Love this song. This whole album True Blue really made people notice her! 5 #1 songs including this one. One of the best-selling albums of the 1980s by a female artist. “Live to Tell” is still my all time favorite song. She’s STUNNING in the video and during this era!
80s Madonna was absolute fire. So many great hits with really great songs, And La Isla Bonita is one of her best songs ever - I'm sure a lot of people will name it as their favorite one.
This one COMPLETELY CHANGED my mind about her. I had thought her previous stuff was just computer-programmed hits and a look put together by a management company, much like you see at the beginning of the " material girl" video. I was intrigued when I heard the violins at the beginning of "papa don't preach", I could tell she was getting better, but I still wasn't sold. Suddenly she had conga and Spanish guitar, and a unique sound. I suddenly took her seriously. On the next album, she has a song called " dear Jesse/ oh father" that absolutely solidified my love of her, and I was a metalhead at that time
Dear Jessie and Oh Father are two separate songs. They just segue into each other on the album. Like A Prayer is my favorite Madonna album because it's so personal and another song that I really love on this album is Promise To Try.
Like Amber, I prefer her earlier stuff of my generation. Live to Tell is an awesome track, off True Blue and is worth a listen. It’s wonderfully dark and moody.
If you're looking to sample some 21th century Madonna, you should definitely start with either 'Music' (2000), 'Don't Tell Me' (2000) or 'Hung Up' (2005). BTW, 'La Isla Bonita' remains an AMAZING song! She's performed it in concert more than almost any other song in her catalogue; considering how much she generally detests revisiting her old music, that says a lot.
Stunning is accurate. She was /is a beautiful woman. I like that the representation of the Latin culture doesn’t feel exploitative, it feels like an homage- very well done .. Great reaction
Nobody had done latin flavoured before this on this scale. Iconic hit. MORE MADONNA!!!!!!!!! Her live performances are fire. Greatest live performer in history. Express Yourself is my fav. Most expensive video ever made at the time and still ranks as third ever still I believe.
I would add Live To Tell, Express Yourself, This Used To Be My Playground, Rain, I'll Remember, Secret, Take A Bow, You'll See, Don't Cry For Me Argentina, Drowned World/Substitute For Love, Power Of Goodbye, Nothing Really Matters, American Pie, Music, Don't Tell Me, What It Feels Like For A Girl, Die Another Day, American Life, Hollywood, Nothing Fails, Love Profusion, Hung Up, Sorry, Get Together, Jump, Hey You, 4 Minutes, Give It 2 Me, Miles Away, Celebration, Revolver, Girl Gone Wild, Turn Up The Radio, Living For Love, Ghosttown and Come Alive.
This is a cool song by Madonna…An artist I bet y’all would really enjoy is Jody Watley. A couple of her MTV hits are “Looking for a New Love”, and “Don’t You Want Me”. 😎

Music is my favorite Madonna song from the 2000's. Ray of Light and Frozen from 1998 are great. She did the soundtrack from Dick Tracy in the 80's and that entire album has a delightful 80's vibe!
So glad you finally did this one! There are 5 top Madonna songs post 2000 imho. What it feels like for a girl, music, 4 minutes, hung up & my favorite- Get Together!. What a great song from Madonna. One of her best by far. Fun fact, actor, producer Benicio Del Toro is in the video as a young man. He's shown sitting on the hood of the car towards the end of the video. I agree with several others about checking out " Oh Father " very moving song.

