    Good review. Sports VR switches off horizontal stabilisation for panning, it's not like "active" VR which you describe. I've got the 80-400 which has active VR and the 200-500 which has Sports VR and they are quite different.

    This is a fantastic review video. Very clear presentation and professionally done not to mention a host that is not boring. Im looking for a cheaper (Relative) lens for wildlife photography to be paired with the D750. Pls. have this lens tested with teleconverters available from nikon. I will highly appreciate it.

    Thanks for the great video. Trying to decide between this and lugging around the heavy 2.8 :) But we do mostly travel photography and the portability of this lens seems amazing!

    Thanks! I just bought this lens today. I'm looking forward to it 'living' on my D750 for all kinds of purposes. I'm especially impressed with its capabilities as a portrait lens, I've never been convinced that 85mm is the 'perfect' lens for portraits (though, I do have that lens as well).

      hi Mat.
      Can you show me some samples of full portrait, full couple portrait pictures? please.
      maybe you can make some comparison between 85mm 1.4 or 1.8 to 300 f4.
      I'm looking for lens which give me similar DOF results to my manual 120mm 1.8, but I need AF version. 85mm 1.8 is a great lens but best for half body portrait only. www.flickr.com/photos/mathewstreet/28074286282/in/dateposted-public/

    how was (is) this lens in low light? i understand the 2.8 may have an advantage, but would like to hear your opinion in low light scenes.

    Hi Denis, great video! I have a 70-300 VR lens on the way and although it is slower than the 300 f4, I am hoping that I can use use it for portraits and wildlife with decent results. BTW, I tried to check out your website but I am getting a message that your domain name has expired. Cheers!

    Nice video Denis. Unfortunately you've made me want this lens!! I've also just purchased a D750 and think it's an incredible camera and with this lens it looks great.
    Out of interest, did you try the lens on your V2?? I'd love tosee what that combo can produce.

    • @DenisRule
      @DenisRule  9 років тому +1

      Carmen Clark Hi Carmen, No unfortunately I did not try it on the V2, that would have been fun. I will be getting the lens again for another episode so I will put that on my to do list. Enjoy your D750 it certainly is a game changer camera.

    Have you tested the 300m 2.8g if so how did you find it in comparison and which one would you go for?

    • @DenisRule
      @DenisRule  9 років тому +1

      Hi Joshua, As a matter of fact I do own a 300mm f2.8 ED AFS-I the 2.8 lens is massive in comparison at almost 20 lbs. so it is nowhere as convenient to carry around. Since I no longer shoot sports for a living I have decided to sell my 300mm 2.8 and replace it with the 300mm f4

    What is your impression of the focus speed? How is the build quality in your opinion?

    • @DenisRule
      @DenisRule  9 років тому +1

      As I mentioned in the video I used this lens with the D750 body and it was the fastest focusing pair that I've ever worked with, I was blown away. The build quality is very good, no shakes no ratels the lens feels solid. I think the biggest surprise was the size and weight. This is a lens you can pack in your bag and take it anywhere without worrying about it.
      I hope this helps. Oh and I now have one on order :)

    • @MichaelFoleyPhotography
      @MichaelFoleyPhotography 9 років тому

      Awesome news, thanks. This lens looks just slightly larger than my 135mm f/2 which is pretty amazing considering it's double the focal length! I hope this lens is in stock soon, I can't find it anywhere.

    The copy I had and returned was suffering a well reported issue of shutter speeds of around 1/160 ( between 1/80-1/200 effected) with VR on handheld are completely unsharp showing bad vibration. You get sharper images with the VR off. It's a Shame as I really want to this lens. Did the copy you tried suffer from this issue?

    • @DenisRule
      @DenisRule  9 років тому +1

      I was getting incredibly sharp images down to 1/20 sec hand held with the VR on.

    • @WildlifewatchingUK
      @WildlifewatchingUK 9 років тому

      1/20 is fine though the problem is from around 1/80 to 1/200 ... under 1/80 is fine and above 1/200 is fine too it's just within that range. it's a well reported issue at the moment. Perhaps it was a first batch issue and I had one from the first batch.

    • @DenisRule
      @DenisRule  9 років тому

      WildlifewatchingUK That's too bad. The one I tested was fine, incredible actually. I now have one on order for myself. Can't wait!

    hi which is better for wedding this 300mm or the 70-200 f2.8

    • @chrisjohansonphotography2629
      @chrisjohansonphotography2629 8 років тому

      70-200mm f/2.8 is definitely better for weddings, the extra stop and versatility of the zoom are a no brainer. This lens is better for times when you are in control of your subject distance

    I appreciate what you guys are trying to do, but can someone PLEASE look at the sound charts? The intro video is much louder than the dialog and the little swipes with the high pitch whine is screeching on the ears after I have to turn up the volume to hear Denis.

    I have a question: Can you please tell me how the lens behave whit aTeleconverter ,can you recommended to me Which Teleconverter use with this lens?
    The body I use Nikon D7100
    Thank you

    • @DenisRule
      @DenisRule  8 років тому

      +Shai Halevi Hi, I do not have a tele-converter at this time so I have not tested it personally. My good friend Nikon Ambassador Tony Beck, does use this lens along with a TC-1.4 with his D7200 and he loves the added flexibility and results. Just remember that adding a tc-1.4 drop the minimum aperture to f5.6 see episode 9 ua-cam.com/video/oumJ_A3UNs8/v-deo.html for more info.

    • @timpeterson3971
      @timpeterson3971 8 років тому

      +Shai Halevi. I have the 300 with the 1.4 teleconverter on a D750. It's still tack sharp, and a lightweight alternative to a bigger lens like the 200-500 or the Sigma 150-600 which I own. I noticed that with busy backgrounds I got a little bit of crazy Bokeh but in normal settings with things like trees, etc it's absolutely gorgeous.

    night city scapes = this lens sucks! nice try though

    • @DenisRule
      @DenisRule  8 років тому

      +steve Hi Steve, this lens or any other long telephoto lens for that matter would not be my choice for a city scape either. Chances are that the atmospheric haze, pollution conditions and possible heat distortions would have a very negative effect on a photo, unless that is the look you are after. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

    • @Delphisteve
      @Delphisteve 8 років тому

      Denis, I just use city scape as an example .. With that being said I wanna know for the 2000 dollar price tag I would not have to worry about strange flare showing up in my backlit subjects of any given situation.. I have seen some very disturbing results taken with this lens which exhibit the said flare and it was terrible and a deal breaker for me! I have the older 300mm f4.0 af-s and it has been a great lens, both for its incredible sharpness and for its close focus abilities.. Your portrait however shows some back lighting which came out vert pleasing and really added to the photo! Thank you for your time Denis,, God bless
