      I don' t get that reverse engineering idea of turning a controller into a turntable. Get a turntable if you want to play regular vinyl or timecode Vinyl and have the best of both worlds.

    I disagree with the Rane 12 point. If you want to play vinyl you get a set of turntables. If you want to play digital and vinyl you still get a set of turntables and choose to run DVS using control vinyl or phase remotes.
    This product makes more sense because the One has built in phono pre amps, like mentioned, and there’s no direct drive 7” turntable that I can think of. Closest thing might be one of those Numark V7s.

    • @ClevelandTerry
      @ClevelandTerry  3 роки тому +2

      If you are using twelves the mixer you are using will also have phono preamps so I’m not sure how there is a difference. Some people like the twelves more than the phase. It’s a choice.

    • @DjNikGnashers
      @DjNikGnashers 3 роки тому

      @@ClevelandTerry Personally, the Rane twelves would appeal to me (and many of my friends), as I had to sell all my vinyl due to lack of space.
      There are all the benefits and feeling of vinyl, without the drawbacks ie having to have a room full of vinyl, buying needles and needle skip, scratch vinyl wearing out/getting damaged.
      There are a lot of reasons why the twelves make perfect sense.

    I guess I can see how some may like this, but it's not for me (and I'm a scratcher).
    Using this device for the Rane 12 is crazy. You'd be better off using a turntable and DVS or PHASE.
    This is where Technic dropped the ball yet again. Their last model should have been a digital / analog turntable.....sending out DVS time code or use traditional vinyl and needles.

    I guess I'll be the Debbie Downer here….
    I made a very similar device many years ago to use with my Denon DN-S3700 in the same fashion. What I found was the Denon's spinning platter had horrible wow and flutter which made it difficult to mix with - scratching was fine though. This did not affect CD or MP3 play, only playing real vinyl was it a problem. I don't know if the Rane One and 12 are as bad in this area, but I know they were made with being controllers first and foremost; I can't imagine they payed too much attention to w/f numbers (Rane doesn't even show this for either product in their respective spec lists) as playing records isn't exactly their purpose.
    I certainly hope the Ranes are better in the wow and flutter department than my old 3700 and straight mixing is not an issue as it's still a cool idea. Good luck James!

      Yes but the Rane ONE is the same weight as one turntable. Some of us started on tiny controllers and don't want to carry all that stuff, but also want to use actual turntables. RP8000mk2 has turntable HID or just buttons? Sorry but I didn't understand what you said...

    • @petrfila339
      @petrfila339 3 роки тому

      @@thelabby9998 ok, the Reloop turntable doesn't have HID for Serato. It still needs the Serato vinyl but other than that it is basically the same as Rane 12 MK2. The Rane is technically a turntable without the tonearm with build in HID. So my point was why adding a tonearm to the Rane 12 if you can get the Reloop turntable and get the full package. www.reloop.com/reloop-rp-8000-mk2

    • @thelabby9998
      @thelabby9998 3 роки тому

      @@petrfila339 These are a bit wrong assumptions (excuse me and don't take it personal. I want to share thoughts so anyone could get the best info).
      In the first place RP8000 is just a turntable with some midi controls (mk2 also has some control OVER* the motor so it's like revamped C-One). Nothing else.
      *(Not shouting just trying to arise important parts)
      Twelve is a motorised HID controller (mk2 with denon-hybrid-like feature so "similar" to turntable with dvs). At that point both has integrated midi control for (let's say) EVERYTHING BUT THE VINYL and TWELVE EVEN FOR THE VINYL. That makes the whole difference (and that's why Rane didn't put a tonearm into them in the first place).
      So if twelve/One has proper "turntable behaviour" then the tonearm attachment add to these analog turntable feature. I agree about "if you are going to use tonearm/needles just grab a regular turntable" (I said it in other comment) but for the twelve more than the one (since everybody wants BizMarkie's and there isn't that product from any brand in analog turntable shape). In fact I'm not so sure about "success" of this proposal as a commercial product (also explain that in other comment) but I can see the gap is trying to fill which RP8000mk2 will not (but Phase DVS yes).
      Said that, there are some approaches to turn regular turntables into Twleves/Denon Prime but I'm also not so confident about the true commercial success of these aside its niche like the scratch attach.
      Let me ask you some questions to understand better you.
      Do you will use a RP8000mk3 standalone or full serato-controller without DVS need? Makes it sense having the tonearm include?
      I'm still wondering about tonearms and so but in the end users make the market. If people can use Rane One with iPhone but prefer to put tonearm on these... who am I to say anything?
      Thanks for answering and constructive chat.