Papa Don’t Preach is another icon hit from Madonna in the 80’s. ‘Music’ was Madonna’s last No.1 hit in the US in 2000. But internationally it was ‘Hung Up’ in 2005.
My favorite Madonna song is "Love Don't Live Here Anymore". It's one a lot of people don't think of when they think of Madonna's songs & it really showcases her voice.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but a great 2000's Madonna song is "Hung up" a late 90's song with just a BEAUTIFUL video is the song " Frozen" just a beautiful song.
"Madonna was born Madonna Louise Ciccone on August 16, 1958 in Bay City, Michigan. She was raised in Pontiac and Rochester Hills, north of Detroit. She studied ballet as a child but attended the University of Michigan on a dance scholarship, turning to modern dance and studying with famed choreographer and dancer Martha Graham. It was Graham who dubbed Madonna “Madame X,” a name she would return to later in her career. However, she dropped out after two years and moved to New York City to pursue a career as a dancer. "There she worked as a waitress then backup dancer and singer. She formed a rock band, the Breakfast Club, with boyfriend Dan Gilroy, followed by a second band, Emmy, in which she wrote songs with band co-founder Stephen Bray. "In 1982 she was signed by Sire Records and started her solo career as a singer. She released her first album, Madonna, in 1983. Her second album, Like a Virgin, was the first by a female artist to top five million sales in the United States."
I've been into Madonna's music since the spring of 1984. I have a benevolent envy of you both, you guys get to experience her music for the first time. Her music catalog is prolific and the musical styles she plays with, much like her persona, they are ever evolving. She does not repeat her sound. So much you have yet to discover. In the 2000s, she had 4 albums and eras. "Music" (2000) "American Life" (2003) "Confessions On A Dance Floor" (2005) "Hard Candy" (2008) That's only 1 quarter of her 40+ year album releases and concert tours. I really appreciate your Madonna reactions. More Please.😊🙏👍
This song came out in 86, same year as Jody Watley's big hit song 'Looking for a new love'. Top five best dance song of the 80's for sure. Definitely deserves a listen to.
You might want to check a ballad Madonna did called Live To Tell. It was the title track for the movie At Close Range, starring her ex, Sean Penn, Christopher Walken and Mary Stuart Masterson. The movie was based on a true story. The movie would also be a good one for you and J to check out.
Loved seeing your reaction to this Madonna classic! For the 2000's: "Music", "Don't Tell Me", "Die Another Day", "American Life", "Hollywood", "Hung Up", "Sorry", "Get Together", "Jump", "4 Minutes", "Give It 2 Me" and "Miles Away".
I cant believe you dont know about the Madonna of 80s and 90s when She was the most famous woman in the world, she was so great in that period!! True blue album was and IS my favourite album of Madonna.
Amber, if you like that Spanish guitar style... but want to see someone totally unexpected just killing it.... check out Roy Clark (yes, THAT Roy Clark... HEE HAW) doing "Malaguena"... you will seriously be blown away!!! The Flamenco style is amazingly difficult, and Roy played it like a BOSS!!!!!!!!!!!! Love this Madonna song... Wore out my copy of The Immaculate Collection back in the day.
When I was getting my undergraduate degree, I rented a room for couple semesters from Madonna's cousin. Saw a photograph of them when they were about 5 years old with their grandma.
Madonnas "Beautiful Stranger" from the Austin Powers soundtrack has a great video and its fun song from the 2000's, I feel like you both would get a kick out of it. Madonna also did the theme for James Bonds die another day "Die Another day" which is also great!
It's absolutely amazing what a career Madonna has had. She moved from her home in Detroit, Michigan to Queens, New York in 1979 and became a drummer, guitarist and singer in a band titled The Breakfast Club. She moved on in 1980 to form another band titled Emmy and the Emmys. She would find her first success by going solo and releasing her first album in 1983. She would go on to have many hits off of multiple albums and win numerous awards as a pop artist to become a pop icon Some other hits of Madonna's you might like to check out are: 1. Borderline 2. Like A Virgin 3. Papa Don't Preach 4. Lucky Star 5. Dress You Up 6. Live To Tell 7. Where's The Party 8. Holiday 9. Open Your Heart 10. Express Yourself So glad that the Rob Squad is keeping great music alive. Keep doing what you do. We appreciate you so much! 😊
Madonna's concerts are huge productions and always have music and artistic visuals from multiple cultures. She essentially gives her audience a cultural lesson with every show.
I was a huge Madonna fan growing up. I totally agree l, I enjoyed her early stuff was her best. Crazy for you, Into the Groove, Live To Tell, Justify My Love and one from the 2000s, Music.
For Madonna, you should do the following: Live to Tell Take a Bow Rain Open Your Heart to Me True Blue Cherish Dress You Up Deeper and Deeper Don't Tell Me Hung Up Secrets
My favorite Madonna song has always been "Holiday". It just reminds me of Summer .She has had so many hits you could pick one from a hat and always find a gem.
Jay and Amber! First, I LOVE this song. Talk about a summer vibe!!! The whole "True Blue" album is spectacular. "La Isla Bonita" was its 5th single!! As for 2000s Madonna, check out "Music", "4 Minutes" (with Justin Timberlake), and "Hung Up". All amazing!!!! OH WAIT, forgot about "Celebration" and "Jump"!
People who only know Madonna as the strange alien lifeform she has evolved into are cheating themselves if they don't learn about her from before she got like she is. She's one of two or three artists who best define 80s pop, and her 90s were nearly as productive.
80s Madonna is my fave version. There's just something about Papa Don't Preach (and the video) that makes it so unforgettable to me.
Material Girl was another good one from the 80's.
I still listen to her song Borderline.

1980’s Madonna was and still is magical. 1990s album Ray Of Light was really good songs like “Frozen” and “Power Of Goodbye”
Those two songs are my favorites and I love Ray of Light because she wrote it for her daughter.

