  • Having spent 12 months in Tasmania we have seen a lot of wildlife and some incredibly cute domestic animals. We've visited many sanctuaries and have seen a lot of wildlife in the wild.
I distinctly recall Maria Island as the land of wombats, Geeveston as our platypus heaven, Launceston's City Park as Monkey mania, and the slumbering seals under Dunalley Bridge.
Then there's the echidnas that stopped us from driving down the roads countless times. They are funny little fellows with cute faces. In Tasmania, they not only have spines but also thick fur, for obvious reasons.
The gorgeous Bennetts Wallabies and the Pademelons are everywhere in Tasmania. To a lesser extent there are Forester Kangaroos on the east coast. But we only saw them at Maria Island in the wild.
The Tasmanian Devils are increasing in the wild but the chance of seeing them is slim. But to get a photo in the wild is even more slim. We did see a lot of them in sanctuaries and there are some pretty good breeding programs being run. We also did a Devil joey encounter at Cradle Mountain. That was pretty special. They are soft like pups and just as cute. They are a very misunderstood animal and one that entered my heart the moment I saw them.
Banded Galloways, more commonly called Oreo Cows in Tasmania, were one of my favourite farm animals. But there were also the wooly bulls, as I called them, the Scottish Highland cows. They are so gorgeous.
Enjoy this video with all its Tasmanian menagerie. I had the most splendid time making it ❤️
