My first job was food service. I already had been raised to treat people with respect. Needless to say that experience was enough to make for me to treat people extra nicely that handle my food. You never know who is on the edge.

Custom orders are an annoyance, not because of fewer ingredients, but because there is room for error more than usual since these jobs are routine-based and specific orders like these are easy to mess up if they're not the norm.
Rare orders are also a problem, for both the employee and the customer, as more often than not, these orders aren't anticipated enough to prepare for, and these recipes are easily forgotten due to their lesser frequency.
Requires them to think for a change.

Ok, I have never messed with someone's food, neither have any if my coworkers, but working in food is so terrible and honestly the amount of mental breakdowns I've had in the back is astounding.

I used to work in fast food and I can honestly say I’ve never done anything like this, like I’ve never messed with someone’s food, I’ve never seen any of my coworkers do it ether...the worst we did was talk shit about the person after they left. It’s still rude but it’s not as gross as getting someone sick.

I've known a few people who worked in fast food who would do that but never actually worked with someone who would mess with food. It usually just boiled down to shit talking in the end of the day for us as well.
I work in food service and I've never done it or seen someone do it, either. No one I've worked with is dumb enough to risk their jobs over a rude customer. It's just not worth it.

My teacher told this story about a cook messing with a customer's food, and it went horribly wrong. His friend and his girlfriend were at a diner, and the girlfriend was repeatedly sending a burger back. Finally, the cook was fed up with her, so he went out back with the party and peed on it. Unbeknownst to him, he had a UTI. When she bit in the burger, she ended up foaming at the mouth and ended up in the hospital. She pressed charges and was compensated. As for the cook, he got fired, but I'm not sure whether or not he did some time. My teacher didn't specify.

Well, how about don't be rude to anybody. I'm honestly never rude (at least as an adult) and I've come to find that if you're kind 95% of people will be kind to you. That other 5% I usually assume is having a bad day and I'll just let them be. I agree and I'm extra nice to people touching my food but really you should always try to be a good person.

1: don't be rude to employees. Don't care care if you've had a rough day its not an excuse. I've had someone come in days after a death in their family come onto my register and had to deal with my shitty register (they were super old and sometimes prices wouldn't ring up properly) and they were still calm and respectful. I can say with certainty that your day is most likely no where near as bad. Be like them. Be nice.
2: DO NOT mess with peoples food! Regardless of what the heck they do! You don't know them. You don't know their health! Someone may comes in with some existing medical condition and you add something they specifically asked to take away or you throw food on the floor they might actually get really sick. Just don't.

Completely agree. I’ve worked in fast food and had to deal with shitty customers, and never once have I fucked with what they ordered. On the other side (even before I worked in fast food), I was never rude to employees either, regardless of how shitty my day was. There is no excuse for any of this immaturity from either side, and going after both is the best way to eliminate these problems, rather than just heaping the blame on one side in particular.

Going to be honest, one time when I worked at a fast food place, this customer yelled at me and cussed at me because we didn’t have a certain item that was available so I told him sorry and when he did finally place an order. I went into the back and told my manager what had happened and they told me that if that ever happens again, go get the manager.
Yeah that advice works until one day you have that one manager who doesn't want to help you out, and they are all like, "IM NOT DEALING WITH THE CUSTOMER! DEAL WITH THEM YOURSELF!"

I work at a starbucks, and I've never messed with someone's food, nor have any of my co workers. The worst they've done is give people old espresso shots, or talk back at a rude customer. I promise, most fast food places don't want to give you ebola.

I've worked in several fast food places and the ones that you can trust are usually located near a collage in a suburban or developing town. If it is developed with no education facilities within a couple miles it starts getting dirty and has employees who don't care.

Ya, like almost 2 weeks ago, I ordered a pizza, and then I went to pick it up, and the workers weren't wearing gloves or face masks, and I was like "Uhh..."
Anyways, I asked them to remake my order, they were super nice about it, although I felt bad asking them to make it again. I was in my car when my pizza was ready, and the guy who brought it out wore a face mask.

I’ve been working at Five Guys for over a year and I could never imagine doing this to someone’s order. In fact, the better quality of service and food we get then the more likely we can get bonuses added to our checks every two weeks to which I’ve gotten over $65 added to my checks from these bonuses. Those people are just the dicks of customer service even though customers can be rude, it’s the end goal of the check 🤦🏼♀️
