51 years is a long time ago. This car was a muscle classic in it's time. I really like the original color, the green is so cool. I'm sorry but I did laugh that you accidentally dropped the pressure washer wand. We have ALL broken tools at times. That interior was a true dust bowl. Smart to wear the mask. Glad to know this beauty can be running again soon with a couple of tweaks. I do like how the vinyl seats matched the exterior so well. I agree it was bleach on those carpets, I recognize that weird brown color from spilling bleach on a carpet once. The seats that wouldn't come out is unfortunate, but you still did a great job. The bucket pour was espresso this time. Loving your work with the steamer, great results. This was great to watch and you really restored a classic, so summer will be more fun for the owner. Have a great weekend Mitch. Now off to watch the yard geek video at least once more. 💜💜💜#Mike4Mayor.

I always love seeing these old muscle cars in their original glory. That green was totally styling in the ‘70’s. Personally I love it, but then again I grew up in that era. The matching bench-style seats bring back memories. What a gem and what a transformation, Mitch!! You did a fabulous job bringing this 1973 time-capsule back to life. (Kudos for the nice retro music too).❤️

  • @CeeTheJay

My very first car was a 1973 Duster, very similar to the one in the video. Mine was also green -- but a dark, forest green, with a tiny bit of sparkle (and white pinstripes). The interior was whitish-beige vinyl. I bought it for $300 in 1990, and drove it up and down the west coast, and then across the country to New York City. I drove it daily in the city for a few years. It would have kept going if it weren't for the brakes, which were utterly shot. Young and broke, I couldn't afford to replace them. I shed a tear when they hauled her away :) Thanks for the trip down memory lane, and thanks for your channel. It's been on my "must watch" rotation for a while now.

Sounds like it'd be worth keeping a small checklist for people doing old car restorations. "can i break this bolt off if i need to get the seats out" being one of the questions... I feel like if he's restoring it, he'd be taking it out anyway, so you breaking it out wouldn't be a big deal. Also keeping some penetrating fluid for the rusty bolts could help. give them a spray before washing to let them soak in.

I inherited my grandfather's 1973 Plymouth Duster the same color exterior (except for the black on the hood) as this one. The interior was all green with black carpet. He bought it brand new in 1973. Mine had the 225 slant six. When I sold it in about 1999-2000 or so, it was in very good unrestored condition. I lived in Arizona at the time and the car had always been in Arizona. It still had the original wheels and wheel covers. I had to sell it because I needed the money and knew I would never get around to restoring it.

Given the owner a nice clean canvas for it's restoration. I hope he keeps the colour, and takes the dash and the door cards back to the original green. It would be good to see the restoration and finished item.

Great time reset on this one. Remember the Pea Green color matched the same color shag carpeting in the house. And don’t forget our harvest gold and avocado colored appliances. But go next door to check out the lava lamp in your neighbor’s house first😜

I had a 70 Duster in the early 80s. Loved it and killed it. Those kinds of cars always rusted from the road salt.

That brought back a lot of memories. When I was in highschool in the early 80's my friend had a Duster that same color and I had a red 71 Dodge Demon basically the same car.

For a car that's 50+ years old and in original condition, not bad at all Mitch. I'm sure your customer will have a fun summer cruising around in that old Plymouth.

First, I always like seeing you working on older cars. I don't mind this color or the green interior -- very unique, and something we don't see in newer cars. I think the white strips sets off the color nicely. And, as always, you did a great job. With respect to the black rubbing off the door panels, my guess is that they had been dyed black using vinyl dye. Also, I've noticed on old cars that green carpet fades to brown, and brown carpet fades to green. I'm sure the owner will be very happy with your work!

When I was just a little boy my mother had a duster like this one, same green color, 8 cylinders. I have fond memories of riding around with it. It was rusty even back then though, the floor underneath the drivers side rusted out and there was a hole there by the foot pedal. Those old cars rust out too easily, it's great to see one that will be restored, and so well cleaned before the restoration. If I ever were to ride in one again I wouldn't have it any other color but that green.

Cleaning older cars can be quite as challenging as it looks, But overall I like Plymouth, it's a good brand, I've heard that they stopped making them since the summer of 2001 back in June, Plymouth makes good cars, it's been around since 1928. However amazing job of cleaning this car Mitch and have a great weekend.

Interior bits like the dash and door panels have been dyed black. The green is the original color and it comes off pretty easy if the dye wasn't applied and sealed properly. Since it wasn't done right, even a mild cleaner will pull it off.
