of farm were gorgeous
Really enjoyed the time lapse segments of the night and morning sky.
As I retired counselor I agree that therapy helps. I have had people that were quite anti it when they started and after a while they looked forward to our appointments. I have seen people come a long way, and it's their achievement, their work. I just listen
That cloud time-lapse footage was 👌
I know that it was mentioned that Toby and Abby are working dogs, but their body language with the favorite human indicates that they know they are cared for and loved. I live near the eastern coast of the U.S. so I KNOW mosquitoes. It does depend on the year, but maybe try early September for sleepovers? While we do have a week or two of Spring weather, but it is hard to catch that one!😉
It makes it more macabre and entertaining that Abby had that reaction to Kurt's liver. RIP, you were enjoyed.
You have Northern Lights?! That was the MOST exciting thing of all.
Lol. I enjoyed this. It's always fun hanging out with dogs.
The time lapse of the sky at night was so cool!!
What a great video Morgan. The Time lapse shots were soooo cool. Overall ur channel is getting so visually stunning. I've always loved ur content but ur video skills have just been growing so fast. Much love from Hershey Pennsylvania
Thoroughly enjoyed this! Thanks! I think some trail cam footage found its way in to your sleepover video. 🤠
Thanks for sharing your overnight adventure Morgan. It was quite magical to see the stars and watch the sun come up. It's something us city dwellers don't see often.
