I Know you're not a mechanic, but do consider buying a breaker bar for loosening those stubborn nuts or bolts. They're cheap and effective. Also a bit of WD40 does wonders. And regarding the tailgate lock, if you would have removed the seven flathead screws which hold the panel underneath the latch on the inside of the tailgate, you could have unlocked and opened it that way. Nice car either way.
I thought the same thing with the panel to unlock the tailgate also your right on the breaker bar and maybe some heat would've broken the seat bolts loose.
Honestly, if that Milwaukee couldn't touch those bolts, a breaker bar would likely snap them. He was wise to let those stay the owner's problem. Old car gremlins are a different breed...

Good job Mitch! I believe what appeared to be cacti were actually spines, which grow on the cactus. The spines can detach easily from the plant and blow away in a slight breeze. Hantavirus is a respiratory virus and is only transmitted by inhaling aerosolized virus particles from mouse droppings so as long as he's wearing an N95 mask, or higher (which he is), he's fine. Fyi, that green felt carpeting is the original indoor/outdoor carpeting from the '60s. It was popularly used on porches, patios, and miniature golf courses
Some answers about the cacti: certain cacti species can actually reproduce asexually, meaning they don't need a flower or pollinator to reproduce. As for the lack of soil, that's not a problem either! Cacti can grow in sand or even gravel, and can't tolerate excessive moisture: making the inside of a car very desirable, combined with the heat and shelter from winter winds. The remnant gravel and sand in the car was obviously more than enough for them. The interior of BC is very dry, and they have native cactus species, so they might even have come from a cactus chunk that hitched a ride on the previous owner's clothes, or even pets if they were present. All it takes is a few decades of neglect for these little guys to thrive!
Not only do I enjoy watching the transformation, I also really like the music that accompanies the videos. It's just kind of upbeat and fun and enhances the video. Great job Mitch.
Probably put there by a packrat. We have them down here in the Tucson area. This is why most project vehicles not in the city (on a solid surface like cement or blacktop) are like my '69 F100 and my '78 F150 4x4. The hoods are left open since it's too bright.
Hey Mitch, if you’re concerned that the wasp nests might contain wasps? You can take a bowl of gasoline and cover the nest, the fumes will dislodge the nest into the gasoline and suffocate any remaining wasps!
I have to applaud her for having you back it up when she wasn't comfortable doing so. It's frustrating when people can't put their ego aside and end up damaging someone else's property. So, the car was a mess, but at least your garage was left in its original condition!
It's definitely old, dead jumping cholla like we have here in Arizona. I got stuck by one once. I had about 6 spines stuck in my finger. I couldn't get them out at first because they have a hook on the tip of the thorn that I had to just pull out. I'm very curious about those cacti in the Jeep as well. So random.
Yippee!!! Cool teaser for tomorrow's blockbuster detail. Can't wait to hear more backstory and see how well this went. I am guessing at least 12 hours of work went into this! . ❤
26:20 This is a long shot since it isn't local, but the little brown grainy stuff reminds me of rice hulls that are left behind in the rice milling process. Those things might be local grass seeds, since rice is also a grass, there's a strong similarity...
Do you have any recommendations on how to clean caked and stuck on food scraps from kids on a leather seats. Can I just use your leather cleaner or would an all purpose cleaner work better?
Mitch can you include a link of the exact damage free Tuck Tape?? I could use that to clean my vintage car before it’s restored so it doesn’t leak near the windshield like it has been. Thanks! None of the searches I have been doing turn up the same you seem to use. Thanks!
Saterdaymorning routine; sit back and relax. I will. Thanks Mitch, I appreciate your video's. It would be great if the owners make a UA-cam serie about the whole restauration. Greetings from the Netherlands.
I'm amazed at the amount of junk, trash & stuff that's left in vehicles, today & many years ago. I keep three things in my car: sun shade, insulated drink sleeves in the cup holders because I live in hot & humid Texas and a trash bag. I feel bad that you have to remove all that junk, plus dead animal bodies. A+ effort! Can't wait until next week.
Oh, and while my brain is still on curiosity mode, if you might find a carpet rake (like a fan-shaped garden rake, with plastic not metal teeth) useful to gather the larger junk items towards you, and your dustpan as a scoop - minimise the risk to your hand and back with all the reaching and will likely let you get more volume for your effort on the stuff you want to keep out of the vac. It will stir things up a little more, but you look like you had your mask on regardless 👏🤩👏
My this car is a disaster from what you're saying. But I am truly excited to see Part 2 next week, can't wait I don't if this will help but, when it comes to bolts stuck I've seen channels that restore antique toys and smaller objects (thats what I like watching) but I've seen them use oil to loosen up those bolts and screws so try that next time when u have bolts like this. Hope that helps.
I'm just curious even though it's obviously too late now but couldn't you have used the latch on the inside of the trunk area to open the door....I know you said there wasn't keys to open from outside but I guess I was confused why the latch on the inside wasn't used...
