Ah fish plates. We usually call em joint bars in "jointed rail" in the US. The missing bolts probably happen from "pull aparts" where the constant cycle of mid day heat and later the cold nights literally the bolts pop and make the joint loose. Nowadays you only find them on older lines or on parts like switches. Most main lines are continously welded rail. They allow for faster speeds and eliminating the bolt issues at the cost of a huge headache if said rails are bent from heat kinks or worse...
Nice to see Sir Handel is still acting like a young engine. I never knew what fish plates were until I watched this. This was an added useful tidbit of railway trivia.
That was a great story. Sir Handel being is grumpy self from Series 4 and not thinking clearly. That accident was unexpected and I got a chuckle when the thief made a muck up of what he had said XD .

And I thought fishplates were just for model railways.
Now this is such a marvellous story! I never really knew about fishplates! And Sir Handel learnt about them the hard way!

What kind of rails do you use for the narrow gauge railway and where did you find the asset?
