      He was her estranged husband. He broke into her residence to attack her. He looked up how to break in through the door with a crowbar. They didn't live together.
      So, I think she did leave him. He just followed.

Marriage doesn’t just come with love it comes with trust and sharing everything with that significant other. • @Noone9227

      They don’t start out not being able to stand each other. Once you get in the relationship, their true colors start to show. I had a significant other that became a nut job right after I moved in with him. It was exactly like the movie Sleeping With The Enemy. He had a fragile ego like this guy likely does. To someone like that, someone not wanting to be with them is unacceptable to them. Their identity and self-confidence is in part, if not fully, attached to the object of their affect.

    Why do people keep staying in arms REACH of the person they think will kill them

    • @AlextheHistorian
      @AlextheHistorian Рік тому

      Many different reasons. I've had family who were in such circumstances. It can be guilt that their spouse's violence is their fault, and if they're nicer to their spouse, they won't be violent anymore. There's also the guilt of leaving, maybe you feel like you're the one responsible for your spouse's wellbeing and by leaving you're the one at fault for giving up. Then there's also the fear of getting caught leaving. Maybe the spouse rarely affords you the opportunity to slip out of sight, and if you make a run for it, they might find you as you leave, or even track you down. Then there's also denial, denial that your spouse may actually go through with their words, or that the situation is really that serious...their behavior might even be mistaken by the victim to be normal, as if that's how everybody would react in the same situation. So there's a number of reasons, and sometimes the realization of how serious things were, only comes after leaving.