You should get a recycling can. Obviously not for stuff that is contaminated, but just dirty bottles, pieces of metal, etc. Throw them in a bucket of hot soapy water for a few hours. You could even do that while you finish the detailing, air dry and toss them in the bin. Every piece helps!!
In Arizona, there is a animal called a Pack Rat. They get the same type of the cactus you had and use it to line there nest. It keeps the snakes out of the nest. What I was wondering is where the cactus came from. They don't grow in Canada as far as I know.
I like how out in wild plants just grow ANYWHERE without any care like roughing out,... and then I have plants, that have brought the correct soil for them, water on the schedule, check on them, try give sun enough, but not to burn it down, and still I'm lucky if it will poop out one ONE sprout, or just dies like "to.ot you didn't gave me 5 sec more sun as i asked!" 😩
Those tiny needles look more like old spruce or fir needles.. depending on what part of BC the car is from. I live in BC so my guess would be spruce, but I am in northern BC where there is still quite a lot of spruce.

This is a HUGE job to do what they're intending, but would be cool to see it finished!
Hi mitch! This is the first premier i see from you! I cant wait to get on youtube tomorrow to watch this :D
Wow, Mitch! Thanks for the trip down memory lane. That ashtray on the back of the front seat! Can’t wait to see part 2. You’re the best!
what an incredible way to start the day
In case nobody said anything, raccoons, wood rats, insects, and other animals eat that cactus and might have brought it in 😉
Not only do I enjoy watching the transformation, I also really like the music that accompanies the videos.
They use cacti pieces as protection so that predators won't come into their 'nest'
I see those pine needle things in my garden a lot but I have no idea what they are
Can you show a follow up video on how this vehicle turned out with a complete restoration thanks
Cactus is from Sky goin to the desert to meet Heisenberg from Breaking Bad!😂😂
That brown or orange was more than likely done to mimic the old wood grain some of those had, I love those with the wood grain.
I'm really anticipating the results of this one. Have great weekend!!
Hey Mitch, if you’re concerned that the wasp nests might contain wasps?
You can take a bowl of gasoline and cover the nest, the fumes will dislodge the nest into the gasoline and suffocate any remaining wasps!
Finally Friday enjoy your weekend Mitch ❤❤❤ time for a good weenie roast 😊
Thanks, you too!
@@TheDetailGeek thank you 🙏
Very good 😁
5:45 is the best part the most satisfying thing ever
18 hour labor of love.
The whole time he was in the back I was thinking “pull at the metal handle on the door! Just climb in the back!”😅
This is gonna be a good one.
A breaker bar would’ve helped with the seat bolts. Also chrome sockets shouldn’t be used with impact guns.
Do you have any recommendations on how to clean caked and stuck on food scraps from kids on a leather seats. Can I just use your leather cleaner or would an all purpose cleaner work better?
Anyone else use these videos to fall asleep?
Yes
One of those map gas torches work great for heating up stuck bolts. Heat em then hit em with the impact gun.
26:20 It looks like grass seeds.
But I am truly excited to see Part 2 next week, can't wait
I don't if this will help but, when it comes to bolts stuck I've seen channels that restore antique toys and smaller objects (thats what I like watching) but I've seen them use oil to loosen up those bolts and screws so try that next time when u have bolts like this. Hope that helps.
Man, a huge undertaking 😮 Wow, great job 😊
I'm just curious even though it's obviously too late now but couldn't you have used the latch on the inside of the trunk area to open the door....I know you said there wasn't keys to open from outside but I guess I was confused why the latch on the inside wasn't used...
You should get a recycling can. Obviously not for stuff that is contaminated, but just dirty bottles, pieces of metal, etc. Throw them in a bucket of hot soapy water for a few hours. You could even do that while you finish the detailing, air dry and toss them in the bin. Every piece helps!!
Wow that's a lot of canning lids! Also happy to see you wearing a respirator, I'm pretty sure those ceiling tiles have asbestos in them!
In Arizona, there is a animal called a Pack Rat. They get the same type of the cactus you had and use it to line there nest. It keeps the snakes out of the nest. What I was wondering is where the cactus came from. They don't grow in Canada as far as I know.
😮wow. No words. If you’re terrified, I would have made her tow it right back out. LOL. I love your passion.
Do you think you can ask your customer for a follow up for that wagoneer? It would be nice to see it once fully restored.
@5:00 I was thinking of the Gulf Racing Colors..... But that does not make this car look fast.
Cool vehicle. Would love to see it after restoration. You did a great job on this one.
Every case is "the worst I've ever done." 😂
I like how out in wild plants just grow ANYWHERE without any care like roughing out,... and then I have plants, that have brought the correct soil for them, water on the schedule, check on them, try give sun enough, but not to burn it down, and still I'm lucky if it will poop out one ONE sprout, or just dies like "to.ot you didn't gave me 5 sec more sun as i asked!" 😩
Lol right?! 😂
Those tiny needles look more like old spruce or fir needles.. depending on what part of BC the car is from. I live in BC so my guess would be spruce, but I am in northern BC where there is still quite a lot of spruce.
