St Peters Glenthompson VICTORIA
St. Peter's Glenthompson Victoria is a historic Anglican church. It holds significance as one of the oldest surviving buildings in the area, dating back to 1869.
It features traditional architectural elements typical of Anglican churches of its era, including a simple yet elegant design with stained glass windows and a bell tower. But it also features some beautiful murals on its internal walls painted in 2014 by Gareth Colliton, an artist from Warrnambool, Victoria. The people depicted in the murals are local parishioners. The Church is unlocked during daylight hours so that anyone who wishes to can pray there and/or view the Mural.

Stawell VICTORIA
Переглядів 62 години тому
Stawell, Victoria, is located in the Northern Grampians shire. It was founded in 1853 during the Victorian gold rush. The town was named after Sir William Foster Stawell, the Chief Justice of Victoria from 1857 to 1886. The town is well known for the ‘Stawell Gift’, one of Australia's oldest and richest running races. A walk around town revealed some beautiful historic buildings taking pride of...
Seppelt Underground Cellar tour Great Western VICTORIA
Переглядів 64 години тому
This tour was a stand out for us. The heritage listed underground cellars in Seppelt's Great Western Vineyard are a feature we had never seen before. There are approximately 3km of cellars under this magnificent winery that can hold 3 million bottles of wine. Originally, this site was established by the Best brothers who were butchers for the gold fields. They happened upon making wine and the ...
Alexandra Gardens Ararat VICTORIA

Alexandra Gardens takes pride of place in Ararat. We had a lovely stroll around the lake. There was a lot of bird life but in particular quite a lot of Eurasian Coots. These are the little black water birds with white beaks in the video. The gardens and ornaments were very Victorian and quite delightful. The splash of asian at the end of the gardens would be to do with the Chinese history of th...
Scenic drive Ararat Buangor Warrak VICTORIA

This circuit drive from Ararat to Buangor and then back to Ararat via Warrak was beautiful. First stop of the day was at Lar-ne-jeering (Langi Ghiran) art site in the Langi Ghiran State Forest. Langi Ghiran is a place of cultural and spiritual significance to the traditional owners, the Djab Wurrung people. Langi Ghiran is “Home of the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos” in the language of the Djab ...
Aradale Lunatic Asylum Ararat VICTORIA
Переглядів 8712 годин тому
Aradale was one of Victoria’s largest asylums operating from 1867 to 1993. The original buildings are absolute stunners. They are quite large and imposing, with the grandest presence as you come up the driveway. We did a guided tour of Aradale which took about 2 ½ hours and it was well worth it. The grounds are amazing and the guide was an absolute wealth of knowledge. It was both intriguing an...
Ararat Count Gaol / J Ward VICTORIA
Переглядів 2614 годин тому
Ararat County Gaol / J Ward Ararat VICTORIA @jabindajoey J Ward is located in Ararat Victoria and was originally a goldfields prison, Ararat County Gaol. Built in 1859, it ran as a gaol until 1887. This would have been due to the reduction in the population of Ararat caused by the gold running out. The gaol buildings were then acquired by the Lunacy Department (yes, there was such a thing) as t...
Langi Morgala Museum Ararat VICTORIA

LANGI-MORGALA MUSEUM ARARAT The name of the Museum. Langi-Morgala is derived from two Aboriginal words. Langi meaning HOME and Morgala YESTERDAY. Thus the HOME of YESTERDAY. This museum was the most amazing eclectic assortment of treasures I have seen in a town this size. It really has to be seen to be believed. We spent quite a bit of time in this treasure trove. But the other thing that catch...

Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre, Ararat VICTORIA @jabindajoey Gum San tells the story about the arduous journey that many Chinese miners took from Southern China to Robe in South Australia and then their subsequent trek across Victoria to Ararat. Ararat VICTORIA

The name "Ararat" in Victoria, Australia, has historical significance. It's named after Mount Ararat in Turkey, which is mentioned in the Bible as the place where Noah's Ark came to rest. Ararat in Victoria was proclaimed as a town on 24th October 1857. This was during the height of the Victorian gold rush when many settlements were being established in the region. Initially, gold mining drove ...

Bunjil Shelter near Stawell VICTORIA
Переглядів 8День тому
Bunjils Shelter is located in the Black Range Scenic Reserve near Stawell and this is the only rock art painting of Bunjil known. It is widely regarded as one of the most significant cultural sites in south eastern Australia. Bunjil does no harm; I think he does well. These words were spoken by John Connolly, of the Jardwadjali people a little north of here, and recorded by A.W. Howitt. In 1884...

The Pinnacle is an amazing walk. I just looked back through my photos and found that we did this walk in August 1987. It felt so familiar as I walked up to the lookout. The Pinnacle can be reached from Sundown carpark, Wonderland carpark or Halls Gap. We walked from Wonderland Carpark so we could see the Grand Canyon along the route. Sadly, the Grand Canyon walk was closed but we still spotted ...

My book "Dancing Time" is set in the Gaiety Theatre, Zeehan in the 1890s. (It's a time travel romance.) I'm writing a series of blog posts about the background to the story. You have some wonderful shots of The Gaiety in this video. May I include a link to it in the blog post on my website?

Absolutely beautiful.. Thank you for posting these images.....I look at South Sister every day from my back door..... Biggest tragedy is the do nothings at various agencies continue to deny thousands of visitors the chance to enjoy incredible panoramas due to the poor maintenance of the road to the car parking site...Shame on those involved... It's a disgrace , so is St Patricks Head pinnacle which is another iconic St Marys tourist opportunity venue.....

We did both South Sister and St Patricks Head. They are well worth the effort. We didn't let the roads bother us. But I guess we are in a 4wd and it does make a big difference, especially at South Sister.