      @@thelabby9998 no worries, I'm not any sensitive and you clearly know much more than me. I don't use any of those products. I'm about to get Denon SC6000 as my first ever players after long market observation on which direction to go - stand alone players, controllers or turntables with timecode vinyls. I still have my turntables and they don't go anywhere and I don't want to use laptop while playing so I ended up looking for standalone players. Buying Pioneer is either too expensive or a step backwards when getting second hand units as the technology is mostly 5+ years old. For the Rane vs Reloop topic - I just couldn't see much of a difference between the Reloop deck and the big Rane controller and despite understanding the differences you have mentioned I still think they are more or less on the same side to be honest. You know, from the usability point of view both still need a laptop running the software. Rane will control the software digitally, Reloop needs the timecode vinyls but that's where the differences end for me. In terms of the attachable tonearms - yes, this is a niche product but I admire his effort. It will definitely find its audience but most likely among some enthusiasts but that's all.

      @@ClevelandTerry I don't want to sound pedant but what he did (aside learning 3D cad for designing the parts) isn't rocket science... you can get a superoem tonearm a phono preamp and build it by yourself on the cheap. What I appreciate from him is how humble and grounded seem. He said about kickstarting it to see the interest and that's the point... scratch headz see a holy grail on it but there's not an hybrid product like this or advanced turntable because for analog-lovers is all done and for digital-lovers there's not a market at all... think Phase or Twelves... these are trying to avoid needles for a reason and without DVS analog turntables would had shorter life that they had been... there's a niche market and purism-lovers but that doesn't justify the numbers on brand's excel. As soon as you make the numbers you find yourself asking for more than people is willing to pay... even going just on "cost" (think about the time this dude probably expend only for learning 3D CAD... and put a value x hour on that...) then you have the regular issue with new products with high values over the previous (like 1210+DVS system being cheaper than twelves and computer) losing features like the tonearm... it doesn't makes sense. This kind of product is boutique, should be boutique priced and supporters should have that in mind and make their numbers understanding how manufacturing prototypes (which is it) goes waaaay before to asking for "right priced".
      As a background for my claims (but for anyone on diy prototyping totally unnecessary) I will say I designed the old CDX arduino midification (grandparent twelve) and I'm at the moment building my own Denon prime lowcost. So kudos to him because this is a teamwork and one man self building is hard af... and even harder when you "wonder" products no-one understand after 10 years...

    Nice. That means you don't have to carry 1200s around if you still like to play vinyl and have the flexibility to switch back and forth...

    Oddly what casued me to find this video - I was looking at making fuax or fake tonearms for my Rane One just for the aesthetics of it only. I had no idea tonearms were so diverse. I would be interested. Espcecially if they were proced about $200 for the set. Most likely however they will retial closer to $1,000 for the set I feel. InMusic/Rane doesn't seem to keen on user input or creativeness sadly. Awesome video!

    if there was a tone arm for the rane 12 i would have everything in one spot .Vinyl ,digital and no need to change out heavy decks.I have two Rane 12s mk 2s finally and a tone arm would make my set up complete..I have lots of vinyl and right now no decent turntables to play it on .Also these could be portable and a vinyl dj could take them to dj booths that had twelves or a Rane one.I came from vinyl so this is a no brainer.Do a vinyl set then take them off and do a digital set.Wax on wax off.

    I think it's very interesting, I would love to give it a try... but Terry, anyone who bought the Rane One, just like buying any other controller, must have done it with the intention on only playing digital

    I thought Biz Markie’s 7” would have made a bigger splash & Technics would have brought those to market.