Papa Don’t Preach is another icon hit from Madonna in the 80’s. ‘Music’ was Madonna’s last No.1 hit in the US in 2000. But internationally it was ‘Hung Up’ in 2005.
Have a listen to Live To Tell. For me it's her best song
Agreed 👍🏼
Keep up with Madonna
Her catalog is so vast and iconic
I've been into Madonna's music since the spring of 1984. I have a benevolent envy of you both, you guys get to experience her music for the first time.
Her music catalog is prolific and the musical styles she plays with, much like her persona, they are ever evolving.
She does not repeat her sound.
So much you have yet to discover.
In the 2000s, she had 4 albums and eras.
"Music" (2000)
"American Life" (2003)
"Confessions On A Dance Floor" (2005)
"Hard Candy" (2008)
That's only 1 quarter of her 40+ year album releases and concert tours.
I really appreciate your Madonna reactions.
More Please.😊🙏👍
This song came out in 86, same year as Jody Watley's big hit song 'Looking for a new love'. Top five best dance song of the 80's for sure. Definitely deserves a listen to.
According to Wikipedia "La Isla Bonita" was released as the fifth and final single from True Blue on February 25, 1987. 😘
BEIJOS DE LUZ! ESTEVÃO FERREIRA!
A great Madonna song is "I'll remember" and then you could also review the awesome movie "with honors" which the song came from.
And you’ll see
Such a versatile artist is Madonna. She sings love songs, dance songs, spanish songs, pop songs, technotronic songs, she is the best.
a good 2000s song for you to do would be either Hung Up if you want up tempo, or Ghosttown if you want a ballad.
Ghostown! Nice! 👌🏼👌🏼
My favorite I was going to suggest it...you were reading my mind
I think you would love Madonna's "Human Nature". Incredible message and a phenomenal video!
Exitazo en México, de las mejores canciones de Madonna ❤
You might want to check a ballad Madonna did called Live To Tell. It was the title track for the movie At Close Range, starring her ex, Sean Penn, Christopher Walken and Mary Stuart Masterson. The movie was based on a true story. The movie would also be a good one for you and J to check out.
Early Madonna is great. I'm a big fan of this whole album, True Blue (which was her third album) and also her first, self-titled album.
Don't forget "Love Profusion" :)
Still one of my favs from the "Queen of Pop"! This, Borderline and Like A Prayer are her best singles from the 80s.
Madonna "Celebration" and "Girls Gone Wild" excellent high energy songs from the 2000s
Madonna had a song on one of the Austin Powers Movie Soundtracks- Beautiful Stranger That song was from ‘99 I think.
When I was getting my undergraduate degree, I rented a room for couple semesters from Madonna's cousin. Saw a photograph of them when they were about 5 years old with their grandma.
Thank you for this reaction to Madonna!! Don't forget to add Alaska's own Jewel to you Female Friday playlist with her brilliant song "Foolish Games"!
Madonna has a deep catalog, but this is one of my favorites!!!!
She would go on to have many hits off of multiple albums and win numerous awards as a pop artist to become a pop icon
Some other hits of Madonna's you might like to check out are:
1. Borderline
2. Like A Virgin
3. Papa Don't Preach
4. Lucky Star
5. Dress You Up
6. Live To Tell
7. Where's The Party
8. Holiday
9. Open Your Heart
10. Express Yourself
So glad that the Rob Squad is keeping great music alive. Keep doing what you do. We appreciate you so much! 😊
Papa Don't preach, Open your heart, Who's that girl, Burning up, Borderline, Holiday, Live to tell, Lucky star is another jams you should check.
This has always been my favorite Madonna song! A song that takes you away somewhere. And that classical guitar!
Madonna's concerts are huge productions and always have music and artistic visuals from multiple cultures. She essentially gives her audience a cultural lesson with every show.
Going to my first Madonna concert soon. Super excited 😊
A satanist lesson these days.
@@Faltor895 uh..what?

@@Spiderific I think he meant she's a vile creature and he's right.
The Queen of Pop.
I was a huge Madonna fan growing up. I totally agree l, I enjoyed her early stuff was her best. Crazy for you, Into the Groove, Live To Tell, Justify My Love and one from the 2000s, Music.
They already did Crazy For You and Into The Groove.
@@dalee72 thanks. I’ll be sure to look for those.
For Madonna, you should do the following:
Live to Tell
Take a Bow
Rain
Open Your Heart to Me
True Blue
Cherish
Dress You Up
Deeper and Deeper
Don't Tell Me
Hung Up
Secrets
My favorite Madonna song has always been "Holiday". It just reminds me of Summer .She has had so many hits you could pick one from a hat and always find a gem.
That was one of her first big hits.
Almost all of Madonna's hits have very infectious dance beats, but the one that is different and beautiful is "Live to Tell".
'Give It To Me' ...LIVE ! A modern unstoppable Madonna!
People who only know Madonna as the strange alien lifeform she has evolved into are cheating themselves if they don't learn about her from before she got like she is. She's one of two or three artists who best define 80s pop, and her 90s were nearly as productive.
Im huge madonna fan of 40 years and this is my favorite song of hers #longlivethequeen ❤
Definitely one of her best songs! The Latin influence works so very well. Check out "Like a Virgin" and "Material Girl."
