Create the bootable USB using another PC.
Concise and helpful.
Thank you for the video.
thank you for this concise tutorial.
Amazing tutorial thank you :)
thanks this was very helpful i was not aware i could use memtest86 as i put one ram stick in at a time. i see them saying check each one at a time but that didn't answer the question of what am i looking for each time i turn on the pc with the one ram. instead of it being that if it turns on then the ram is good I don't think it is that simple is it. so thanks for adding the use of the test as a way to confirm if ram is bad.
very helpful thank you very much for such lovely guide! Especially for mentioning the lifetime warrancies
Many thanks for the video!
Thank u.... this is a great video.. really helpful !!!!
You really helped me out, thank you
great video, i'll try mine to see if they are the problem
Excellent tutorial, thank you!
Thank you so much i can finally use my computer normally
When i saw the screen at 0:20 i got heart attack and im almost not overexaggerating.
same here, the "heart attack"
Agreed
Blue screens are not even that bad, it's just annoying.
you saved my life bro
Thanks to this guide I found out one of my ram stick was faulty and not the slot. thank you so much for this video :D
I read your comment, and it got me wondering since I am planning to use this test myself, if my RAM slot is faulty instead of one of my RAM sticks, then will the fault show up on Memtest or not ?
@@Omkar529yes it will. I found out because I had two ram sticks and two slots. I tested each ram stick in each slot. My second stick was faulty. You can figure it out once you have done enough tests
@@unironic5715 Thank you, that is a relief since I won't have to worry about it seperately.
@@unironic5715 Another small thing I wanted to ask if it's okay, I have 2 RAM sticks & 2 RAM slots, so if I tested RAM #1 in slot #1 & RAM #2 in slot #2 and got 0 errors in both, then technically that should clear all the 4 things, no ? Or should I test both RAM sticks in both the slots each like you mentioned you did ?
@@Omkar529 if you got 0 errors, I think you have nothing to worry about actually. But just to be safe, you should test the ram one by one. I did it in this order :
Stick 1 in slot 1, stick 1 in slot 2, stick 2 in slot 1, stick 2 in slot 2
I found out that stick 2 had problems on both slot 1 and 2 while stick 1 was working perfectly
niceee one, THANK YOU
Nice LTT-reference at: 3:48
Thanks dude
Thank youu!
Having trouble with an Asus B450-F motherboard. A-2 slot is the only one working by default. Any suggestions? Thanks
Its a decent video, but what if the motherboard has a bad slot? Wouldnt both sticks show up as bad even if they werent in that case?
Thanks 🙏
Hey im doing this rn, I have one 32gb ram stick, do i change the location of the ram before I run the test?
Thank you
I'm experiencing something weird. I just built myself a 2700X + Gigabyte B450M Aorus Elite + Teamgroup dual channel (2x8) DDR4-3600. Placed the DIMMs in slots 2 and 4. Memtest86 fails at 3200MT/s and above using XMP timings. Switched the DIMMs to slots 1 and 3, got even more errors at 3200. Switched back to slots 2 and 4 and now Memtest86 passes 3200 twice already. Ok why is it suddenly running well now?? 3600 is still failing but I think it's because of the memory controller and not the DIMMs.
My test says 100% in pass and test. But below it says nothing like and pass: 0 instead of 1. Is it complete? Or should I wait?
2:50 You screwed up big time. You should test *all* the RAM *slots* because the slot OR the stick could have dirty contacts. If you test only slot 1 with all your sticks, you only learn that the slot1 is fine. You don't however, learn if the other slots are fine.
So test the RAM sticks in the slots you plan on using them, and if it passes, you're good to go. If it fails though, you need to figure out if it's failing because of dirty contacts on the slot or stick. Just move the stick to a different slot and test again. If it passes then something might be wrong with the previously tested slot. Because the stick might not be bad - perhaps the slot that holds it is dirty.
Some of my sticks were failing out of the blue, I got some rubbing alcohol and a soft bristle brush, cleaned the contacts on the board and the stick. Worked after that.
I have one 32gb ram, do i need to change location of the slot or can i leave it where its at?
Bro thank you so much. I was getting lots of errors but because of this comment I tried changing slots. Now all mem tests are passing
@sremik you just need to keep in mind, that the contact points on the stick OR the slot could just need cleaning when a test fails.
as for where to put a single stick setup, read the manual, but my GUESS is the slot closest to the CPU.
