Cant belive I just found out the father of video game after 13 YEARS OF MY LIFE!
hes like the vincent van goh of gaming needs way more credit and recognition
The father of home video games has passed away at age 92. Read more here: bit.ly/12ZMen8
I wonder if he regrets it looking around and seeing all these fat miserable depressed suicidal children I wish many times a year video games were not made for home use ever since the American population got home access they have become extremely overweight extremely emotional extremely angry sad sad world we live in and video games are quite evident a heavy influence to some of these problems don't get me wrong I'm not blaming video games whatsoever 100% but they are a large contributing factor to obesity laziness that we have a current wave a very on educated and uncreative children forgive me for the improper spelling my auto text is all messed up and my fingers are to big for the virtual keyboard
tennismediadynamics Correlation doesn't equal causation.
I think i may be related to this guy. Similar background and my dad looked exactly like him.
tennismediadynamics and wheres your evidence? to the fact that video games cause depression and suicidal behavior?
+Tezuni only some of them.
this man is a living embodiment of Awesome, may he rest in peace.
oh wow that sentence
He's dead ._.
@@TacoLimade no shit
I really wish we got to hear his opinion on modern video games
He didn't really seem to care about video games all that much. He sounds much more business oriented.
Aaronnoraator Yeah it seemed as if he was more into electronic toys than video games. Even the Odyssey was just sheets of thin plastic with 2 specially coded white squares on the screen. At least now they don't try to market video game consoles as "Learning Machines" though there is leapfrog and plenty of "learning" games in the marketplace.
Aaronnoraator He was an engineer. Solving problems was a game to him.
Aaronnoraator
I dont think that he "didn't care about videogames".... he was an innovator. not a game developer.. he was just telling us his accomplishments. and one of those developing one the first game consoles the magnovox oddesy.
Aaronnoraator
dude looked like he was in his late 70s. you think he pays attention to all that shit? he has lived in a completely different generation than us.
As a researcher on electronic gaming history and culture, a man of science, and as a man of electronic gaming who has been playing electronic games for almost 25 years, (it’ll officially be 25 years this November) this is just an awesome piece of reference material for anyone who is interested in learning about the man who literally created the world’s first electronic game in history.
While I unfortunately never met this man, that doesn’t mean I’ll ignore his outstanding legacy.
He invented the most important and iconic part of electronic gaming history, the classic game of Simon, which is still going on today, to the point where there’s a retro version of the game that came out last year.
Going strong for almost HALF A CENTURY, Simon will be remembered by millions of people forever, as will Ralph Baer himself.
This is a literal documentary of the most important part of electronic gaming history.
He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.
He had so many great ideas, if the multitudes of Simon games he invented are any indication.
I’m currently working on a little project dedicated to Simon’s history, starting from the original, to where it is now.
All I can say is, thank you Ralph for leaving behind such an awesome legacy, and for inventing arguably the most recognizable game in existence.
You are very much missed, not just by me, but by my fellow electronic gamers, as well as the millions of people who grew up with Simon.
Thank you for everything.

From what I have gathered from his wiki, is this guy pretty much birthed the Idea of Video Gaming. Mr. Baer could in a way forsee online gaming and online shopping @6:15 he mentions this as well what turned into online activities! Although he saw these as a "TV" activity, a moniter for online shopping and gaming is close enough! RIP MR. BAER
Howd did you know he dies
Thank you ! Rest in Peace !
Hard to imagine that the world’s first video game console was actually so brilliantly designed and developed from the ground up. It really lays down the foundation for all entertainment systems today.
This man saves lives from boredom and real life issues R.I.P Ralph Baer
His name will be in the history books for ages.
Great video. Amazing human being. America was built in the minds of guys like this. Love it.
My dad will love this guy
He was making automotive digital diagnostic equipment in the 70s and 80s
Engineering costs where 40k to 80k on some products
Also American production factories where "assholes" they wouldn't deal with small production runs of $100k
So he built everything in China he said they where the only ones who wanted to work.
He sold most of his product to the french & the military
HIs equipment basically did what other diagnostic equipment would do but much much cheaper & more portable as they where hand devices.
LEGEND!!
RIP Such a kind and amazing person :)
RIP. you will be rememberd as a amazing legend. :(
RIP Ralph, you have no idea how big of an effect your concept had on my life! You will be missed

RIP good sir. I and many others say "Thank You!!" for you wonderful inventions.
I loved the Simon Says game growing up, in addition to many others. May he R.I.P. and he sure did live a long time, wow!
I really wish I could've met this guy I have massive respect for the makers of the first few video games and what they had to go through
A man who lived life because he did what he loved and loved what he did, only knew of this man's name before this video and today I study a course for which he helped lay the foundations for. Nothing but respect for people who follow their dreams and see them through in the hopes of benefiting the world in some way, even if the contribution is minor.
The fact that he invented the idea of convenient, online shopping is just pure genius. I wish more companies considered his ideas because I think we'd be much farther ahead in online technology. A Legend indeed.
Thank you for being curios, creative and for not giving up.
