The birds in Tasmania are prolific.
I will surely miss the afternoon antics of the Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoos, which are quite common here. More so than the white cockatoo.
The Green Rosellas are so lovely. We even saw an endangered swift parrot and I believe I got a pic.
The birds of prey are amazing. But generally too high to get a good photo. But look out for the Sea Eagles in the video. They were on the Arthur River on the west coast.
Tasmania is definitely the land of the Black Swan. There are hundreds of them. It is quite the spectacle as you cross the bridge at Bridgewater near Hobart. The first time we did it was a sea of Black Swans.
The Cape Barren Geese were amongst my special favourites. Such a cute grey goose with a fluro green beak. It was really good to see these lovely birds in the wild in many different places throughout Tasmania.
The Silver Gulls, and the Pacific Gulls (with their bright red lipstick) were a common feature along the coastlines. The baby Pacific Gulls are bigger than their parents and black with black lipstick. We both feel they are going through a goth stage - such gorgeous birds.
The funny category goes to the endemic Tasmanian Native Hens, locally known as Turbo Chooks. I have never heard such a cacophony in all my life. They run around like someone is in deep strife and then stop suddenly as if nothing is happening. Their little tails flicks up and down as they go.
The cute category for me goes to the Little Penguins that saunter up the beaches each evening to nest or feed their chicks. Such a tiny creature to come out of a wild ocean. We even saw them swimming in the middle of the day off Hazards Beach on the east coast, dodging the boats as they went by. It's hard for me to remember they are birds.
The Peacocks at Cataract Gorge in Launceston are everywhere. Stunning birds - I could watch them for hours and judging by the amount of photos I have, I did 😀