@@jiteshruch its been a year, but if you see this comment, make sure to try cleaning the original slots because you will get significantly better memory performance if you have them in the optimal positions according to what is indicated in your motherboard's manual
@@milesmartig5603 thanks
How much time it will take for checking 2gb ddr2 ramstick on memtest default option on core2duo processor. (Approx time is ok) ?
3:12 "if it is bad" before that, clean the stick and the slot first with more than just a can of air before calling it a bad stick.
Bro can you help me please?
I am testing my rams using the above method, but I'm wondering how do I determine whether my ram is the problem or my slots have gone bad?
What if i only get hammer errors on my ram sticks? I have 4x8 so 32gb in total i run all 4 of them in memtest and a full pass i get no errors until i get to the hammer test are my sticks faulty?
thanks!
ok well at least one of those sticks are now broken he dropped it right at the end :P
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA DIDNT NOTOCE THAT
@@kevinso1879 ok, pull your ram out and throw it about for a while and let us know... it can damage it... anything in the world dropped enough will be damaged... xD
@@kevinso1879 Love how you say it "Should be fine" xD
@@AphoniaMute There's a difference between dropping your ram once accidentally and constantly throwing it around, trying to damage it. Obviously the latter is worse. Ram has no moving parts, it's not like dropping a gpu or hard drive.
I've had many memory modules that tested perfectly under memtest86 after *hours* of testing that would fail almost instantly under a large memory intensive 64 bit application. Dinosaur utility.
if one of the ram sticks is bad does it cause micro stutters in game ?????? cuz this is what is happening to me , i don't have blue screen or any of what you said i only have lag in all games ??????????????
am frequently getting unarc.dll and isdone.dll checksum error 12 errors while installing games my old harddisk also got this issue and this is new one and a new clean copy of win 10 but still get this error while installing games is it the ram sticks gone bad am using 2 x 4 gb adata ram and its 8 years old
I have that corsair vengeance 3200 like in the video I dont know whats going on. IDK if its the bois upgrade, video card upgrade, or the fresh install of windows but now this ram wont XMP to 3200 only posts at 2133..
I choose whatever boot option i want it just decides to not do anything but just boot up normally. Also there is override wich i choose the usb and still it decided to boot up normal like nothing changed
Oh hey, thanks
question if any will see this. My pc does freeze randomly. It also used to blue screen but that hasn't happened since I turned off XMP-1. With the XMP off my pc still freezes sometimes for just a moment. Then it works normally again. Sometime it shows me a message saying that my GPU failed. I tested a different GPU and it had the same issue. I googled a lot if my ram can cause my gpu to fail and a lot of ppl said that it can. So I do think it is my ram but I am not sure for 100%. Am gonna see if method showen in the video will find any problems. What do u think it can be if not the RAM.
It doesn't show what an error looks like in memetest86, and his version is 10 years older then the new version 9.3, so in the end, I still don't know WTF am I doing..
What if I did the windows ram tester? Is this not the same?
Sir can we diagnose no display ram in memtest86
Hello! do you think that buying used ram is safe?
My one had a kernel bsod x2 so im guessing thats to do with memory
Is prime 95 ram stress test enough?
it just goes into bios even with usb flash drive boot priority only in the boost option list WTF is going on
I'm so glad i did this and found out that corsair offers lifetime warranty on their ram lol
I have got my Usb's Size curtailed previously it was 32gb and now it is nearly 250mbs how to get the same capacity back.....Kindly Reply.
Had 'Memory Management' BSODs and the last straw was the 'Kernel Corruption'.
Sent for a motherboard replacement but it keeps happening...
Where are the HTML test results saved after the test?
You said one of them is going bad? I don't see an example of an error on one of them
What if your PC gets stuck in power saving mode shortly after doing this? My CPU passes a stress test on Ryzen Master, but when I use memtest or windows memory diagnostics it just gets stuck in power saving mode.
maybe sata cable?
ty for information gonna use it
what if you cant even get into your desktop to install the program?
Can i test them both plugin
thanks for the tutorial. the results I had was FAIL on 2 ram but PASS when testing the ram and slots individually. any advice for me? i just had my PC 2 weeks ago and I've been consistently getting BSOD since then.
If they are from the same exact box/kit, contact support, since memory bought together should work together. Also, beforehand, check if your mobo supports the total amount.
Could be the memory controller on your CPU is bad.
Same thing happening to me don't now why
Does this require xmp to be turned off?
thnx
I have 4 RAMs. Is it possible to test all 4 at once
Can you test 2 or 4 Rams at one time ?
Can someone tell me how to check ram slots ?
If i have over 2500 erros, is that bad?
Dude i ran memetest86 but it crashed. Does that mean my ram is faulty? I have one 8gb ram
does this test specific mhz or the mhz you have selected from bios, e.g. if i have docp enabled on bios, will it test on that frequency or will it test on something else.
Yes it will test the Docp mode you habe selected on the bios
My motherboard has 2 slots and I have one 8GB RAM module. My pc was getting BSOD so I tested the RAM module and got around 500 errors. So I deleted my windows and used puppylinux with a pendrive just to access the harddrive for few days. I changed the RAM module to the other slot and tested again today, there were no errors. Could it be that my motherboard is corrupted?
Miscreant Minion the slot could be bad
I installed Windows and have been using it with the altered ram slot since the day i wrote the comment above. It was working perfectly fine until few days back. Now I'm starting to get BSODs frequently, especially when trying to open softwares, games and sometimes even while trying to open 'This PC'.
@@miscreantminion9429 Per your added reply, I'd retest the chip. It sounds like it's bad.
My PC won't boot from the USB and I cannot do the test. I have followed all the steps. Please help
Dude. I thought I got the BSOD again but relieved when it is just the video.
Thinking out loud here:
Started getting the BSODs, a few times the error code is linked to faulty RAM and one error I found out was linked to GPU.
A couple of times windows crashed and went to reboot when (!!!) *I simply lifted my laptop* and also when I flip it.
So based on that I understand that somewhere there is a mechanical damage.
The question is now: where?
hard drive?
@@findenichts6697 nope. Removed two RAMs that are "extra" and things started working better. No failures from lifting and flipping laptop and no more lost files.
But I guess damage to Windows is done coz it's struggling sometimes to work properly + laptop became slower on the start (obviously. It now has 8gb ram less, lol).
@@findenichts6697 hard drive actually was my first suspect coz the laptop has a history of windows crashed and sudden deaths. And every time ssd was just fine. Not a single dead cell. Now we know who caused all those failures.
How to test without a flashdrive? Is there an alternative method? Or does an external hard drive do?
any drive that can be made into a bootable disk
Is it supposed to go to a screen that says retrieving hardware info. Please wait... and how long should it be on that if yes
Few seconds :)
I can't get the dam program to work. Bought a new USB. Extracted the files to USB. Created the image. Restarted, went into uefi bios, booted from the USB and nothing. Just flickers. Been dealing with this for days and can't get any memtest to work.
So what if I test them at the same time? Could you give an estimated time for one of 8gb? On what it depends?
bro if u do that u never know which ram is damaged
@@selahattinkoraykoray3216 Yeah makes sense. I ended up testing them separately, took like 32 min for each 8gb stick and both were perfect
What if both sticks pass through all 4 passes and you still get the blue screens sometimes?
Sounds like a CPU issue
re-install the chipset and IME drivers
is it possible that if there is a bad ram stick it could cause lag and stutter in games ??
Absolutely, not only that it will also cause bluescreen and system failures.
Just reinstall windows or use different hard drive first. You can test ram also.
MemTest86 como saber teste completo fica reiniciando e tb vou dormin e deixa ligado quando acorda a tela vai fica t parada pra eu pode ver o resultado ?
I can't test it if I can't boot....
Hi, good day!
I just want to confirm if this'll take hours to run? I have 16GB (8x2) 3200mhz TForce RAM.
Thank you!
Reboot, tap f8 to run usb drive. Test all ram at once.
Bhai mere PC me ram ki problem hai.
Bhai ram lagata hu to 2 minute chalta hai fir koi ek perticular color aata hai or PC bhi band nahi hota
Please koi batao Kya problem hai.
1-2 minute chalta hai fir koi color aajata hai please help me 😭😭🙏🙏🙏
Lol, accidentally dropping one of the sticks there at the end 🤣
thanks, except I love that the manufactures point users here when you provide hard evidence their RAM is bad.. For example my corsair vengeance set only crashes when I run it at 3200mhz which is why I bought it... thus they need memtest86 results to prove I was right... except they want a CMOS reset and default bios.. of course the ram works fine at 2133mhz, it's only when enabling XMP and running the ram at 3200mhz that will crash it, and yes the voltage is set to default 1.35v
You might have to set the timings by hand.
Xmp is often unreliable .
My last 2 systems wouldnt boot off xmp .
First was ryzen 5 2600 with msi mortar max b450m , crucial ballistix sport 16gb 8 x 2 ,3200 .
Second was a intel i5 11400f ,b560m aorus pro with crucial ballistix sport 16gb 8 x 2 , 3200.
Sometimes a bios update might help .
So true, i have this problem rn with 3600mhz. Was working fine and crashed once so i contacted support and they told me to CMOS and do a mem test. Obviously its fine at 2133mhz but i payed for 3600 and should be able to use it. Corsair support is hopeless
LOL paused at the blue screen and then lookde back at this monitor and freaked out thinking I was crashing again.
I just bought a new mb fans everything spinning but no display
Hi What does it mean when it writes for example in errors "Test: 4 addr: 4EBC9975C Expected: FEFEFEFFE Actual: FEFEFE7E CPU 6"?? I got realy many of them!
Hello did you know what does it mean?
@@aymanmoazin2279 I had a bad motherboard, there had burnt something inside on one of my Ram.. Dont know what the code means other then it shows there is failure in one of the Ram blocks or both..

3:47 XD
Now we have a RAM subject for testing 😂
X86? My PC is running in 64bit O/S, will this be still O.K to use this utility to check my rams?
It's fine
It's just a name. It can run 64 bit
Seeing this video gave me flashbacks of me doing this with this exact memory model yesterday.
Two 2x8 3600mhz C14 sticks.
first memory: 3 errors
second: 12 thousand
third and fourth: 20 thousand in under 3 minutes.
They let me RMA it lmao
Can you do this with a CD or DVD?
When you download memtest86 it gives you an option to download a CD version, or floppy or USB.
There it shows memory type 1024M but mine have 8gb, is that a error or something
u got scammed lol
@@MrFordzy Ha ha, I am playing gta 5 60fps at very high settings on 1gb ram
Lol😂
@ It's the golden gigabyte
Try new version of memtest86. For example try memtest86 v8.3 or 8.4
0:59 i dont have any drives in there
I have the same problem...
Turns out DDR5 is STILL very unstable at 128gb. All my errors disappear when I go down to 64gb, no matter what combination of sticks. Very sadge, waste of money

It took 2 hours and I got 1 error
sorry i am from indonesia.. my RAM is 20000 errors because i overclocking my ram to 3333mhz..but my xmp profiles is 2400mhz..what do you think bro.. sorry my languange is not good :D
Then your overclock is unstable.take off the overclock and just run the xmp
@@Brian-dj3ru thankyou brother..good bless
He's not wrong when he said it will take a while to test a ram stick depending on size. I have four 8gig sticks. Testing just one of those took 2hrs and 15mins 😑
My issue was that my PC kept giving me a black screen during gaming so I assumed it was my ram. Turned out my graphics card was dieing.
Hey did the memtest program change ? It doesn’t appear to look the same as his one anymore for some reason is urs like that or did I do it wrong
It did change, it's updated to v9
Skip test 13, it takes the longest and isn't as important.
I'm currently running a test on my 16GB ram stick. 2 hours 22 minutes later and I'm on 3/4 Test 10. Got another 16GB ram stick to test after.
The problem is GPU overheating try to switch GPU and try again
I tried this test, found out my RAM is fine, but not my PC constantly turns on and off, without ever booting.
might be insufficient power supply
yes the same thing happened to my amd system last time I used memtest...took me hours of switching ram sticks around and re-booting to get it straightened out. I will not use it again unless I can't boot to windows and use the built in test.
@@rubiojsph how to solver the power supply issue ? The laptop already comes with its own power supply? Any suggestions?
2:15 you didn't even show how to reach this menu..
You need to boot using the USB drive, the video he has made explaining this was linked in the card in the top right.
